My Journey to a Healthier Me

when your knee is feeling better, it would be a good idea to do some proprioception exercises to strengthen and improve the stability in your joints so it doesn't happen as often.

I had dislocations regularly from age 10 right up to age 18 when I finally had surgery, and while my dislocations have stopped, my joints are in bad shape. My knee clicks and grinds on stairs (has now for 10 years) and on quite a few exercise machines. I have been doing the exercises my doctor gave me for before my surgery and after my surgery now for...well, since I had the surgery. Lot of physical therapy moves, stretches, that good stuff. It's part of my routine in the mornings. There's only so much the knee can handle, though. I see knee replacement surgery in my hopefully-distant future.

Sorry you've had so much trouble with your knees. I have problems too, mainly my right due to RA, but with meds I'm able to function relatively normal. I have a friend who's facing double hip replacements, she's not looking forward to it. :(

What a nightmare.

I was having severe pain last week in my side, it was so bad that I had a hard time walking around and even just sitting up. I thought maybe I’d pulled a muscle, but after a full day of being in a good deal of pain it just got worse. I tried to ignore it and went to bed, each movement caused more pain, to touch my stomach was out of the question and don’t even get me started on sneezing.

My husband insisted on taking my temperature, as I felt like I was freezing even though it was hot enough for him to want all of the windows open, walking around with just a pair of shorts on. Sure enough, fever, high one at that. He called one of the doctors that makes house visits even late at night and before I knew it we were off to the hospital with a “99% sure” from the doctor that it was appendicitis, and a bad case.

The surgery was a success, but the doctor told me—after the fact—that he was almost certain my appendix would rupture during surgery. Yikes.

Anyway, I’m home now and hopefully done with hospitals for a while. I’m completely drained right now, though, so I’m going to go to bed again.

How scary! I'm glad everything is ok now. Take time to heal and get plenty of rest before attempting to come back to exercise. No need to rush back into it and possibly re-injuring yourself. Take care!

Crikey! So glad it went well. When my friend and I were staff nurses (qualified, and sort of interns) she thought she had wind... then she collapsed... ruptured appendix. Our other friend was the scrub nurse and she said when they opened Rosie up it was, I quote: 'Like looking into the jaws of hell' All that was over 40 years ago, she is as fit as flea and runs marathons now. get your strength love and let the family spoil you a bit

My husband seems to think the only suitable food is icecream, such a freak. I'm going to have to be up and making my own food soon, I think, unless I want an all-sugar-dairy-fat diet 24/7.

I'm just glad the pain is gone; I think it was the worst pain I've ever experienced without going into shock or falling unconscious.

It must’ve been very scary. I’m glad you went to get it looked at before something more serious happened. Take care of yourself! ?
