My name is charles, and i'm a foodaholic

today

weekend went pretty well for me, I've been experimenting with new recipes and I think i finally perfected a great one. I take 4 chicken breasts and boil them until just before they're cooked through, then I take them out and let them cool off, here's where it gets a bit tedious but it's worth it...take and pull the chicken apart at the fibers to you have many small strips, put that into a skillet with a can of diced green chilies and some homemade taco seasonings (i.e. cumin and chili powder)..let it simmer for 10 minutes and then throw it into your favorite container (mine is corn tortillas warmed on a skillet) and they're absolutely delicious. I even made some relish the other day by chopping up some red onion and cilantro and putting some fresh lime juice in...damn good if anyone is looking for a new recipe. umm...went to the gym like always today, wanted to get past the 300 lb mark on my bench but sadly could only get up 290, it's still the strongest i've ever been so i'm happy :) anyways, all for now, see ya later!

another day another dollar

Today was interval training day on the hamster wheel. Did 2 miles and then took a walk for 2 minutes, came back and did high intensity (9.0 mph) for 1 minute, walked for 1 minute, ran, walk, etc..for 10 minutes...overall good workout, I seem to see weight drop faster with hiit. good stuff!

217?!? jesus christ

so I got on the scale this morning like I always do and was shocked to weigh 217 lbs...yesterday I weighed 220. I got on it 5 times and it read the same 217.4 lbs...this is about the 5th lb this week to come off so I dont know what the hell i'm doing correctly but I guess I'll just stick with this current routine until I quit seeing those gains and then switch it up again.

well, was at 219 this morning, I think yesterday was some sort of fluke, lol...i'm used to it though, not working out today as I've been at it for a long string now, gonna take fri and the rest of the weekend off till tuesday and get back on the horse. I hope everyone has a lovely memorial day. (those of us that live in the states)

hey charles, just read through your journal, and congrats on your progress! just curious to know what kind of food your eating... you seem to be doing really well with your workouts, and i would love to read more about how you keep dropping weight.

i look forward to following! hope you'll be writing a lot more

also love your wedding pic... the jumping one is super cute :D

Thanks for the kind words, I will list the basic "jist" of what I do:

I usually eat 5 times a day first and foremost, not traditional meals per sei, you'll see i guess
1 protein shake at 8 am when I get to work
1 piece of fruit with a handful of nuts usually around 10am
I go to the gym every day from 11-12
I will usually eat a piece of beef jerky or some form of small protein only meal at around 3, just to kind of get me through the day without filling hungry.
For dinner we have chicken almost exclusively every night with a vegetable..if I am still hungry after that I just drink as much water as I can stomach until it's time for bed, granted this comes along with a lot of trips to the bathroom but it's a small price for me to pay for not binging because I'm hungry. If I get a craving for something sweet, (which doesn't happen very often) I will take a tablespoon or two of half and half with come chocolate syrup, put that in my magic bullet blender guy, and it makes a nice little mousse that takes the edge off. And, that's a basic day for me. My workouts consist of cardio on M,W,F & resistance training on T,Th. When I run I will generally do 1 or 2 miles straight, depending on how i'm feeling that day, and then I will do 1 minute intervals at about 10 mph for a minute, and then walk for a minute...I do that for 15-20 mintes and I'm done. On resistance days I do Chest/Back/Shoulder on monday, and Arms and legs on thursday. Since I am in a caloric defecit at the moment I really don't have to do too much lifting, but it makes me feel good all the same.

i look forward to following! hope you'll be writing a lot more

Thanks!, I certainly hope I will be!!

also love your wedding pic... the jumping one is super cute :D
Yea, that was towards the end of our picture time, and it was after the ceremony, so I was really not enjoying those ones :) not to mention the fact that it was on August 9th, so it is about 105 degrees, lol..no fun :(

so you sprint at 10 mph about 10 times? :puke: you hardly eat much throughout the day, how do you muster the energy?? i feel like i eat way more than you, and im way shorter.... and at times i have a problem finding energy to even do moderate HIIT.

