neck pain

Thanks for reading my post.
I have a question for anyone who can answer my problem.

When I exercise my triceps and lift dumbells behind my head, for some reason the lower back bottom of my skull starts to hurt. The part of the skull where it connects with your neck.

It's not unbareable pain, but after a while it begins to annoy you. Even more interesting is that it only hurts to my right bottom side of the skull, the left side is fine.

What could be the cause, and what can I do to prevent this????

Can you describe the pain a little more?

Does it feel like it's muscular, or deeper than that?

How is your posture when you're doing the exercises that bother you.

Oh, and if you're doing standing skull crushers with the weight behind your head...try skulls laying down, or dips. Most pain can be worked around; given that you choose the right exercises to avoid the pain.

Let me know some more details; i might have some more ideas.

If you're commited to that particular exercise, I suggest working out infront of a mirror or have someone spot you, that way you will know if the pain is comming from you doing the exercise incorrectly.

Good luck.

No.... I don't think I am doing anything wrong because as I mentioned IT IS ONLY the right side of my skull/neck that hurts.
The pain is deeper....like if someone hit you in the back of your head at the very bottom of your skull.
I have a very long neck, and during the exercises I tend to put alot of pressure on my neck...

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but it doesn't make sense that only my right side hurts, and my neck muscles don't hurt either.

When i was younger i had a muscular imbalance that caused me to tilt my head the right to compensate. The imbalance was corrected with surgery; however my neck muscles had adapted to the tilt; however slight it may be...my head still tilts to the left a bit.

The left neck muscle pulls harder then the right. When do elbow2knee for abs, the left side of my neck begins to hurt. I follow perfect form, and don't put abnormal strains on my body. Its just one of those things. I dont do elbow2knees anymore.

It could just be one of those things. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just work around the pain. Choose exercises that don't bother it.
