New Girl

Hello All,

I am new here and I need to loose about 30-40lbs. I don't have a time limit. I would love to look fabulous by the winter or spring. I am trying to go a little easy on myself. I am in no race I just want to be healthy. I have a history of Diabetes and High Blood Pressure in my family so my eating habits are under close scrutiny!!

I just started my work out life today for the umteenth time. I have done the fads and I have lost and gained the same 20lbs for the last 5 years  . I need some consistancy!

I have started out walk/running on the treadmill at the gym. Hopefully this will aide in my goals. I am also incorporating in a ton of fresh fruit and veggies. I am attempting to stay away from fried foods and I am starting off drinking about 1ltr of water per day. If anyone has any suggestions for me please let me know because I can use all the help and support that I can get.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi

Any amount of movement I feel will help to get you where you want to be health wise. I also recommend checking out stretching exercises to help with flexibility and balance and also makes everything feel relaxed.

Just my opinion hope this helps

You may want to check out the post I made in reply to becky_e. If you'd like to lose weight quickly, and 30-40 lbs isn't too terribly much (not in my experience, anyways, heh heh) so your skin will be able to handle it. Maybe try that diet. However, you sound like you have some lifestyle difficulties. I made some recommendations in a couple of recent posts. (One for Bart-something?)

Some pointers:

* Don't be too hard on yourself for having to restart. That happens to everyone. It's not easy to change your lifestyle.

*Be persistent, and try to be honest with yourself in putting in maximum effort. It will pay off eventually.

*Stay away from fad diets. Yo-yo'ing is worse for you than being overweight, both for your self-esteem and your health.

*If you're not usually active, start off slow. Walk somewhere nice, a park. A few times a week. Push yourself to do more, but don't kill yourself

*Given the history of diabetes in your family, I strongly recommend you follow the advice I gave to becky_e regarding eating habits/etc. (A numbered list on that post) Especially regarding eating complex carbohydrates derived from whole grain products. Stay away from processed carbohydrates and sugars as much as possible (progressively, mind you, baby steps)

I think I ought to make a little list of this sort of stuff, has someone already...abear, you probably know, don't you?

Most importantly, love yourself. Daily. Hourly. I kid you not. It works. And if anyone's thinking I mean something other than positive self-thoughts, you need to stop chewing ice. Heh heh heh.

Check out those other two posts. If you want to know anything, feel free to e-mail me and ask. I'm full of good advice. I've been there and done it,and I love to help others. Don't be shy. aliquisdeus@hotmail.com.

Get yourself a bicycle! My husband and I just recently bought us some! We have alot of fun! We ride up and down the road; trails and in parks! We enjoy it so much; even though its good exercise it doesn't feel like it! Try it you may like it!
