My quiet journey to a glorious body

Well, I jumped on the scales today and......

**********drumroll*************

I've LOST 1.5 kilos!!!!!

:party:

I'm so happy happy happy!!! :hurray: :D :hurray: :D :hurray: :D :hurray:

This proves to me finally and unequivocally that a week of controlled eating and exercise followed by one day of relative splurging is the secret to my weight loss. Nothing else seems to work so well.

I've also noticed that on the kelp pills my spotting is not as heavy and I am having vivid dreams again, where without them I wouldn't dream at all. I'm sure the iodine is doing something for me so I'm going to continue taking it. I might even increase the dose to once every morning and night.

Didn't get up to walk today and of course, it's the most beautiful, clear day EVER. Life has a sense of humour indeed! :smilielol5:
:party:! !!! you CHAMPION YOU!!!!!

Quick update:

Last few days been eating modestly. No big fry-ups or carb fests (yay!).

Thursday - 1 hr walk in morning, 50 side-bends, 20 sit-ups, 10 lower abdominals. The ab work is the first I'm trying in a long while. Had cereal as usual but some almonds I ate gave me terrible stomach aches all day. Had some tea and milk. Spent day in bed with the shivers and feeling totally GONE. Only roused myself in the evening to have a good look at my new baby. :auto:

Friday - Sad day... :cry: Didn't feel much like eating, just watched the box/radio playing Jackson songs. Had cereal and was grumpy and snappy all day. Couldn't figure it out. Evening: Felt ravenous and ate 2 ham and cheese brevs, 2 mandarines, some lentil soup and milk. No exercise.

Today (Sat): no walk. Went to work for half the day. Had a banana for breaky, mandarine for snack, then pork with celery for lunch. Dinner: 2 slices of toast with marg & blueberry sugarfree jam (1 tsp), cocoa made with piece of bitter choc & 1/3 tsp honey, one dry low-fat wheat biscuit (for dipping... and getting rid of the skin on the top of the milk). Well, I guess this was more a late-Sat-night snack than dinner, which I didn't really feel hungry for.

I really want to let loose with my exercise but whenever I do, I overwork myself and my muscles are useless for a day or 2 afterwards. Need to do some research on how long it takes muscle to recover after exercise someone's not used to. (When I put it like this, no wonder my gut has given up on me; it's had a lot of strenuous exercise in the last 15 years and probably won't be done recovering till I'm 40!).

Eyes are shutting now so signing off. I hope everyone reaches their goals this week. Rev on! :driving:

DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) usually lasts about 2 days with the second day often being the worst. as your body gets used to the exercise DOMS will be less of a problem but will still occur after an extra heavy workout or if you change to an exercise your body is not used to. Start slow with the exercise and build up, you will get there :)

Thanks Trusylver! I gave it 3 days and we'll see how we go tomorrow. I'd been sore/weak for weeks! I think you're right and my biggest issue in the past with exercise has been that I haven't built it up gradually enough. (I've heard it's a very common error people make, from beginners to world record holders like Paula Radcliffe :coolgleamA: ).

Thanks Slim :)
Congrats yourself mate, people like you power my engine! :auto:

Well now... a brief update on the splints shin's been up to lately:

The skies have finally opened their stingy jaws and bucketed down some rain on Melbourne for a change. Yesterday and today it was a sog fest. :hurray:

I didn't go walking either day because of laziness, tiredness, late nights/morning sleepiness, rain/wind really bad for umbrella-holding, and flood-prone underpasses on the bike track (which can flood to 2.5m and sweep away whole tree logs... I don't wanna mess with that shit while trying to keep my mobile phone dry for work calls!).

So I decided to take it easy and lazy-ass my way through the work-less days. Worked Mon and Tue, nothing for the rest of the week. Apparently, not too many people are keen to get sick now that work is less certain overall. Employers have never been in a better position to exploit labour! (The bastards).

Anyway, diet has consisted pretty much of the usual things:

Breakfast: cereal with banana and prune.

