I am beginning my journey today. I am 5 ft 8 and weigh 197 pounds, and I am thirteen. Tomorrow I am purchasing a new scale and going to exercise for about an hour. This diary is to journal my progress and hopefully keep me motivated. I think having a scale will also really help because I will know my progress. I have maintained the same weight for the last six months, so gladly I'm not gaining, I just have to start losing!

January 2nd, 2011

Hiya, best of luck on your journey. We're all on the same journey so you'll find loads of support here. I think its really exciting that your just in your teens and starting to take control of your life, thats so excellent.

Well done on deciding to get healthy. Don't obsess on the scales. They don't always accurately show fat loss so if you have been doing what you should do and show a gain don't get stressed about it as it will probably just be water retention and will go down again in a couple of days.
You will almost definitely find that some days you 'cheat' but don't beat yourself up about it, it happens to all of us sometimes. Just get straight back to healthy eating.
Try to keep active as much as possible as that helps you to lose weight and to take your mind off eating.
Good luck and ask any questions you want and me or somebody else will come and answer you,

Thanks all. I posted what I have eaten and my exercise today so far. I'm going to do some yoga with my mom later and just do some gentle weight lifting with 10 pound weights. :)

Best of luck mate, just don't let it rule your life.
Mountain tubing sounds AWESOME!!!

It's really fun, there was lots of snow and a great view. :) It's a bit scary at first because the mountain was really steep, but after it was fun!

Breakfast:
Two Pears
Yogurt (150)

Lunch:
Poppyseed bagel with lean ham
Four snow peas
A piece of cucumber about three inches long

Snack:
Small bowl of soup (this is homemade and super low cal.)
Small slice of multigrain bread

Dinner:

Four slices of flank steak
Half a cup of white rice
Four pieces of broccoli

Snack:
Two cups of smartfood white cheddar popcorn (160)

(This is my new love! Really good and only 90 calories per cup! )
I haven't been that hungry today, kept myself busy. I ate lunch at 11:30 and it's 3:30 now So I may go have a snack. I am feel really good and my arms are a bit sore from all the weight lifting I did yesterday, but I'd rather be toned than flabby at the end of it all. :)

Exercise:
Brisk 30 minute walk with my dog
100 reps with a 10 lb weight- 50 reps each arm
50 ski jumps
30 squats (half holding weight half not holding weights)
45 mins of dancing (just dance 2 for wii)
I'll also put some pictures up tomorrow as an idea of what I look like before I've really lost much weight.

Well done, you are doing great. It's so nice to see somebody your age taking care of their health :)

Day Three Jan. 4th, 2011

First day day to school today. This was partly a good thing and partly a bad thing. Good because I'm in class and don't snack, just ate lunch, and bad because I'm sitting around and not doing anything.

Breakfast:
Homemade banana muffin
Three Pear Slices
Chai Tea

Lunch:
Cheese bagel with lean ham
Banana Muffin
Celery
Mini Orange
(I almost always bring my lunch from home, I used to sometimes buy a cookie from the cafeteria but that stops now lol )

Then I went to the library so no real after school snacking. Once I got home it was about an hour till dinner and my stomach was empty.

Snack:

Half a pack of snow peas
Piece of multigrain bread

Dinner:
One cup egg noodles with pesto
One slice of ham with orange juice and brown sugar glaze
Some broccoli and cauliflower
Nonni's Biscotti for dessert (90 cals)

Snack:
Quarter piece of mango

I want to stop eating anything after dinner, but it's sometimes hard because I eat early at like five and do a lot of my exercising after dinner. I'm working it out.
Exercise:
30 crunches
100 reps with 10 lbs weight (half each arm)
30 mins Justin Dance 2

I went to the store to buy a scale today after school, but the only scales there were over 70 dollars, and I'm looking for one under 40. I saw one in a ad at a drugstore but it's kind of far away, I guess I'll have to ask my parents. :p

I always find it much more difficult not to control my eating after dinner. It helps to keep active. Sitting down in front of the TV makes me fixate on food. As time goes on that feeling is gradually going away and I eat a lot less after dinner now.

Day 4, Jan. 5th 2011

Breakfast:
Two breakfast sausages
Two pear slices

Lunch:
Poppyseed bagel with plain cream cheese and cucumbers
Banana Muffin
Half a Banana
Apple

Snack:
Banana Muffin

Dinner:
3 tbsp mashed potatoes
One cup beef and carrot stew

Exercise:
70 minute fitness circuit in P.E. class (all different types of exercise, from sprinting and plank position to burpees and weight lifting)

150 reps with 10 lb weights (75 each hand)

20 minutes Just Dance 2

30 squats holding 10 lb weights

I didn't get to exercise much out of school today, but thankfully in gym class we had a fitness circuit that did tons of exercises, some of it was positions/stretches like the plank and downward facing dog, and kettle-weight and running and jumping rope. I did lift the 25 pound kettle weight above my head with one arm, and I wasn't able to before, some of my work is paying off :) I also had jazz band after school so no big after school snacking other than a homemade muffin. I also wasn't too hungry for dinner and I don't really like it so not an food overload today either. I'm going to do a bit more weight training and then relax for the rest of the evening. My best friend also seemed pretty excited about getting more in shape for fitness (she isn't overweight at all, but she doesn't really exercise) so I was thinking of joining the local gym with her. I love using an elliptical machine so that would be beneficial, but I'm too scared to go alone! Talk to you tomorrow guys!

Wow you are really active. Doing a really awesome job. Have fun!

Thanks! :) I never used to be active, rarely exercised but after getting scoliosis I began doing yoga and got a lot more fit and active, but I still ate too much but I think I'm getting it under control. :) I still need to get a scale though, every place I go they are sold out! :p

Have you taken your measurements? They will change much faster than the number on the scale. Steve who used to be on here always said that if we are working out right there should be some change in measurements every few weeks. So its good to know. Keep active, drink your water eat your portions and you will slim down. You are very attractive and pleasant looking so don't stress about it. You're doing lots of good things.

Nope, but I'll go check my measurements now. I still haven't bought a scale as I have been busy and I haven't gotten out to the store, but my arms and especially bicep feels larger and the muscle is definitely bigger from the weight lifting. :)
