My Journey...

An AV's fan, eh? lol

I was a HUGE Av's fan until Partrick Roy retired. I'm a King's fan, even if they are the worst team at the moment. :) I also go every year to Vegas for frozen fury... And... the past couple of years the Kings have stomped over the Avs. :biggrinjester:

Yea, Roy retired & then Forsberg left, but whatcha gonna do? Now even Sakic is talking about retiring. Who knows. But I still love the sport and gotta stand by my team.
:coolgleamA:

Hey you are doing really well with your eating and exercise. Good for you!!

Gollie, all those calories in fat in those foods and you're right "who eats just one?" When I did my little experiment eating like I used to, I would have never thought I was eating so many calories if I hadn't have added them up and they do add up quickly if you don't watch out.

Take care and keep up the good work.

I know! It was insane to think of all that fat I used to eat. And pizza used to be a once sometimes twice a week thing. Uhhhhh.... WOW! And the thing is, I knew it was bad for me (maybe I didn't know it was THAT bad) but I just didn't seem to care. And I kept telling myself, well I'll just have pizza tonight and then tomorrow I'll start watching what I eat. Yet it never happened. The only thing I watched was the scale telling me higher and higher numbers as I shoveled piece after piece of pizza down my throat.

I feel SO MUCH BETTER now. I know that I will have Pizza Hut pizza again, but now I will be aware of the truth behind eating that slice, and I will enjoy it slowly, and then make sure to offset it with plenty of other healthy foods and exercise.

WHEW... They say ignorance is bliss, and I guess that's true cuz there is just no way I could call up and order a pizza and enjoy it the way I used to. I don't even WANT to do that. So, that, my friends... is my success story for the day!!!

Day 20

Food:
Breakfast- 1 peach, 1 Kashi trail mix granola bar
Lunch- Subway 6" turkey on wheat, w/provolone & green chile (then toasted), then I added lettuce, tomato, olives, green bell pepper & guacomole (no mustard, mayo, etc... don't need it when I add the guacomole! Yummy!)
Dinner- OH MY GOODNESS!!! I had been craving chicken curry after reading crazygirls diary so I decided to try my own healthy creation. Before when I made curry sauce it was kinda like a gravy with a flour, milk & butter base. But I did some reading and found that most currys are made with pureed onions & tomatoes, so I came home and took it from there. Here is the recipe I created. It was so amazing! AND HEALTHY!!!

1 onion
1 can "hot" rotel (diced tomatoes w/habaneros)
3 cloves garlic
fresh basil
curry powder
cumin
cayenne pepper
corriander
salt
cinnamon
brown sugar
olive oil

I sauteed the onion, rotel, garlic & basil in olive oil until the onions were soft. I added the curry powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, corriander & salt as I was sauteeing. I just kept adding different spices until I liked the taste. I added TONS of curry. (I also added water as I was sauteeing to keep the mixture from getting too thick.) Then after the onions were soft I pureed the mixture in the blender until it was smooth, and then added it back to the pan over very low heat. I added some cinnamon and just a tiny bit (probably 1/4 teaspoon) brown sugar and simmered over low heat.

I mixed some brown rice and steamed frozen peas, put some grilled chicken on top of this and poured the sauce over it. Oh my goodness! I cannot get over how amazing this was. Paul & I LOVE Indian restaurants and this was just so tasty. Much closer to the restaurant than the sauce I used to make & all vegetables with the exception of a little olive oil. REALLY GOOD! I highly recommend this recipe.

Snack/Dessert- single serving cup rice pudding, granola

Fitness:
I didn't go to the gym today. Even though it was not my rest day I decided to make it one since I had to work all day. This week I plan on trying to start running again, so tomorrow I am going to take Ace for his 1.5 mile
walk.

Fun:
I gave myself a skin "peel" facial and a mini pedicure with my home foot spa.

Feelings:
I am so excited to be trying new healthy versions of things that used to be so fattening. I know I have raved and raved about my silly dinner, but seriously... you must ALL try this recipe! YUMMY!!! It was a party in my mouth. arhh arhh arhh... LOL

Wow that does sound like a mouth party !

I just picked up a jar of curry powder today in my mad shopping spree, woo hoo.

Spices...ahh...I love to cook.

and experimenting in the kitchen is awesome!!

"Culinary Frankenstein..." Mwaaahahahah !

Its even new and fun now....using healthy foods to get the same yummy results ( without the fat-demon)

ohh man, I haven't made a good curry in a while. That one sounds delicious, I think I'll give it a try this week.

Some good ingredeants that are fun in curries, yogurt, apples, chocolate (just a tad), coconut milk, nectarines.... obviously don't use them all in one curry lol.

As for Pizza, don't ever go to Pizza Hut ever again, make your own, it tastes 1000 times better and it's not filled with greese.

