Is there anyone else here with hypothyroidism who is having success? Also, I just began this journey last Sunday. I have totally changed my eating habits and incorporated exercise. To date, I have lost about 4.5 lbs. Is this a fairly normal amount to lose in the 1st week? I currently weight 147lbs and my goal weight is 125 lbs.

first week of weight loss always yeilds larger results, its mostly water weight amoung other things - thats what most gimmick diets rely on this

Thanks

Not that I am complaining, because any loss is good, but I have been working my behind off and I guess we all would enjoy bigger losses. And yes, you are right about the gimmick diets. I wondered, how do they lose for instance 8-9 lbs in the first week. I guess I am doing the right things, eating when I am hungry but eating the right foods and this is helping me not to overeat at any given meal. Drinking lots of water. Before I decided it was time to make these changes, I had coffee in the morning, for lunch a large (usually unhealthy meal) and then wouldn't eat again until around 6pm or so. Somedays I would only eat once a day.

My exercise consists of 30 minutes on the "dreadmill" 2x's a day, and I switch every five minutes between walking and jogging. Then I do bicycle crunches and switch every other day with arms and legs. But I have to do cardio and crunches once everyday. I find by splitting that hour of cardio in half to be easier.

yeah i agree about splitting. Do make sure you give yourself a day or two off a week though from it so your body can recover :)

Thanks again

I should probably add, my start weight was 188lbs. This was in 2005. As my medication was increased and ultimately I was given T3 hormone that my body wasn't making, I began to lose weight and had enough strength to actually try to lose more. I did and got down to 143lbs. Somewhere along the way back in December of 2007, my medication got "off" again and I began aching along with the chronic fatigue and before I knew it, I was back up to 154lbs. I got the medication problem straightened out for now. I have antibodies attacking the gland so I will need to increase until the gland is finally gone. It has been a very long road but I only have 22lbs to go, so I think I can do it! I have been looking at the before and after pictures (and the in-betweens help tremendously because that is where I am right now) and it is very inspiring. Maybe I will be as courageous to post my own when I start seeing some results. Although my 13.5 yr. old daughter said she could tell I am losing in my chest area. Yep, NOT the area I was targeting, lol. And congratulations on your accomplishments! Definitely an inspiration!
