My Recovery from Obesity

They say slow is better anyway so as long as you keep taking the steps you've been taking you'll be just fine. Seems like summer is a busy time for all of us. I hope you're well and that you'll keep popping in here somewhat regularly. You're a great source of motivation for all of us. :)

...aannndd I'm back....

OK, My Summer hiatus is over.

Many thanks to those of you who popped in to lend support while I was away. I'll be checking in to see how you're doing as well.

I took off two weeks and played. I ate out at restaurants, drank my beer and some tequila, had a party or two, did some ocean fishing, didn't work out, and lived like I formerly did. The end result? I had a good time.

I also felt like sh*t a lot (my brain enjoyed the deviation in my diet, but my body did NOT). I have been ready to restart healthy eating for several days now. In the end I gained... a lot. I now am down only 98 pounds, so I get the pleasure of losing a total of 100 lbs AGAIN.

Anyway. I am back at it. I don't have a plan yet, but will recommit starting today.
My goals for today were to:
1. Weigh in and use my spreadsheet
2. log in here and be honest.
3. Try to drink 1-2 gallons of water.
4. Cut the SALT
5. Reset my Eating "don't"s List (no simple carbs, processed sugars, eating after 6pm, etc)
6. Work out tonight.

1 and 2 are done.

Welcome back! The great thing about this situation is that you've done it before and you know it's possible. Can't wait to see your progress.

I hear you on the brain liking the bad foods and body hating it! I am (hopefully) back on track after 2-3 weeks of not eating the way I should and I had so many times where I thought I might ralph from the horrid food, but my brain said 'yum'!

Isn't that a strange phenomenon? My head and heart were just LOVING the binges, but my tummy, my muscles, my digestive system and everything else just LOATHED the feeling. I am definitely in a battle with some very deep-seated mental & emotional ties between me and food. ALL my cravings emanate from my heart and head... I think it's a good thing I never grew to rely on drink or drugs like I did food.

Saw a Chinese proverb on the web while procrastinating at work today:

"Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up"
I think it does apply somewhat to your current situation, you got up and started again and I do respect that.

Does this mean you get two songs from MrVee when you hit the 100 lbs lost mark again? :D

OK, yesterday was better than the previous day, so I'm going in the right direction.

Restarting the weight-loss "beast" is akin to trying to impart momentum into a 5 ton boulder by leaning against it. If I can just... get it... to move... a little...

I rode my bike 8 miles and ate "better" (maybe a 7 on a scale of 1-10). I drank water OK (maybe a 6).

Today I'll try for more.

Hi Don,

I'm new to this board and have been reading through your journey. Would you mind listing the top 15-20 foods that you eat most often. Also if you wouldn't mind keeping a food journal for the next couple days this would help me understand how you eat and make recommendations for you.

In my office I ask my patients to prove me a week-long journal so I can really figure out what I think would work for them specifically.

I would love to assist on your journey!

-Yemi

Thanks, yemi. I tend to eat accordingly:

Early Breakfast, ideally the largest meal of the day. typically a veg and egg scramble or veg omelet.

Midday Lunch, typically a large salad w. protein like chicken or albacore.

Dinner before 6pm, smallest and last meal of the day. Typically a stirfry, or baked/broiled/grilled protein, or sometimes lighter like fruit and yogurt.

I snack occasionally as needed, usually raw nuts like almonds or dried fruit or fresh fruit or veg like radishes.

------------------------------

Weighed in down 1.5 lbs today, down about 4.5 lbs since Monday's return. That's really good considering my efforts have only been about 75% so far. I think I'm ridding my body of excess water right now.
*** All of the above is how I eat when I'm doing it right - lately, that hasn't been the case.***

Howdy Don! I'm leaning on that boulder too! I finally got some relief from my back pain and I've got the Dr. okay to start running again. Let's do this! Good luck on hitting 100 again.

Thanks Q and Omega! :)

Q, eating right and exercising smart is the key. You are on the right track. Omega, I look up to your determination and persistence in staying strong. I hope in a few years I am still as focused as you.

My wife and I just had a talk... if I lose another 60 pounds (putting me at sub-300) we're going to take the kids on a Christmas break trip for a couple weeks in Hawaii. As a former resident of the isles, I really, really miss being there. I have a nice 3 bedroom house in mind that we rented a few years back... it sits on the beach and faces the sunsets. I think I could use a couple weeks of fresh fish, sunsets, boogey boarding, sea-kayaking, sunrise walks in the sand and naps in a hammock.

The bet is ON.

That's a pretty cool idea for motivation Mr Don! Keep it up and you'll smash those 60lbs in no time! :)

Steve
