My shoulder is still in bad shape... what do you think is wrong?

Better than waiting in line for 3 months in a socialized health care state.

not trying to turn this into a discussion, but you really should know more about socialized medicine than what your politicians tell you before you make a comment like that.

You have no clue what you're talking about.

realworksuks - as for what doctor to see ( once you figure out how you're going to pay for a visit and treatment of course ;) ), there may some advantage to simply seeing a GP who specializes in sports medicine as they may have more experience with sports related shoulder injuries than a standard general practice physician.

Then again, I assume you are allowed to pick any doctor you want to see under the U.S. system are you not ?

well, I actually have an appointment for this Wednesday.

I guess you can't just go in there and schedule an MRI, the doctor has to look at it first and then "call for it"...

So hmph, I will go in there and he will either say "just lay off it for a while"

Or he will say, "alright, you need an MRI"

And i will say, "well I am leaving town this Sunday"

and he will say "oh..... well I will send the recommendation to your hometown"

Anyway, the point is, I won't be able to get an MRI until the end of the month at the very soonest... that's the soonest a place has an opening in my hometown.

I think it's getting a bit better though. I just have been avoiding the painful exercises.

I dont think RWS is from the U.S. Maybe Im wrong.

So after Vojandov (sp?) thread about shoulder pain, did you lay off the overhead pressing? I mentioned impingement syndrome in that thread.

The "rotator cuff" muscle torn in that diagram Chillen posted was the supraspinatus, same muscle that gets f'd up during IS. The problem is because it attaches on the humerus, over the top. I really doubt you have a tear, but more a case of not listening to your body. Too many people push through shoulder pain for the sake of lifting.

In talking to one of the top trainers in the country (according Mens Fitness and myself) he doesnt do ANY overhead lifting, ever. The ROI is just not there.

I am from the U.S. actually.

Yeah I laid off the overhead pressing..

What is IS and ROI?

And if he doesn't do any overhead pressing, what does he do for shoulders mainly?

IS=impingement syndrome
ROI= a business term meaning return on investment. basically im saying that the risk to ohp isnt worth the return

I dont know what exactly he does because we didnt go into that. However the anterior deltoid isnt only used for ohp. Which would you rather have, a painful ohp or a healthy shoulder?

Actually he does. I have to wait 3 months for an appointment with the dermatologist and have to sit through 4 hour waiting rooms when all I need is a prescription for some cough medecin. I live in Canada btw.

Ic, well I definitely won't just stop working out my chest and shoulders...

My chest exercises is where I injured my shoulder, it wasn't on a shoulder press.. was probably that damn bench press, I think I am going to stay away from that thing for quite a while, just use db's.

pushups can build muscle, just do them properly and you won't be able to do 80 in one set. you can also add weight to pushups, they are a fantastic exercise!

well going to the doctor was basically a waste of time, he just told me to not do wide grip bench press and use a machine for pec fly's..........

Yep, he said it was probably just a strain...

Also squatting past 90 degrees is why my knees are sore he says (I think it's cuz I was bouncing furiously on a smithmachine)

ANYWAY, one good thing that he said is that I should strengthen my rotator cuff.

I have heard cuban rotations listed as an exercise for this but I can't find a video of that anywhere... anyone have one? Or can you describe the exercise to me?

Are there any more exercises that I can use? I wanna beef that area up..

upright row til upper arms are parallel, then externally rotate it, then press it out, reverse the movement and repeat ;) KEEP GOOD POSTURE THROUGH THE EXERCISE!

I saw a youtube video on a dumbbell workout for a shoulder injury that came up as related but can't find it now (those things are hard to find when you need them - unless you bookmark it). If I was you I would rest the shoulder a bit before doing any exercises around the shoulder.

The reason I said that is that a sign on a rotator cuff injury is the sudden in ability to hold your arms weight as your hand gets further away from the body laterally.
