My first (and hopefully last) attempt at a personal metamorphosis.

Sugar free jello with lite whipped cream. It saves me all the time when I'm ready to binge on sugary crap. Also yoplait lite. Ice tea with truvia. Perrier with mio. Steak tips portabello lean cuisines (160 cals, the lowest for that brand). Pickled vegetables are also very low cal. I can eat an entire jar of marzettis hot mix in a day.

Weigh in today went well. I'm down three more pounds after last week for a current weight of 224lbs. So far since 12/24 I have lost 16lbs. Even more exciting I have made it halfway to my first goal of 32lbs lost and a weight of 208 by mid March! The first half took me a little over a month and I have 6 1/2 weeks to lose the next 16lbs. Time to start thinking about the next goal I guess!

Went for a great swim today and finally found out the length of the pool. I swam a little over a mile in one hour. I also treated myself to a smoothie at Whole Foods afterward and had them add protein powder. Anyone else use protein powder? I have read a few good articles about using it and so I am going to try to add smoothies to my gym days either before or after the workout. I am also going to make them at home so I don't go broke :hurray:

I also took measurements today. This was a bit trickier ~ I just felt like I was doing it wrong, probably since I had never done it before. Here it what I came up with:

Right arm: 15.0

Left arm: 14.5

Right leg: 27.0

Left leg: 26.5

Waist: 40

Hips: 46

Bust: 44

It would be great to break into the 2teens in the next two weeks. So far watching the numbers go down is enough motivation.

I found a new dessert type treat for those of you looking to try something new. Chobani greek yogurt singles vanilla flavored with chocolate chunks. The chocolate is dark and not very sweet, but still delicious. It has 110cal, 3g fat, 8g protein. Next I want to try that jello and the jello brand sugar free chocolate mousse.

My mid section is a mess. I cannot wait for this to be partially gone.

Wow, congratulations Alice! 3 more pounds!! Good job on the measurements..I don't know what is right or wrong...it really doesn't matter...it's the consistency over time...just make sure you measure in the same place next time and I'm sure you'll see a difference! You'll see those 2teens before you know it!

Sarah

Yay ALICE!! Great job on getting rid of another three lbs! You are rocking and I bet you'll see the 2teens in way less then two weeks. I tried chobani a few weeks ago and...ick...I like Fage...but chobani was just gross to me.

Alice,

Congrats on your progress. Looks like you're on you way to your 1st goal with time to spare. I've been making smoothies almost daily and our 3 year old is addicted to them. I just have to keep my portions small because they are so calorie dense. I look forward to seeing your next step towards your goal.

by itself it seems like it would be gross. the chocolate made it doable! i'll have to try fage. congrats on getting your time off approved!

It's been a very busy/stressful week at work. Weigh in is tomorrow and I'm not too excited. We went on a staff retreat this week and I had little control over what I could eat. I brought food with me which was very helpful. It was kind of nice to not have to think as much about what to eat as the choices were limited. I had two Vietnamese sandwiches from this amazing place in San Francisco that I have always heard about called Saigon Sandwich. Why did I have two in a day? Cause that is what was ordered for me. As I was eating the first one I thought about how that was the first sandwich I had eaten in a while. I noticed that I have really avoided bread. I still eat crackers and the occasional english muffin. Next week we are having sandwiches for lunch 3 out of the 5 days so I'll need to make some salad plans. It's all about thinking ahead for me. I work long hours and so if I haven't planned by Sunday night, forget it.

My staff just returned to work after 2 months off (they work seasonally) and 2 complimented me on my appearance. That is a first and it was awkward for me. I struggle with compliments about personal appearance. The fact that people may notice a difference does create a bit of drive.

Time to create some goals and rewards. A part of me is concerned about creating multiple goals because what if I fall behind? Will I get frustrated and give up? So I have thought about it and decided that I will create goals that are not too ambitious and if I reach them earlier that's OK. If I hit a plateau, which is likely to happen, hopefully I can still reach my goals. So here is what I have so far but some of the rewards may change as I am known to change my mind :)

Whew! It took me about 2 hrs to think this through but I feel really good about seeing the year ahead in print. As much as I do want a family someday I feel lucky that don't have kids yet and I can afford to treat myself along the way. I have a good job where I am valued and will have paid off most of my debt by the end of this calendar year. I try to imagine being 80lbs lighter with no credit card debt by the end of the year and my shoulders go down, I take a deep breath, and I look forward to the challenge ahead. I am grateful to this forum and the support I have felt from you all in the past month.

Wow Alice29! You are a planner...I'm tired and inspired at the same time reading through it! I know what you mean about compliments...for me it's like recognition..I prefer private recognition..some people prefer public..a compliment is like public recognition for me...it makes me feel uncomfortable...it's like bringing attention to the fact that I really did need to loose alot of weight...like I didn't know that! I am learning to just say thank you and change the subject as quick as I can!

Congratulations on the debt reduction at the same time as weight reduction..it really will be a whole new you! Good job and keep up the good work!

