New and shy

Hi, all,

I've always been a heavy girl and not particularly happy with myself, but I finally got the right motivation to lose weight: My dad, who is 57, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and it would be totally curable except for the fact that his doctor can't perform the surgery he needs because he is too fat. The equipment can't get through his body mass, and if they put him on the operating table, his fat would suffocate him.

I looked at my dad, and I went, "I don't want that to be me!" I'd already had a few health problems -- high blood pressure, PCOS -- and this was the last straw.

I'm doing the Jenny Craig diet (if Kirstie can do it, so can I! haha), and training for my first Century Ride (100 miles on a bike if you don't know what that is) as well as various other types of exercise (to give my poor, sore butt a break from the bicycle seat every once in a while). I've been on this program for one month and have lost 10 pounds thus far. I'm looking to lose about 60 more.

Even though I have really supportive friends and family, I need all the help I can get for motivation, so here I am! Already, looking at some of the before-and-after pictures on here has been immensely helpful.

Affectionately yours,
~Katie

start yourself up a diary -it's a great place to get support and for us to get to know you better :) and have some fun too..

welcome to the forum - enjoy your stay and congrats on the 10 lbs so far -that's outstanding :D

I think you've taken a very brave step in deciding to lose weight and get healthy. I must confess I don't know anything about the Jenny Craig diet but the exercise sure sounds intense! 100miles on a bike! You sound like you're already somewhat motivated for that, and that's a good start cos then others can feed off your energy, and support you even more.

I agree with Mal - your first step should be to set up your own diary. That way you can track both your food and your exercise, as well as monitor the peripheral aspects - motivation (or lack thereof), disappointment, encouragement, etc. You might also want to look around the forum at first. It may seem a little daunting initially, but there's a wealth of information, particularly in the 'Harsh Truth' section of the forum.

You've lost 10lbs so far, so congratulations - the remaining 60 should follow soon enough.. :) PS: I'll check your progress :)

I have
PCOS too .. I understand where you are coming from ..
my gyn has ordered I lose as close to 285 as I can ... and write up every twenty pounds I lose.. I have already lost twenty pounds ..

You can do it! You are already doing it! That is so awesome!!

Your an inspiration.. I would never do a 100 mile bike ... the tops is thirty mile bike ride to forty ..maybe fifty ...

You go girl! You are so strong and corageous ...
keep up the good work
and start a diary ... :)
You will love it here. This is where I get my inspiration ..

Thank you for all your comments, everyone!!! I appreciate it, and it keeps me even more motivated!!! And as for the 100 miles, I can't do it all yet! I'm just training, but I can do about 20 in one day! I know I'll be able to do the 100 by Oct. 6!!!:rotflmao:

Welcome to the site!

You know, the hardest part (I think) is making the choice to be healthier and the second hardest is staying motivated to make it happen. This is a GREAT site for motivational help. We are all in this together!

Congrat's to you for being brave enough to change your life!

Hugs,
"Storm Girl"

Welcome Katie,

Like mal said, start up a diary if you haven't already. It sounds like you're already on the road to weight loss and fitness.

Thanks to Mal, I've been challenging myself to prepare for the 3-day 60 mile walk for breast cancer. The forums have been a good place for tons of inspiration, tips, tricks, and good people to talk to. I think you'll feel right at home with us in no time.