Lunch: green apple

(If sleep-in, breakfast cut out and just green apple)

Dinner: Steak/fish in olive oil, spuds, and wild plants or steamed broccoli (in awlive oyl).

Snacks: either a cup of unsweetened cocoa or a tiny piece of dark choc (88%).

Exercise:
Monday - 60 min walk, 30 crunches (20 upper, 10 lower), 50 side-bends.
Wednesday - 72 min walk, 30 crunches (" " "), 50 side-bends.
Thursday - 30 crunches.
Today - will do crunches (I hope!).

Pretty bad, considering I planned to walk every day this week. Constipation 3 days. Eating Maca's today won't help matters much (10 McNuggets, large fries).

Also today, I ate a shitload of dry biscuit fingers with cocoa with 1/2 tsp of honey AFTER the 4 slices of dark rye toast slathered in generous amounts of Nuttelex margarine and blueberry conserve (thankfully no cane sugar in that, but as if it counts considering the quantities I've thrown back today... Kind of like owning a factory that belches out carbon dioxide fumes 24/7, and blaming climate change on a single farting cow).

Well, nature calls, I'm off to have a workout of a different kind. :ack2:

I know, sorry. I'm gross. :blush5:

Here, this should turn the mind to higher matters...

Party time!

Update to last post, just did 30 crunches and 5 push-ups (on knees, on bed; need to get a gym mat as room floor is wooden).

Feel a bit pathetic but when the booty finally gets moving she wants to keep track of her vibrations! Speaking of which...

:party:

It's Friday night! :cheers2:

Joke

Okay, I was going to sign off but I just had to post this...

:biggrinjester:

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was
really pissed.

She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the
driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!"

The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke
up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box
gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought
the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Bob has been missing since Friday.

Thanks Trusylver :)

I am in a good mood tonight. I've lost another half pound, my eating didn't go too off the rails during the weekend, it's been raining all weekend, and today I got to know the hitherto unexperienced joy of driving a car with a CD player in it! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! :party:

Aaa-aaaand............ The Tour de France is on !!!Yay!!!

I love le Tour!!! :jump:

Today I ate:
*apple
*steak, spuds, lettuce salad with olive oil
*unsweetened cocoa with 5 dry biscuits.

Also did 20 mins of a pre-C25K program I'm starting, where I'm sort of half-running, without the jiggling about. I don't think I want to try any actual running until the jiggly bits have largely melted away. Mustn't compromise those boobies now... But the Tour really helps in this regard because I can watch it while I'm doing the walking/gay-jogging on the spot.

Right shoulder really hurt today so I didn't attempt any push-ups. Did some vigorous dance moves last night and think I pulled something. Weight is on-track but I have to watch the refined carbs. I already felt re-addicted tonight thanks to yesterday's splurge on biscuits and jam toast. I cut it down to 5 and I'm hoping tomorrow to have only 2. This is where I trip up EVERY time. I have a feast with carbs, then the next day I get the biggest cravings! And then it takes me another 3 days to wean myself off them again! So I've decided if this is going to set me back like this each time, I will just stay away from those carbs from now on. I really don't think any amount is good for someone like me who could give Hannibal Lector a run for his money obsession-wise. Perhaps a concrete rule will work better for me because it may keep my standards higher and if I do stuff up, it may be a smaller stuff-up... :lurk5:

Yeah... I was really craving popcorn tonight....

But I'm feeling much better now, praise the Lord! I feel like dancin'! :party:

If anyone's reading this and I've commented in a thread of yours, it means you've majorly inspired me this week. So thank you! :)

YAY another tour fan :) apply some ice to that shoulder and take it easy to let it heal :)

HAHAHA, that was a good one. Clever dude!

Thanks Tru, zephyr and Blancita. I hope you guys are well. :)

This week has been a bit weird in terms of weight loss. I've been eating more refined carbs than I want and less protein (thanks to stomach aches can't have almonds anymore :( ). But I've been exercising more than ever, so I can't quite figure it out why the scale hasn't budged in 9 days... Well, maybe I can, but it's bloody frustrating. :banghead:

Anyway, food for Sun July 5th:

*Brunch: 2 slices whole rye toast, 4 tsp Nuttelex dairy-free spread, 1 tsp sucrose-free blueberry jam;
*Dinner: 3 small pieces spinach pie with fetta cheese, 4 toasts of type in Brunch ( :eek: );
*Snack: 2 tsp creamy birthday cake (typical kind, sponge & custard), glass prune juice - must have gone off as tum really complained!