Yea, for a minute at a time...I don't know, on the energy question, I am never hungry, I find that as long as I stretch real good before and have been drinking alot of water that morning, along with a few calories, (I think I get around 200 off the protein shakes) I am fine...soo I decided to forget about the working out thing over the weekend and didnt do too bad when I got on the scale this morning so..hooray for that. all for now!

i'm awful about posting

hmm...i really need to work on my posting consistency, things with me are great right now, weight isnt moving too much in either direction, but I haven't really been "applying" myself to the extent that I should be, last month all in all was kind of an easy month, not a lot of cardio, lots of resistance training, I wanted to experiment with actual muscle building, so I ate about 500 calories over my maintenance amount and lifted real hard to just kind see what happened, my weight stayed relatively the same, around 218-220, but my body fat went down 2-3 points, so i'm about 220 with 17% body fat now, as opposed to the 220 with 20% body fat that I was before I did my month long experiment...after reading some of the stickies on here, and some of the diaries, I can see how people could get addicted to the chase, I think it was steve who said that first, but he likes to change things constantly according to his diary, i.e. build and cut phases..and I think I could definately get into that...Last week I officially started my "cut" phase again, going to take a week off of the weights and do cardio exclusively and see what happens, hoping to get down to 210 here in the next couple months, my wife says that i'm definately starting to show some lines and shrink a bit in the love handle reigion...goal is still 195-200 lbs with under 12% body fat...i'll be doing back flips when that day comes :) Also, I was reading in men's health magazine some tests that guys should be able to do, they were really freakin hard! one of them was to touch the rim of a basketball hoop, which i can do, but another one was to bench 1.5 times your weight...lmfao that would be me benching around 330...yea right, lol, anyways if anyone still reads this rag, i promise to try a bit harder to keep everyone up to date.

hell yea dude, let's do it! I did interval training today, it was brutal, 8mph for one minute on the treadmill, and then 3 mph for the next, did that for 35 minutes...thought i was going to die...ate a ham sandwich with sara lee wheat bread (45 cal per slice)...now i feel better :)

I don't know. I seem to be losing weight very slowly (which honestly is fine) but I don't see any results. I STILL have a 45 inch waist.. and I did before I started my diet.

Alot of times they say on a man, the last place that you lose weight is the stomach/waist area, you can't target fat loss, it just loses wherever it loses and you enjoy the ride :) You look in your pictures like you've lost a majority of your weight from your face, which is generally the first place that you see progress, it was with me...you'll see what I mean when this horror show is finally over with :)

So onto more business, the wife and I have decided to buy a treadmill, she is self consious about running at the gym or on the streets so i suggested this, and I have a friend in a town about 2 hours away who is looking to offload his for 125 dollars, works good and is about 2 years old so..pretty good buy i think. Last night we had chicken tacos for dinner, very good and lots of protein, and tasty even without sour cream and cheese, I made a relish of red onions, cilantro, and lime juice to put on them..i freakin love cilantro! Work sucks as usual today, not looking forward to interval training again today but I do have alot of pent up energy that i need to get rid of...last night I had a decent little spontaneous plyo workout at home, did sets of pushups and reverse crunches, and then did walking planks, which i found in a men's health magazine just to try them, seemed to give my core a decent workout...you just sit like you're in the up position of a push up, then you slowly walk your hands out until your back dips, then you walk your feet back to where you started, that's one rep. give em a shot if you're sick of normal planks :) will post again after my workout.

yea, i spose i'm lucky i get a lunch break that I can go to the YMCA over, lol...umm did 2 miles at 6mph, then did intervals 9/3 for 20 minutes...really tired, can't stop thinking about food, mainlining water.

Ok, today is going pretty well thus far, went to the gym over lunch again and had to lift, can't take cardio for 5 days straight with no weight training...on a good note, (not sure if mentioned this yet or not) my wife and I are heading to buy a treadmill tonight, so I will be able to run a few miles in the morning before my shower to get everything moving around, and then concentrate on lifting alone over lunch, I'm really excited to see what this does to my body, I've always heard that running early in the morning "jump starts" your metabolism, not sure if that is BS or not but it can't hurt! Tomorrow morning will be my first day with it so we'll see what happens!

so last night we got home around midnight with the new treadmill, set it up in the living room and tried to run on it a bit, had to pull out the tensioners a bit this morning, went for a mile run before work on it, it's shorter than the one i'm used to, but i'm sure I'll get used to it...couldn't lift this afternoon cause I forgot to bring my shoes to work with me...later

If you don't get a chance to every now and then, don't fret. If you are totally anal (sorry for such a phrase) about losing weight, it will turn into a chore.