Sarah

Thanks Sarah for the comment! I have been keeping up with your posts and read about your reflection experience. Your strength has been a big source of inspiration for me over the past week. It sounds like we have some similar emotions about this whole thing. I so look forward to reading about your journey while I experience one of my own. Cheers to you!

Weighed in at 223.5. Not as low as I would like but I notice an obvious difference in how my clothes fit.

Going to start making smoothies at home this week for breakfast. Made some frozen smoothie kits today so I will let you all know how they turn out!

Also purchased a digital food scale today at costco for $20. Reminds me of chem lab in college :)

Hey Alice,

Don't sweat the .5 pound progress..at least it's progress! I don't weigh every week because I don't like the possibilty of bad news (and I know there are weeks with fluid retention, not able to exercise, particularly bad day yesterday etc...). I do weigh once a month typcially around the 1st, and then I do the measurements every month typically around 15th, so I go about 2 weeks with between feedback.

Keep your great attitude and focus and you'll be fine!

Sarah

Thanks for the support, Sarah!

This was a very busy week at work so it was the first true test of "what will I do when I have very little time to eat?" I used to snack constantly on junk, drink soda, eat burritos, etc. Whatever was quick and easy happened. Plus the stress caused me to binge once I got home. I am only this busy at work 3 times a year (training new seasonal staff from 8am-10pm 8 days in a row!) so this was really a great chance to see my mental progress with making choices.

I am happy to report I did pretty well. I only ate out once (puerto rican food is amazing! i was able to say no to sweet plantains, a first) and I have one soda throughout the week. We have a salad bar at work so I have been making a plate of random items like raw veggies, tuna, and cottage cheese. The lettuce is pretty poor quality so salads are difficult. I did not make it to the gym once, but was hiking throughout the week for training so I bet that helped a lot.

Weekly weigh in was 220.5, down three pounds from last week! Woohoo! As I look ahead to my first real goal I need to stay very focused to make it happen. I have 5 weeks and 12.5 lbs to go!

This week I noticed a big change in how my clothes fit. The line on my stomach that my jeans would leave is over. I am wearing three different pairs of pants I have not worn in at least 3 yrs (or ever!) and my favorite vest is loose. A few months ago the zipper popped open on the vest due to my size, thank god it didn't break!

I am entertaining the idea of running the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco in May. I have never enjoyed running but realize as I lose weight this could change. I can always walk if I want as well. I just feel the need to have some fitness goals, which will of course help my weight loss goals. Warrior Dash is a little more my style, I'm just not sure if I could handle it. Time will tell!

Hey Alice29,

Congratulations on the 3 pound loss and your clothes starting to feel loose! Isn't it a wonderful feeling? It's really what I look forward to more than a number on the scale (well...except for weighin day!) And all of this while you're super busy with work!! I'm impressed!!

On the run...San Francisco has got to be a hard place to run...too many hills for my taste (and my fitness level)..if you can do it, go for it...running will take the weight off, but if you tackle something really hard it might be a demotivator..only you can know that about yourself. Maybe try a test on a treadmill first to see how you can do...running outside I find is tougher physically, but much easier mentally...not sure why for me that's the way it is, but it is!

Looking forward to seeing your continued progress!

Hi Alice,

Love the goals you have put for yourself. Good going. Isn't this place so great for motivation? Good luck. Will drop by again. Have a wonderful weeek.

Hit a bit of a roadblock last night. I had to have a cyst removed from my upper back last night which was a relatively unpleasant experience. I have some stitches and my movement is pretty restricted. I can't shower (AHH!) or work until I go back tomorrow to have it checked. Only good part is I have to eat lots of yogurt to balance the medication which destroys all of the bacteria in my body. Looks like exercise is going to have to take a bit of a break at least until I get the stitches out. I am inspired to do some cooking since I have so much free time! Oh and I went from using the largest belt hole to the 2nd to smallest. Retiring a belt is gonna feel sooooo good!

Have a great day!

Went back to the doctor today only to find out that I am going to have to go back a few more times. I thought today would be it but the healing process is a much longer process than I expected. Feeling a bit uninspired. While I'm on a break from the gym I am going to plan some new workouts, put some great music on my new ipod for the gym, and cook some good food. Never thought I would feel this restless about not going to the gym!!

Hey Alice29,

I'm so sorry that you had to have the cyst removed..but very glad that you did and they were able to get it. I will say a prayer for your healing process. Great idea on getting your new ipod lined up with some good workout songs. I have about 5 1 hr playlists 5 30 min playlists and 3 15 min playlists to suit the time I have available. I also have my chinese lesson pod casts that I listen to (I'm a multi-tasker...I'd go crazy without some distraction from the elliptical!).

I'm sure you will find some good healthy recipes to play around with in the kitchen...bravo in that department too (I admit, I am not a cook...thankfully, my husband is!)

Heal well, and keep your chin up!!

Sarah

I just have to say, that sebaceous cyst removal is like, one of my favorite things ever. Gross, yes, but I love gross things. Everytime we do one here, we fight over who gets to do it, the patients usually think we are insane. I hope your cyst situation gets resolved, and heals up nicely.
