My good days, my bad days, my random thoughts

You can call me whatever you want. Brad, Fish, Dude, Guy... I'm not too picky.

I've been busy as hell lately. I've had a few moments here and there to check out some of the other diaries but not enough to really write up much in here and since nothing was really going on I wasn't too worried about it.

I haven't been making it to the gym, but I've been keeping up with the diet and the regular walking. The gym thing just wasn't working out when I was going (between 5-6). I didn't finish one single workout before running out of time. Too many people, too much waiting for weights or a bench.

Next week I'm going to try something new. The gym opens at 6am. I'm going to try going then. I can go to the gym for 6am and come into work an hour late, but then I'll just make up for that by coming in an hour earlier two days/week.

This sort of sucks because now instead of getting up at 5am twice/week, it's getting up at 5am four times/week. The two days I hit the gym, and the two days I have to come in early to make up that time.

I'm also thinking about changing up my routine. I found an interesting routine on StrongLifts.com. The 5x5 program. I think I'm going to give it a go and see what happens. It's all compound movements (bench, squats, deadlifts, overhead presses) with a barbell, no machines. So next week is (hopefully) going to be the start of that routine.

In the meantime, as I've said, I've been keeping up with my regular half hour minimum walk. I've gone on a couple hour+ hikes with the dog through some nice wooded areas around our place and some sprinting with him along the way.

I'm thinking of buying a bike to take into those areas on my own and to vary my exercise. I enjoy biking much, especially riding trails so I figure, why the F' not.

My diet for the past week (avg daily): 2000 17f/52c/32p

Daily calorie goal is between 1900-2100 so obviously that's in line. That said, despite maintaining the diet and the regular/varied exercise lately I'm still in the 192.x range (low end). My bodyfat % numbers are improving though... we'll see if they continue that way. They're very volatile from day-to-day so I don't get too excited until I see the averaged #s from week-to-week.

So that's where I'm at! Thanks to all for checking in and keeping me in line. Much needed and appreciated!

Biking is great. I blew my back tire though so I gotta fix it soon. Can you ride to work?

I wish I could. But I have about a 106 mile roundtrip commute so I'm going with a no. :D When I get a job closer to home, I would definitely bike to work.

You should feel lucky - you're one of the very very few around here I am nice to on a regular basis.

There are no words to express my gratitude! :D I love being part of exclusive groups!

Fish, dude, definitely get a bike. I have to say it's one of my favorite things to do. trail riding and mountain biking is such great exercise, but it's so much fun. It's like riding your bike when you were a kid. You didn't do it for exercise, just because it's fun. Also, if this old man can do it, so can you.

:iagree:I remember biking in my twenties and it wasn't a good ride unless you came back bleeding! (tree branches to the face, mud slung up your back from the back tire, the total feeling of freedom as you careen down an impossible hill) Totally makes you feel like a kid again. Go for it.

Absolutely! I went trail biking a lot in college; it was the only exercise I got! There are some sweet trails all around this area. No shortage of trails to hurt one's self and I'm sure I'll take a sweet tumble or two... if you're not wiping out, you're not doing it right.

I went to the cycle shop today before getting my car back (FINALLY!) to look at some of the bikes there and I've got it narrowed down to a couple different bikes. Now I just have to figure out a) How much I feel like spending and b) Where I'm going to store the bike in this shitty apartment after I get it (and when it comes home covered in mud).

I finally broke my 192 barrier that I've been stuck at for almost 3 weeks. Weighed in at 188.3 this morning. Nice to move past that. I've been sticking to my diet really well the past couple/few weeks. Been in a few social/drinking situations with a lot of munchies around and I managed to stay away. Had I not been stuck in this 192 rut, I may've indulged... guess these lulls can be good for something.

Unfortunately it's going to be hot as balls here this week. Feels like 98 today (with humidity) and they're forecasting 104 by Friday. Sucks. Too hot. That said, better than the snow.

Thanks, guys!

A buddy of mine asked me to be his tennis partner this week. I've never really played and I thusly warned him... he still insisted I join in so that should be fun. I imagine that will sufficiently kick my ass.

This same friend also mentioned a soccer league. I haven't played soccer since I was 12. If the games are on weekends, I'm seriously considering joining that. I don't know if that's something registering now or if he was just mentioning it in passing... but that'd be fun, too.

As well, same guy (friend recently moved back to London -- hence all the 'new' stuff) is making a dodgeball team for a charity dodgeball tournament. Looks like I'm going to get into that. I imagine that will be unbelievably fun.

Lastly, barring any financial snags (fat chance, but I'll hope nonetheless) between now and July, I hope to have my new bike shortly.

So if all of the above pans out I'm going to be getting exercise out the yin-yang over the next couple months. Not sure how much of it will actually happen but it's nice to have some options in the works.

I don't know how it is there, but around here the soccer leagues are killer. I have four siblings that play in adult leagues, and three of them were hurt pretty seriously. Knee injuries and the like. Two of them are still playing, though.

Tennis is fun. I've never been any good at it, but it is fun and great exercise.

Keep it fun, brother.

Yeah, well, the yin-yang would have been an interesting photo op but you already vetoed that. I veto the bike. So, ha!

Angela, Angela, Angela. You are getting a bit competitive here. It's not an all or nothing thing. You want the Ying-Yang, it's all yours. I would never take such things away from you. Have fun with your new (ahem) toy.

I'm looking at a right now. Still looking, though. This looks good, decent frame... the seat/pedals I wasn't too happy with and will probably be replacing them when I pick it up. Rest assured I will post some bike pics for you when I do the do, Trops.

Other pics will follow. :D

Awww, thank you, Trops. :D You're so generous! (in RE: competitiveness, please note I am also making up for ali's absence . . . )
