Need to lose weight after medical condition?

Hi All,

I have recently been given the 'all clear' from having a highly over active thyroid. Having been on tablets for nearly 2 years I have gained nearly 3 stone in weight mostly around my stomach and chest area. I'd like to lose this but there are a few issues......

1, I don't like fish. I've tried to eat it, tried cooking it different ways but I just can't stomach it.

2, I don't like vegetables. Again, tried to eat them but they just make me feel sick trying to eat them. I can eat things like potatoes, peppers onions, tomatoes carrots if they are cut up and cooked in with something like a chilli.

3, I'm not too clued up on carbs, protein, etc...... When people say 'you must eat less carbs' or something along those lines, they might as well be talking in a different language because I just don't know what it what?

I'm not scared of exercise and I'm quite happy to go to a gym or buy a home gym etc.

I know it's a lot to ask and I sound like a fussy eater but I have really tried to eat the above but just can keep it down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Bar,

What I would say is first DO NOT eat what you don't like. In order to create healthy eating habits that you can sustain forever, Its really important for you to consume something that you like.

So when it comes to veggies make a list of veggies that you do like and stick to those. Then ease into eating them and make it really easy. For example if you like the veggies you listed, start by commiting to eating a spoonful everyday. Then when you are ready, increase it to a few bites with each meal, then a 1/4 cup... you get the idea. Don't force it. If you like veggies in some sort of sauce then google some recipes or go on instagram for ideas. Make a batch of something and break it up into small servings that you can freeze and pull out later.

Carbs include fruit, starchy veggies like Potatoes, sweet potatoes, and corn, wheat, grains, beans, honey, sugar. To keep it simple, just start by decreasing and eliminating processed foods...anything with sugar is number one.

If you are overwelmed, it is easier to start with a few new habits first. Once you feel stronger you can start working on taking things out, which for some people is harder.

Hope this helps a little.
