New and Eager for Change

Hello all. I'm assuming I'm going to be part of a minority here as I am only 17 years old and about 165 pounds at 5'11. You'd think this would mean I were thin, but I'm carrying a significant amount of extra weight that I would desperately like to lose. I'll probably post some pictures at some point to help keep track of any progress I make. I am not overly concerned with losing weight, but more with turning my fat into muscle. Regardless I feel this forum will be an excellent source of motivation for this change in my life, so I hope nobody holds it against me that I am not all that heavy.

Its all good

Its all good, I can't imagine you have much flab/fat at your height and weight, but if you do, this seems like the right place. Why would people turn you down if you want to lose weight (legit weight that you need to lose anyway), if it is as you say, then there are people here to help! Read up and start posting! Good luck man, your 17 so it should be pretty dang easy.

Perhaps it is because I was muscular, and I have stopped working out so I just don't see that definition anymore. Thank-you, and I sure hope it will be easy. :)

Hey your not alone im 17 too. Im 5"6 and i weigh 150 im trying to get back to my target weight of 127 after two years of eating sweets, fast food, drinking and loafing around ive almost forgotten how to exercise, i dont have any money at the moment so if anyone has any tips for dieting on a low budget that would be fab!!

Oh yeah

I forgot to tell you SturdyWings that I think your username is hilarious, I just watched that movie a few days ago and loved it. Good luck!

Do some cardio
Do some workouts

Don't eat LOTS of crap (at 17, I'd say eating some crap is definitely ok, but try to keep it healthy for the most part)

I'm not a professional though, and I never had a fast metabolism so at 17 I was still chunky because I ate crap, haha. Unfortunately for me my Mom is a good cook!

When I was 17, I was around 185 (I'm 5' 7"). You're not fat. You might just want to tone up I take it?

Either way, good luck.

I was watching the movie while trying to decide a username, and as soon as it came up I just had to use it. :D

I take in about 2500 calories a day as I do a lot of weight lifting, but too many of those calories are chips, juice, etc. My metabolism is very slow for my age. There are many people who eat a ton more than I do, never work out, and are incredibly skinny. For me I have to finely balance my lifestyle to keep in good shape.

I'm not that fat, but I'm carrying some extra weight that I really want to get rid of. Here is a picture of me taken yesterday:

I've been looking at that picture for 9 and a half hours now, combing through every pixel with a magnifying glass and I still can't find any "extra weight".

definition

From seeing that picture it looks like you may be looking more for bigger, toner, more defined muscles, because there isn't much fat there at all. Changing your diet away from chips and crap would help. This dude I've been following on youtube is pretty insane and will help you get the definition your looking for. His name is Darin, I don't know him personally, but his videos are very informative. I can't take his advice yet because I'm still trying to lose fat, but once its time for me to put on muscle his videos will be a huge help. Here is one of his nutrition videos on whey protein, which is something you should be taking a couple times a day instead of chips and other junk foods.

Hope this helps, and I'm not sure If I can put links directly into a post, thats always an "iffy" area in most forums (in order to avoid advertisers from creating an account and just blatantly throwing their stuff on here), so I might have to take it down later.

It's there, trust me. I'd like to have a 6 pack and lose about 5-10 pounds.

In my 'prime' of weight lifting I would take protein shakes but it's just too damn expensive and I don't have a job. Thanks for the link though, I'll have to take a look at some of his videos.

First of all - congrats for being on the right track and frame of mind. best of luck and i am sure u'll be in a much better shape in time to come
