Hey Everyone,

new to this site, but not to weight loss/cutting and fitness...

I use to be 200 pounds and very athletic at 6"4. I am now unfortunately at 319 pounds and thankfully I have a little bit of an excuse for the weight gain. I ripped both my rotator cuffs lifting weights about 3 years ago and I have not been able to do anything pain free until a little while ago. I refused to have surgery and I am so thankful I did, I have full range of my shoulders back.

Now I am kicking myself into full workout mode and eating healthy as my depressed eating habits are in the past along with my sore shoulders. I no longer lift extremely heavy and use bodyweight exercises. They can kick you A** just as good as weights and they are far more natural for your body to perform. I only use heavy weights for my leg workout.

Well I hope to get some inspiration and motivation from everyone here...

Cheers

I'm so happy for you that the outcome of your surgery was positive and you can resume a more active lifestyle because of it. Congratulations. :) And welcome to the forum. I'm new here too, but I felt so happy for you while reading this that I had to reply.

Hello, I am new here too! :) I'm glad that you are pain free now, and can kick your depressed eating habits.

I wanted to say though, that I hope you're not lifting extremely heavy weights for your leg workout. You said that bodyweight lifting is just as effective and more natural, so I am curious as to why you aren't doing the same thing for your legs. I only mention this because I doubt you would want a repeat of your first injury.

Sorry for that tangent! :) If you need any support in kicking the depressed eating habit, I know exactly what you're going through and am happy to help!

Thanks guys,

Well I don't have any problems with my legs and the weight is not being moved by my shoulders, so it's ok. I only use weights for one leg exercise and I am no where near my max weight as before...

Cheers

Hey,

I am glad that you have decided to join this forum. I think that it is really wise to lift lighter weights. Knowing that strength training can only partially help to lose weight, what is your plan to lose the big pounds?

Frank

Well,

For cutting weight I have always used full body strength workouts. Muscle burns calories so I always try and maintain a good amount of muscle mass. I use to ride road bikes and I will have to wait until I am lighter to get back on mine.

for now it's:

Mon/Wed/Fri = steady cardio and Full body strength circuit
Tue/Thu/Sat = HIIT stationary bike
