My path to find myself

lost myself

New member
I have been on this weight loss journey of mine for a long time now, and haven't been able to reach my destination. I know all the things I should be doing (eating healthier, exercising more, etc...), but I always seem to start out really good for awhile and then slip back into old habits.

As a teenager I was an athlete and was a competitive alpine skier, when I graduated from HS and stopped skiing is when my weight gain first started. I went from being very active to pretty much not doing any sort of physical activity, add in turning 18 and partying and by the time I graduated from college 5 years later (took 2 years off after HS) I was what we'll call "chunky". I hovered in the mid 170's for a few years and decided enough was enough, I started eating healthy and going to the gym 3-4 times a week and I really enjoyed it. Over about 9 months I dropped 30 lbs and was at a healthy 145ish that was about 4 years ago. I managed to maintain that lifestyle for around a year.

So what happened? I started dating my BF and instead of going to the gym I was hanging out with him watching movies, I started eating more "junk" and before I knew it I had gained around 30lbs in a short period of time. Well we just celebrated our 3 year anniversary not long ago and that 30lbs has turned to 50lbs and I am unhappy with the way I look.

I hope that by starting this diary I will get the support and motivation I need from others to fianlly stay on track. Knowing that there are other people out there reading about my journey will hold me accountable for my actions and hopefully i can 'find myself' once again.

Hi there!

I went through the same thing. I have gained roughly that amount during my last relationship. It's just so easy to slip into a routine of staying home, eating junk, and vegging out.

It's great that you're here, and determined to get your groove on!! You're an athlete (omg, totally jealous of your alpine ski goodness!!) ... so you know you can do this! Heck, I'm sure you know how to eat healthy and what work outs to do- so all you need to do, is get yourself motivated to do them! And making the step to come on here, and engage in a supportive community, proves that you're motivated to get started on your goals :)

One little question- will your bf be working out and eating healthy with you?

I had tried many times to lose weight in my previous relationship, and I always found my partner did things to sabotage me! And it was always just easier to revert back to what I knew!

Good luck! And keep us updated :) I would love to know your progress!!