Exercise:

*73 min brisk walk;
*22 upper ab crunches, 11 lower ab exs;
*5 push-ups on knees (pathetic - and elbow kept creaking/cracking... ugh);
*low impact version of C25K Week 1 Day 2 (20 min).

Yesterday's (Monday's) food:

*Brunch: oat cereal mix, 3 small pieces of spinach pie with heaps of fetta cheese (home-made pastry but white flour... :leaving: );
*Dinner: 4 fried meatballs, home-made potato chips (and felt great);
*Snack: 8 peanuts in shell, 1/2 glass prune juice, green apple.

Exercise:

*83 min brisk walk (felt I was a lot faster, but found I still only managed to cut off ONLY 3 minutes from my time since first starting over 2 months ago, doh!);
*24 upper ab crunches, 11 lower ab exercises, 5 knee push-ups;
*C25K Week 1 Day 3 (low impact).

And finally today:

Food:

*Breakfast & lunch skipped (naughty block-head! :smash: );
*Dinner: 3 meatballs, boiled wild plants/roots, 4 blueberry Nuttelex toasts, 5 dry biscuits with unsweetened cocoa (3/4 cup) made with full cream milk;
*Snack: green apple.

Exercise:

*26 upper ab crunches, 11 lower ab exs, 7 knee push-ups;
*C25K Week 2 Day 1 (low impact), 7 push-ups on edge of bed.

I could have done a lot better with the diet, as well as spending less time on the computer, although when job-hunting, it's kind of inevitable those hours will clock up quite rapidly... Hoping to get back to work soon.

The C25K was a bit more difficult today, and heart rate went up to 160-175 bpm, compared to the 140 of previous days... I'm not leaving a day in between since the version I'm doing is really low impact. As long as I can get that heart rate up over 130 I'm happy! :)

I've found reading people's weight loss success stories on this site is really encouraging me, especially where it comes to plateaus and bloating/sugar issues. For me, spinach pie is my downfall; nothing else can make me put on bloating weight so effectively, so I need to stay away from it!!!

But gosh, I'm getting hunger pangs this week... Must stay strong and keep away from that starchy heavenly food!!! :drool5:

So it's 11 weeks on from when I first began this fitness journey and I've made an interesting discovery!

After charting my progress in exercise duration per week, I've found a definite pattern, which I will try to show in an attachment. But it seems as though my body has an 'ON' week and an 'OFF' week, in terms of how much exercise I do in total. This changes how I thought of my body's functioning before: I just assumed as long as I got plenty of rest after a big walk, I could continue that way, unhindered, and keep increasing the duration over time. But now it seems I must allow for 'rest weeks' if I am to listen to what my body wants (because this pattern has emerged unconsciously on my part, just by doing however much exercise I felt like).

In fact, now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense. When I think of waves moving up and down, trees puffing in and out on time-lapse photography, and the act of breathing in and out, this pattern is totally in line with the way all of life functions!

I've decided to post this up to make myself more accountable with my goals. I want to participate in the annual Melbourne Marathon this coming October, and this time, I want to run the 5 or so kilometres, rather than walk it. With this in mind, I am planning to complete the Couch-to-5K (C25K) running program by the time October rolls around. Hopefully, injuries and laziness will stay away and I'll succeed! :angel:

So food yesterday:

*Breakfast: cereal with banana, prune and full-cream milk;
*Snack: mandarine, cup of tea with 1/3 tsp honey & full-cream milk;
*Dinner: fried pork with boiled wild plants;
*Snack: green apple.

