Ok, so I finally bought a new home gym!
I've been using a Crossbow by Weider (similar to a bowflex) and have been unhappy with it. Trying to do squats on it sucks and so does a handful of other excersises.
I found a squat rack/cage bench with preacher curl attachment and leg attachment, 320 lbs of olympic weights with a barbell and 2 dumbell bars on Craigslist for $300. It even came with rubber flooring to put it on. I wasn't exactly ready to buy something this year but I didn't want to pass it up.
So now that I have this new gym I want change my routine a little. Before I was a doing this FBW on the Crossbow:
Tue, Thurs, Sat
Warmup on bike 4-5 minutes
Pullups
Squats
Bench
Standing row
Military Press
Alternate every other day Bicep/tricep curl
I'm thinking of changing it so I alternate squats and deads along with bicep and tricep curls and also changing the standing row to a bent over row.
Does this sound ok or does it sound like too much? I'm not trying to get huge but want good muscle definition and to lose the fat I am carrying around. I'm doing 3 sets of 8-10 reps each. I also do 30 minutes on the bike Mon, Wed, and Friday.
I worked out on it today for the first time and it feels pretty good. Now I know how much the crossbow is off on the weight! I also feel like I'm working slightly different muscles than I was before especially on squats. This feels like a total routine change so hopefully it will shock my muscles!
I read somewhere that doing a heavy, medium and light workout is better than doing a heavy workout 3 days a week. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
This morning was the first time I have ever done real squats with a barbell and I found them....quite painful! I think I am going to like them!
