This summer I have been off of work. My normal job is that of a software developer. Not exactly a high activity job. I took the time off to see where I wanted to go and if I still wanted to develop software. I still do.

It also came to me that I really want to take care of myself. I've struggled my whole life with weight gain. To admit the truth is hard. It has to do more with me than any outside factors. Sure, my family has a propensity to gain weight. But, it's just another factor, not an excuse. I gain weight because I love food, especially cheeseburgers, sausage, and cheese, and I don't exercise.

The time for denial is over. It's all my fault. No one else's. I have to get it out there. It's easier to do it here because a lot of people here understand.

So, over the summer, I thought a lot about these things and finally made up my mind to so something about it. The last 2 weeks, I've been going to the YMCA every day (5 days/week) and exercising about 30-45 minutes each time, depending upon how I feel. Mostly it's the 45 minute routine. It's paying off quickly. I started at 320 pounds, two weeks ago, now at my doctor's visit this morning, I weighed in at a svelte 304.

My goals:

Thanksgiving: 290
Christmas: 275
Birthday (Feb 20th): 250
Father's Day: 220
November 1, 2007: 195

These goals are somewhat flexible, in that I am not seriously tied to the particular number, but to the progress. I would say a more serious goal is that I workout at least 22 days/month. Working out helps me to keep my food consumption in check. It's like I don't want to waste all that workout time by eating poorly. :)

To complete the picture, my blood pressure was 116/72 with a resting pulse rate of 72, both of which the doctor said were EXCELLENT! A word that I don't usually hear when I go to the doctor.

Gotta run. It's off to the YMCA for the workout!!! :)

Destination fabulous job on the weightloss thus far. Sounds like you're on the right path and doing what needs to be done to obtain your goals. I look forward to reading your future posts :)
