Need details on HIIT

O.k. was reading through some of the threads...and I see people mention 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down. So can someone give me a detailed run down of what to do for the five min warm up, what to do for 10 min workout, and then again for the 5 min cool down. I am mainly a treadmill user, but I have been trying the elliptical machine (although it kills me after only a few minutes) and I will sometimes use the stair stepper.

Thanks y'all...

In addition to Fil's post, HIIT should be done according to your fitness level. Are you able to run for any extended length of time? If not , here's a good way to begin.

This works best on a track or on flatland running :

5 minute warm up (walking increased over 5 minutes to a brisk walk)
1 minute jogging
1 minute brisk walking
repeat up to 10 times
5 minutes cooldown (walking decreased over 5 minutes from a brisk walk)
