Afternoon from Washington. I am not on a diet, as I don't think they work, but I was on Weight Watchers for a while, and after losing 50 lbs I did something really dumb and left. I was at 310 when I did that, and now after about 3 weeks, I am back to 363 from 380.

Though, I do have a problem. One reason I gained so much weight is a fall I took in Alaska in February. Walking with a partially torn ligament in a knee isn't any fun.

Thanks for making this forum and I hope to hear from ya soon guys.

Hi perfectlyflawed,

Welcome to the forum.

I understand what you said about diets....Been there done that.
My best was atkins.....dropped 20 and gained 30 in what seemed like a few weeks.

I don't know what you are planning, ie how much weight you plan on losing....but its a lifetime of change. You cant go back to your old ways, or your going to be right back to where you are unfortunately (or worse as we found).

There isnt an easy road to weight loss. And there isn't a quick fix.

First see a doctor and let him know your plan to lose weight. He may advise you of certain obstacles you may have, or he may give you a pat in the rump and say go for it! But see a doctor first to make sure you don't do more harm than good.

Then I think You have to plan what you want to weigh, and figure out how long you want to take to get there. The longer it takes, I think the better chance of keeping that weight off. You become reprogrammed how to eat properly the longer you do it for.

I don't know how many calories you are eating, but if you have maintained that weight for a while, you will need to shave 500 calories a day off to lose one pound per week. If you have been gaining weight, you will need to shave more. Maybe thats not fast enough for you....so try to shave 1000 calories a day and see how you feel then. Then play with the numbers to get where you want. The main thing is you need to count calories. You need to keep track of everything you eat.
Then you will want to eat healthy foods, cause generally speaking...you can eat more (volume) healthy foods than junk foods and still stay within your daily calorie intake. And they will satisfy your hunger better than something like chocolate bar can.

That's my opinion...others will probably chime in if they havent already and offer more advice. If not, just ask. Theres lots of losers on here that would like nothing better than to motivate you, give you direction, and help you to your goal. I'm one of them, and to me, theres no better feeling in this world than helping someone that needs help.

Good luck. We're rootin for ya!

Thanks for that. I'm doing a lot of walking, but its difficult with my knee the way it is. My S.O.'s mother is bringing some bikes over for him and I to use, and the impact on my knee will be dramatically reduced for it. As far as the calories, I'm doing serving sizes, no soda, maybe some Gatorade after walking. The thing I really like about WW is that it wasn't what you ate, but how much of what you ate.

Hi again PF...

I don't understand the serving sizes you are referring to. I haven't heard of it, and am sure everybody will be all over it if it works....so let us know what it's all about.

As for the Gatorade...in my opinion, stick with water. You'll save yourself money and calories.

Walking and biking are very good activities. And biking will definitely be easier on your knees.
Just don't try to justify your extra calorie intake or extra serving of whatever, with the fact that you just biked for an hour. Its not that simple.

The other thing I'm having a hard time comprehending is you mentioned all the weight you put on after your fall and couldn't walk much with your torn ligament. If I understand correctly, you gained 53 lbs back in three weeks?

Walking isnt going to make that much of an impact on your weight loss.

Please explain your weight loss so I can understand.

Thanks

No no...other way around. I was 380 lbs three weeks ago, and I'm down to 363 lbs.

Oh ... Awesome!

Dopey me cant understand plain English sometimes.

Very well done. 17 lbs in three weeks is fantastic! Just keep doing whatever it is you are doing then!

Congrats on the loss and keep up the great work!
