my new super food

I have been eating the egg whites of hard boiled eggs for my mid morning and mid afternoon snack for the last two weeks and i gotta tell you guys, these things truly are incredible, one egg white has about 17 calories and about 4 grams of protein...you may not believe me when i tell you this but they will fill you up very quick, or at least curb your afternoon or mid day hunger...I don't like the yolks so I dont have any trouble not eating them, but that is where the cholesterol lives, along with some more protein. Plus they are extremely cheap in the grand scale of things, about 2 dollars a dozen, which is a whole weeks worth of snacks....i just can't seem to find anything wrong with them so I wanted to let everyone know my tactics :) delicious with a little bit of salt and/or pepper!

whooh! great idea... thanks for sharing... i cant believe there is sooo much protein in the egg whites! awesome.. lol i need to buy some chickens sooo i will have an endless supply =P

yep

yea it's amazing, I get made fun of at work because I'm always eating hard boiled eggs, lol, but they're all eating mcnuggets and cheeseburgers so...we'll see who has the last laugh :)

no answer

I dont really have a good answer for why this is in the diary section, maybe so people who are obviously commited enough to do a weight loss diary would like to know this information? I am going to have to plead ignorance as I am relatively new to forum life in general. And cool hand luke is pickled eggs isnt it? that's gross, lol

okay... you mentioned you used to have a goat guardian ... what happened??!? 0__o 2 of our pyrennees have been stolen... >_<

hmmm... a salad with boiled eggs sounds awesome.^^

lol

for some reason the term goat guardian makes me giggle...(that was meant to sound masculine) missing goats...chupacabra hangin around?

They ARE totally amazing. One of my sorority sisters is former Miss California State about 2 years ago so she's alwaysss keeping up with her nutrition. I see her eating egg whites every morning in the kitchen. I guess you can't be wrong if Ms California is doing it also. ;)

Don't mean to throw cold water on your superfood, but as great as egg whites are, they are a common allergen. Many people have a tendency to develop an allergy or sensitivity to them if they consume continually over time. This isn't always the case, but it's something to be aware of.

So it might be a good idea to have a variety of concentrated protein sources and vary them from day to day.

BTW the "pulse test" is a good way to test yourself if you suspect a food sensitivity.

hmm

sounds like we got an egg white hater on our hands...lol j/k I did read that but haven't seen anything of the sort with me anyways, I used to eat eggs all the time, whole eggs with yolk and now i just eat the whites, brilliant!

This is what I eat too in the mornings!!!!!!! Of course not the past few days because I ran out and still need to purchase them. *sad face*

But I totally agree... they are the best ever! You can't go wrong with them. My dad is the one who sold me onto the idea and I've been hooked. The protein amount you get from these are fantastic considering the calories they carry! They carry me throughout the morning very nicely are incredibly filling for their small size! =)

I'm really sleepiy right now, so sorry if this is a retarded question.... but how do you cook them? Do you cook them like hard boiled eggs and then just not eat the yolk?

i eat egg whites every day, and i found the easiest way is to boil about a dozen on a sunday, and bring a few to work. when its time to snack, you just eat the white, ditch the yolk. when i have a lot more time, i'll sift through the yolk and scramble the whites, or make into an omelette. sometimes i will even mix into xlean ground chicken or turkey, or cut up the hard boiled egg white and put in salads.
