My introduction

I'm 29 (30 in December) and live in the UK. I'm type-2 diabetic, 6'3" tall and about 280lbs.

I've been going to the gym 2-3 times per week for the last year and although I've seen improvements in my strength and fitness, my weight hasn't moved at all, though my body shape has changed.

I guess as I get nearer to 30 I find myself wanting to take care of myself better and I've realised that just going to the gym for an hour 3 times a week just isn't enough.

So. I plan to restrict my diet (drop to about 1500cals a day) and try to exercise 5-6 times a week.

I've registered here partly to take advantage of all the great advice, but also as a way to keep myself focused. By reading and contributing to this forum everyday I hope it'll keep my mind on the goal.

Need Weight Loss Buddy

I'm new to this forum and was looking to buddy up with someone for support and to keep on track. It sound like we are in the same boat with losing weight. But, I have already hit the 30 yr mark and also found myself become more concern about my weight.

I think it's just something about the age, we're not young and invincible anymore!

I'd be more than glad to offer you some support, anything to keep the mind focused!

Hey Bounder - welcome to the forum!

I'm sure you'll get what you're looking for here!

I can understand your frustration with not seeing the exercise benefit your weight yet. BUT, you pointed out a key issue - your body shape has changed!

I'm a personal trainer, so a lot of my clients struggle with this at first. I even have some clients GAIN weight after the first couple of weeks, before losing it.

Muscle weighs more than fat! ...but I bet you know this.

Keep at it! You have the right attitude!

Hi Bounder
Rather than simply aiming to restrict your diet why don't you start to keep a food journal for a week. That way you can see what your eating patterns are and where you are eating too much. It may be due to habit, it may be due to emotions but you need to know exactly where you are before you can move forward.
Congrats though on the excercise regime, changing your body shape is a great start.
