My diary

Autumn,

Are you on a medically supervised plan? You're heading down a caloric road that is down right unsafe.

A body *needs* more calories then you are giving it to merely function.

While I think it's great you are motivated and determined to lose this weight, I think what you're doing is unhealthy.

This is the primary reason why you hear of people losing a great deal of weight and then dropping dead - your body will lose not only fat, but muscle - your heart is a muscle. You need to remember that.

What are you going to do when your body realizes it'sb being starved and shuts down burning calories? Are you going to reduce your calories even lower?

You CAN lose weight eating 10-12 times your body weight in calories - that would be 1530-1836.

I hope for your sake, you will reconsider your approach and look at the dangers of what you're doing.

For the last year, I never ate breakfast or lunch and if i had one i would skip dinner.. I was starving myself and never lost weight. I hated eating in the morning and by afternoon I didn't have time to eat, the only time u would catch me eating is if I had court and if I was out and about doing things without the kids... other then getting the kids from school and taking them to their afternoon activities i wouldnt bother eating.. My dinners were primarily a piece of chicken a cup of mashed potatos and gravy and a roll.. My calorie count was probably about 400 but the soda would make it 1600.. So in reality i am eating more then I have before but i am dispersing the calories more evenly threw out the day..

I am on depo provera the birthcontrol that helps u add the pounds.. Another reason why its so difficult to lose the weight for me.. My sister got on depo and added 5 dress sizes in a year.. In reality i am eating more calories then i have been before..

I will see a doctor here in a couple days to have them aok my diet.. I have been on this diet for 10 days nows and there isnt a change in my weight, hmm wonder why..

I'm really sorry to hear about your grandfather. I hope everything works out well there.

It's also good news that you are going to check your eating with a doctor. I guess the fact that you are not losing despite not eating much may be an indication that the process M2M mentions, where your lack of calories limits or prevents your weight loss, might be having an impact already.

You sure have been busy! I love the smell of new mown grass but I bet you don't!

It's great that you are continuing to look for ways to make your better health happen and open to suggestions about making it work better for you. I hope today helps your progress. :)

Day 11

I am deathly afraid that if I bump up my calorie intake i am going to gain weight instead of lose weight.. Plus i don't think i can eat anything more then i already am without throwing it back up.. I eat three meals a day without snacking..

Breakfast: Bowl of cereal, mini wheats and a cup of whole milk.. I totally have gas now from the milk.. 360 calories

I know what dinner is going to be tonight.. Cabbage soup.. Husband is probably going to fight me on this one and want to make some kind of baked potato with hambuger and cheese, like a stuffed potato without most the stuffing..

To be continued...

I have been on this diet for 10 days nows and there isnt a change in my weight, hmm wonder why..

I would imagine it's because you've reduced your calories to barest minimum for too long.

Your body NEEDS more calories then you've given it. So it will hold on to what you give it.

This has dangerous ramifications. When you lose weight you lose fat and muscle. Your heart is a muscle. That is *not* a muscle you can jeapordize losing.

You're starving your body - improper weightloss of any kind just isn't worth that.

I'm glad you're going to be talking to a doctor. I hope the doc has enough nutritional background to be able to help you rectify your metabolism.

Autumn, Debi is right. You are doing very extreme dieting. You're obviously in starvation mode now and this is only hindering you from a weight loss.

First thing first: 'diets' - as we know them - don't work long term. Changing your food and portion control, time of day and when to exercise will give you great success. You want it all right now, well sister, it isn't going to happen very quickly.

You have the passion to do this and that's great so know intermingle the educational phase with your mindset and you'll come up aces.

As I see right this minute, you and I are going to have to have a private chat right soon. You're scaring me quite frankly. Girl, you have to eat to lose weight successfully.

I'm glad to hear you'll schedule an appointment with a dietitian - you've been eating far too few calories for a long time and if you're not losing, I'm not surprised.

Around 15 calories per pound of body weight is generally considered maintenace. 10-12 calories per pound of body weight a healthy and sustainable weight loss. Anything under 8 calories per pound of body weight, well, your body is going to revolt.

I hope you'll get some better information and really reconsider your approach to losing weight.

This is something that we all want - but if you don't do it in a healthy way, you're only hurting yourself. And your family in the long run.

We simply await your news. Come hither Autumn, inquiring minds want to know how it went this morning.

I'm sure the cabbage kettle is getting a break

So I awoke this morning thinking time to finally get a weigh in and be freaked out because I haven't felt like I have lost weight..

Called the clinic and asked for an appointment, she tried scheduling me for next week, because she only works two days a week monday and tuesday.. I asked if i could be squeezed in today and she said she had one cancel for 10am and if i could make it in time i could have it.. Well hell, i live about 10 minutes from my clinic that gave me 40 minutes to get ready.. So they put me threw the same ole bs, weight, height, bloodsugar and blood pressure.. 124-5'7-117-116/86 .. so the nurse said i looked healthy..

I go back in the little room and see this dietrician that is younger then i am.. Okay i was scared by now of this tiny figured younger woman.. So she asked me my diet.. I told her the wheat toast or yogurt in the morning, salad with lite dressing and cabbage soup for dinner.. She was kinda scared of the diet and asked me if i felt hungry after a meal and i said only in the morning and sometimes after lunch.. So we went over the basics of the body and she insists that i get another glucose test because i had a bad one 2 years ago *rolls eyes* i have had plenty since then and this wasnt why i was here to get a lecture on my blood sugar, I monitor it ever day and watch it closely.. So then here comes the lecture about bad calories vs good calories and dieting isnt about calories its about eating healthy.. Then her recommendation is 1600 calories and when I start working out to go to 2000 calories.. SO here is what her recommendations are..

Breakfast- Yogurt with corn or bran flakes mixed in and an apple with a piece of toast.