I am too much of a chicken to try much of anything that is outside of my comfort zone.
I am even so anal retentive as to order the same thing when we do go out to eat. I am always afraid that I won't like what I get. :blush5:

MMM MMM!! This sounds so good!!!! I'm adding this to the list of stuff I want to try from your food journal! mmmm

What if you find something you love? I don't know, if you don't like a meal it's no big deal, you know not to cook that again, but if you find something you love I think the reward far outweighs the risk. I try something new as often as possible.

I think the big problem lies in that I have tried stuff in the past and no one liked it. Now I don't know if it was my cookin', LOL :smilielol5: or if it really was just a yucky :puke: recipe. So now I am a bit shy about it. :blush5:
At least my kids will actually eat salad now! :svengo:
And my youngest thinks broccoli is the bomb, but that is more for the fact that I told him it would make him fart! LOL :smilielol5:
So now he actually asks for broccoli all the time. Ahhh to be 5 again. :biggrinjester:

Lol, makes him fart. What a great reason to eat broccoli. So what about beans then? The ultimate in flatulance hahaha.

I love to try new recipes, also. I try to make at minimum one new recipe each week. But, believe me, I have made recipes that I have absolutely hated. I just don't ever make them again. The good thing is that both Paul and I love trying new foods, so he is up for anything I make.

Also, he likes to cook as well. And those firefighters make GOURMET meals while they are on shift. He is always bringing home a new creation... (his are scarier than mine cuz while I at least base my ideas off of recipes I find, he just goes for it... sometimes very interesting?!?)

Obstacle alert!!!

Well, I think I will do ok. But still have to write about it. I think all Sunday's will be obstacles for me, so I just need to remember to adjust the rest of the day... Today (as with every Sunday) is dinner at my in laws. Tonight I know we are grilling hamburgers. (and yes I will be having mine with cheese...)

So, I brought a salad with me (to work) for lunch. And for breakfast I ate yogurt and fruit.

Also, I know there will be some kind of yummy dessert, but I think I will be able to resist that temptation. Last week we had chocolate cake, which I did eat, but it was a birthday celebration. So, if I just eat dessert for celebrations instead of every week, I think that will be a nice treat.

If you guys have any tips on what you do when you know you will be eating something like this, please let me know. Everything helps!

Thanks...

(Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my in laws, and LOVE that the whole family goes over every week for dinner, but I know that the food will always be rich and delish, and not as healthy as possible.)

ask them before-hand to make "Your" size portions?

if they are making meat patties, aks them to make a half size one for you.....

..if you let them know you are watching your calorie intake, they can help, and Im sure they wont be put off by it.

Even with Ice cream or cake,........ask for half or less of a normal serving.

Just let them know why you ponly want half....tell them you love the food, but yo uare really working hard at this, and in order to lose weigt you need to have a calorie deficit ( they might even find the nutrition information you learned intersting, ...;) )

Also growing kids, teens, etc. almost always never say no when you offer to give them half of your burger......lol ( that was my mother's strategy when I was growing up.....I almost always ate half her food too...lol)

That's good advice, you can eat this food, just in moderation. If they are grilling veggies or something, have more of those.

Thanks! Yes, they do know that I am trying to lose weight and they are very supportive. That's what I did last week with the cake. I only had a baby piece. It's funny cuz they always ask if we want a "swine" size, "normal" size, or "baby" size serving of something. Ha Ha... Plus, last week my husband was the one serving the cake & ice cream so he knows for sure.

The good thing is that we are usually doing something crazy like playing charades or horseshoes or some other weird game. So, I always get to burn some calories. Of course, there are times when we just play cards or another board game, or just watch a movie, but that's ok!

Day 21

Food:
Breakfast- lowfat vanilla yogurt w/grapes, banana & sliced almonds
Lunch- salad w/carrots, celery, bell pepper, broccoli, olives, tomatoes & low fat feta cheese w/lime squeezed over it (instead of salad dressing), also had 1 kiwi and 1 snack size sugar free chocolate pudding
Dinner- 1 (and 1/2) hamburgers... (I know, I know!) w/cheese, guacomole & green chile, 1/2 cup of homemade mac n' cheese

Fitness:
It truly was my rest day, didn't get around to walking Ace before I had to go to work.

Fun:
We played horseshoes, then after dinner just sat around and laughed and talked.

Feelings:
I'm exhausted right now. Paul just made us each a cup of sleepy time tea, and it has totally hit me hard. He goes on shift again tomorrow morning.

Catch up with you all tomorrow! Have a great night.

Hi! Sounds like you had a really fun day! I go to my in-laws' on Sundays too( and a day or two in between...they're only 15 min. away) and it's always tough with the food...Yesterday I brought my own food and ate a Kashi frozen dinner while they were eating Ribeyes, fresh guacumole(which I did have a couple spoonfuls of), and fries....It wasn't as tough as I though it would be though because I had prepared myself ahead of time.... AND I didn't look at their plates at all! hhaha! Today though I did eat what they had and just limited my portions. These are the days we can take a small break from "diet food" and practice portion control. I think you had a great idea with keeping your breakfast and lunch low so that you could splurge a little on dinner. Glad y'all had fun!!!