Exercise:

*88 min. walk;
*Week 2 Day 2 of C25K program (low impact) - 20 min.;
*28 upper ab crunches, 11 lower ab crunches, 7 knee push-ups;

Food today:

*Breakfast: 3 small pieces of dark rye toast, 3tsp margarine, 1tsp sucrose-free blueberry jam;
*Snack: mandarine, cup of tea with milk and 1/3 tsp honey;
*Lunch: large white bread roll with 2 slices Bega cheese;
*Dinner: 2 small fillets of grilled chicken breast marinated in garlic oil, with steamed vegies (broccoli, carrot, peas);
*Drink: a few sips of tea made as above - gave me the cramps something awful! :ack2: Still in discomfort - don't fucking understand it!!!!! :confused: :(

Exercise:

*5-10 min walk around the house (10 laps), including 96 stairs;
*Week 2 Day 3 of C25K low impact (20 min);
*30 upper and 12 lower ab crunches;
*10 push-ups on knees.

Not the most impressive list but I've decided this time, no matter how impotent I feel, I will build it up as slowly as possible. Better to feel gay than injured! :conehead:

Triumphs today: While looking for plastic bags in the kitchen I came across a little leftover packet of Easter eggs, just 4 or 5 little ones. Without thinking about it I put them in my pocket and snuck them to my room. Then I realised this was behaviour from my past - the very sort of behaviour that got me fat!!! Still, I hid the chockies away in a drawer and went to close the curtains. That's when I caught my reflection in the mirror... and DAYUM, I looked good in it for once! I could see I was losing weight! And then I cursed my luck that I ONLY seem to see results JUST when I'm on the verge of falling right back into my old ways!!! :cuss: And then, my friends, I did something totally unlike me. I'm so proud of this now. I decided I didn't HAVE to eat the eggs. I could just give them to someone else. I could WIN this battle for once! After all, I really didn't particularly feel the need to eat them. And after seeing they were a cheap-shit brand and were probably stale anyway, this thought grew even stronger!

So I didn't eat them, I put them in my mother's room and she found them later. I was so happy....! I felt like I'd won a prize!!! :sifone:

If it wasn't for this awful stomach cramping right now I would be in such a party mood! :ack2:

Oh hang on, I just remembered... I lost another half kilo.... I guess I am in a party mood!!! :party:

No exercise done today; I can't be arsed.

Food: *1/4 green apple, some almonds & milk, bowl of lentil soup, 4 blueberry-flavoured toasts, 8 dry biscuits with cocoa.

Feeling very lethargic now; some of the biscuits were made with wine, so very flushed!.... :blush5:

Been thinking about this bullshit with the bottled water.... They say they're going to ban it in some places because, apparently (their words, not mine), the plastic takes oil to make and it's not environmentally friendly. This does not make sense. Firstly, we throw all our plastic bottles into recycling bins... so where do they go then, if new bottles need to be made all the time? And furthermore, when one steps into any Coles supermarket, one sees aisle upon aisle bulging with soft drinks like Coca Cola, Sprite, sports drinks etc... ALL sold in plastic bottles... Yet I don't hear anybody complaining about this and saying we should ban Coca Cola!!! :rant:

So excuse me if my mind has one big case of WTF?!?!?!?!? going on!

And why am I so upset? Because I LIKE my bottled water!!! So f*** off capitalist water companies that want to over-charge me for my tap water while forcing me to drink chemicals and cutting off the only supply of REAL water that I have, and leave everyone FREE to decide what to put into their bodies. Drink up Australia!!! :cheers2:

lol Shin! Rant away! I like my bottled water too. I buy it by the gallons since the tap water in my city is so nasty.

I've started a c25k program too. I do each week twice just because I don't think I'm the stereotypical person they had in mind when making the program. It's going well so far and tomorrow is my last day of week 2, then I enter into week 3 which basically doubles my running time!

Shame we're on the opposite sides of the world. I'd love to participate in that marathon with you! Who knows, maybe I'll find another one in my area that is actually 5k instead of just 2.2 miles. :)

Anyway, you're doing fantastic. Great job at keeping in tune with your body and recognizing those patterns. That definitely helps a bit with the frustration levels.
