So I'm a newbie to this site. I found it when searching for weight loss success stories so I would have an added motivator when it gets tough. This site is just what anyone going through the weight loss struggle needs for support. Thanks to all of you who keep posting and sending your pics, telling your stories and giving helpful hints to the rest of us.
So here's the info on me. At the moment I don't want to state my beginning weight- maybe a little later on as I get further along in reaching my goals. For now I'll say this- I'm 5' 6" and need to lose about 100 pounds. The funny thing is that by looking at me, you wouldn't think I weigh as much as I do- I can thank years of working summers on construction sites with my father's company for giving me some great muscles (also being the only female on a jobsite all the time had soem ego booster benefits in my teen/college years!). However, once I actually started my career in science and stopped spending summers on the jobsites, I was no longer to eat and burn calories the wya I did before- too bad it took me this long to figure that out...
Anyway, I started my "diet" on June 22nd. I have lost 16 pounds so far and am feeling better and more energetic each day.
I started by cutting calories and keeping a food journal- wow is that a lifesaving tool! I incorporated lots of healthy, low calorie foods in with my "normal" eating and replaced a lot of the food I like with low calorie alternatives. I've also discovered some great snack tips and ways to keep from falling asleep- I was drinking 2-3 cokes a day and that's a lot of caffeine to give up. Green tea has been wonderful for the caffeine boost. Last week I started working out and oddly enough, I've become addicted already, to the point that I feel guilty if I miss a day. I've started off light, going every morning on my way to work and doing 30-40 minutes of cardio. I also do some toning exercises at home with light weights about 2-3 week. I really feel like I'm on the right track and I wish this new attitude about my life and health had come on sooner. It was like a light bulb went off and the whole idea of dieting suddenly made sense. For all of you out there who don't tihnk you can do this- believe me, you can. Start simple by giving yourself enough time to adjust to each new change before you add another one... little by little, every pound lost counts. I remind myself every day that I did not gain this weight overnight or in 6 months, so how can I expect to lose it all in such a short period of time... and tell everyone you know what you're doing- the more people you tell, the harder it is to get off track because it gives you a sense ofp urpose having all those people rooting for you- my coworkers have been phenomenal!
I will start posting pics of my weight loss progression each month for all to see but most importantly as a reminder and a motivator for myself. Until then, thanks to all of you for keeping this site going! 16 pounds and counting!!!!