Lunch- Salad, lite dressing, hard boiled egg or ham and cheese in my salad

Lunch snack- Apple with cheese slices

Dinner- Cabbage soup, whole potato, with a slice of wheat bread, BUT add sausage or something to go with my cabbage soup that is a protien..

I have to take a calcium supplement due to the lactose intolerance.. My husband needs to go up to a 2000 calorie count..

The BEST thing and it makes me feel better is I have lost 18 pounds since march!!! So i have lost weight and i just dont see it because I still look at my self as the same obese ugly duckling..

I'm assuming this is just a one day sampling of her diet plan ?? I'm glad you made the trip and I'll be even happier that you listen to her advice.

the lecture about bad calories vs good calories and dieting isnt about calories its about eating healthy

She is dead-on about this. I hope you seek out some range and expand your menu and enjoy healthy foods while benefiting from weight loss and general 'just feeling better'. To me, this is the part that really becomes contagious and keeps the mind sharp on decisions.

There is no one person on here or in an office with a sheepskin that can tell you what to eat but the suggestions can be consistent with success, the true success will lie within your ability to make smart, fulfilling decisions that's going to keep you interested and content.

A super duper hardy congrats on losing 18 lbs !! this is a HUGE accomplishment !! View attachment 3235

Thats what we discussed was the food pyramid for mine and my husbands eating what servings of what per day qualify for our daily calorie intake.. She said when i hit my 140 mark to sustain it i will need 1600-1700 calories a day thats why i need to eat that much now.. Manuel will need 1850-1950 a day..

I will see her every two weeks for the majority of the time and once she sees me making progress we will do monthly.. Right now our goal is the eating right and then in two weeks she wants to set a different goal.. She said if i fail small goals that will be on me and i will only have myself to blame, I respect that thou.. She didnt put some huge ass goals on me and want me to accomplish it in two weeks..

But she did make me cry and thats why i sounded so bitter in my post, she told me losing weight is going to be a LONG term goal... I had to pick my quivvering jaw off the floor and ask how long term and i started to ball, long term goals are usually 5 to 10 year goals.. So as i am balling she said 10 months.. I said u think thats long term?!?!?! Thats a short term goal for our household. getting the kids ready to go somewhere takes longer then that.. I was really happy with the 10 months, granted i wont depend on that solely but at least it gives me something to look forward to instead of 5 years where my oldest will be 17..

She gave me paper work about what qualifies as what on the food pyramid and how many servings a day i need in each, so that way i can break it up over the day .. BUAHAHA I can still enjoy my cabbage soup and she actually thinks thats a dietary strong point for my veggies.. Ill write up more later and show what i have for my serving of each food group..

I look foward to the excersing, she said that it will be every other day for 10-15 minutes and then we will go from there, so i know my next step is going to be a baby step.. OMG she said if u get a moment while do laundry drop and give me 10 pushups.. I asked her if she was insane, she looked at me puzzled, i said oh good gawd u sound like my husband, just ill try it and never mind.. My husband is a military man, give him a chance to do a push up and he will jump on it.. Then we went over the cardio vs weight lifting, weight lifting burns off more calories due to the fact ur building muscles but steve already told me that.. Steve also has to understand that i dont want back muscles like him :D .. She wants to do more weight lifting come after the walks.. But i dont have to start any of it till we get threw the baby steps and i may sound like i am getting ahead of myself but in all reality i am just looking foward to this..

I may not post until way later today.. Tonight we have our final round of playoffs in 8 ball and i would like to go practice after i get the kids to school but i also have 10 other things to do this morning.. I got a kid going to outdoor school here in May and she needs this MEGA list of crap, might aswell go to walmart and buy half the damn store.. I am slowly working on the list thou, one of the things she needs is local area dirt..

Hagd all and take it easy.. The beastlings have awoken and my peaceful morning is turning in to a mad house..

It sounds like that dietitian gave you a heap of useful information, and it will be good that you have her to check in with too!!

I bet you feel heaps better after you start to put the ideas into practice. :)

I am *so* glad to hear that the dietitian gave you this information. It sounds reasonable and *healthy*
:)

Good for you for making the appointment and going to see her!

It's going to be a long weekend, right now everyone is in limbo about who is going to stay with grandpa this weekend up at the coast because his health isn't getting any better.. All my relatives are fuckups and if there isn't a meth bag up there then they aint going.. My other cousins are too busy trying to out fuck each other and see who can get knocked up first with men that don't respect them and beat them.. My family is a real nightmare there is only 4 of us with any common sense. I have 2 aunts and one uncle and my mother and then 12 cousins who are old enough to have responsibilites... So it looks like me and my three kids need to go up there and make sure my grandfather is taking his medicine and eating right.. I am broke till tomorrow thou because bills were paid this past paycheck and I didn't leave myself shit.. The reason why i am venting is this, Its going to be hard to try and stick to my diet between doctors appointments and taking care of him, as long as we are eating at home i should be fine but the kids love the town he lives in and I know they are going to want to go play in town at least twice and I usually grab them happy meals and we go play more.. I am sweating the eating thing and i shouldn't be. BUT i am going to go to Chico's Pizza and have a slice of taco pizza and NO ONE will stop me.. :)

Just catching up in here! So happy that you went to the doc. I hope you are able to come to terms with proper nutrition now. :)

Hi Autumn,
Your diary is heart-wrenching! Oh I'm so sorry that your family is not the most functional bunch! Sorry about your grandpa, my grandparents mean the world to me (also my step-dad's parents and family too!). And I agree with Randy and debi--please get good advice! Trust me, eating enough WILL help you lose weight! And don't be discouraged, you can reach your goal. Patience--it's the hardest thing. I wish I had more of it!

Take care.:)
