Hi perfectlyflawed,
Welcome to the forum.
I understand what you said about diets....Been there done that.
My best was atkins.....dropped 20 and gained 30 in what seemed like a few weeks.
I don't know what you are planning, ie how much weight you plan on losing....but its a lifetime of change. You cant go back to your old ways, or your going to be right back to where you are unfortunately (or worse as we found).
There isnt an easy road to weight loss. And there isn't a quick fix.
First see a doctor and let him know your plan to lose weight. He may advise you of certain obstacles you may have, or he may give you a pat in the rump and say go for it! But see a doctor first to make sure you don't do more harm than good.
Then I think You have to plan what you want to weigh, and figure out how long you want to take to get there. The longer it takes, I think the better chance of keeping that weight off. You become reprogrammed how to eat properly the longer you do it for.
I don't know how many calories you are eating, but if you have maintained that weight for a while, you will need to shave 500 calories a day off to lose one pound per week. If you have been gaining weight, you will need to shave more. Maybe thats not fast enough for you....so try to shave 1000 calories a day and see how you feel then. Then play with the numbers to get where you want. The main thing is you need to count calories. You need to keep track of everything you eat.
Then you will want to eat healthy foods, cause generally speaking...you can eat more (volume) healthy foods than junk foods and still stay within your daily calorie intake. And they will satisfy your hunger better than something like chocolate bar can.
That's my opinion...others will probably chime in if they havent already and offer more advice. If not, just ask. Theres lots of losers on here that would like nothing better than to motivate you, give you direction, and help you to your goal. I'm one of them, and to me, theres no better feeling in this world than helping someone that needs help.
Good luck. We're rootin for ya!
