My dairy

I also plan to do week 1 for 2 weeks, because I'm not a runner myself either.

I'm doing to Couch25k program too. Ive been doign all the weeks twice. I'm now on week 4, and I'm stunned at my progress and my ability. My only gripe about running is I just wish they'd make big girl sport bras with actual SUPPORT. Sometimes in my head when I'm bouncing down the road during my run, I half expect Quagmire from Family Guy to jump out of the trees and do his signature giggity giggity giggity goo! Geez. It's really awful, but I guess it's nothing that some duct tape cant fix ;)

Great! We can do it together!

How many times during the week do you run? I was surprised myself I could jog for 60 seconds, I didn't think I could!

I talked to a friend who says if I'm not sore I should run again tomorrow (I ran today as well), or I could do it 4 days a week. Kind of stuck between what to do. I'll talk to my mom when she gets home..I'm going to pick up some good running shoes today hopefully..

I'm nervous that I won't be able to do it, but also excited that I probably can!

OMG, I almost died laughing about that! But its true, not only do I have the problem with the boobs, but I need to wrap my midsection because all my loose skin jiggles too much when I'm working out and is just generally uncontainable.
Great, now when I'm working out tonight I'm going to be thinking of Quagmire...

It sounds like you're doing good so far. And you seem open to learning about everything so you'll do well

You CAN do it!

I was in the same boat for a bit (addicted to mmorpgs) it's not entirely how I got here, but for the most part it was. Just keep your head up and remember how miserable you felt playing them and being overweight, welcome to the forum!

And I totally agree with the bra stuff... I wear 2, a regular soft push up and the firmest sports bra i could find :blush5::blush5: surprisingly comfortable though :p

{edit} If you're worried about the fluctuations in weight and weigh yourself everyday, put the numbers in a spreadsheet (corel, or windows spreadsheet) and then at the end of the week/weeks make it into a graph with a median line and the line is basically the average. It helps me feel better then freaking out about every pound or 2 :p

You guys are such a great support group, thanks Owl for checkin' in periodically.

I'm not sore, so I think I'm going to go running tomorrow too. I need shoes though.

Tomorrow will be my 7th day. I stepped on the scale today and I'm down 0.5 lbs. -2 lbs from last week...(240 now 238)

An interested thing has happened...

I feel full all of a sudden (Not stuffed, just full) and all my cravings for junk food are nil, gone. My mom went to the store today (I think sprouts?) and brought home some toffee covered peanuts (why? oh why..oh well), pop chips (Not sure if you've heard of them, they're baked but are made with rice and popped rather than fried..like potato chips)

Pop chips
Flavor: Sea salt and vinegar
Supposedly 'all natural'
Says on the package: no preservatives
no artificial flavors or colors
no cholesterol
no saturated fat
0 grams of trans fat

Hey Kara, you might like these! They seem mininally processed.
20 chips in a serving, 120 cal
4 grams of fat, no saturated or trans fat
20 carbs, 1 gram of sugar, 1 gram of fiber, 260 mb of sodium, 1 gram of protein

She also got some black licerace...oh well, we're all trying to eat healthy, my mom has been very supportive and a huge influence on what I eat. Yesterday I cut open a fresh watermelon and I've been having a some of that each day.

I gotta tell you ... chips of any kind are my weakness. :)

I have been known to skip a meal to allow for the calories of a handful or two of chips. Not the healthiest thing to do, but sometimes a treat is necessary!

Dinner:
Well we went to taco bell, was really the only 'healthy' place that was close by.
I made sure to get the fresco soft taco with tomatoes and lettuces, I hate tomatoes, but I ate it anyway. I seem to be enjoying food that I didn't like more and more.

To be short, it was nasty. 11 bucks and we got 2 fresco burrito's , one for my dad and mom, I got 2 fresco ranchero soft taco. 170 cals each. ALOT of sodium, unfortunately. It was very salty..it was either dark meat chicken or heavily seasoned white meat chicken. We did not enjoy the meal, but nevertheless eating out is part of our lifestyle, we probably eat out or used to eat out 5 days a week, now we're eating out at most 2 days a week. I'm saving alot of money too, not ordering fast food all the time and eating healthy at the home.

Here's the specs on the taco's, I had 2:
4 grams total fat
730 sodium, each.
21 carbs
3g fiber
12 grams of protein

I also had 2 small diet cokes, I only drink soda when I eat out.

Here's the calorie countdown for today, I still am going to probably have some snacks before I call it a day:
Target Calorie range for today: 2000

Oh, good news! I also got some shoes today! Some new balance running shoes with a slight arch. Huge difference! Feels like walking on pillows.

It is a new balance ABZORB. And it has memory foam in it too..I'm excited about tomorrow, we'll see how the running will go. What a difference of weather between 5 am and 6! I am surprised...when the sun comes out around 5:30-6 it becomes alot hotter! Even in the morning!

Hi Spark!
I just wanted to stop by your diary & see how you're holding up. You seem to be extremely motivated- that's awesome! I know you and I started about the same time :)

I wanted to say, Monday, Tuesday and Wed this week KILLED me, exercise-wise.. I totally forgot what it was like to exercise. When I first started my exercise DVD (2005), I couldn't even walk around the local track once (which is the equivalent of 1/4 mile) without serious pain in my chins and ankles.. I lived on Motrin for the first month. I was taking 3 every morning, 2 in the afternoon and 2 at bedtime every single day for 4 weeks. Funny though, this time around - I did have to take 1 Motrin about an hour before exercising Mon-Thursday, and one night this week I needed a Tylenol- but today NOTHING.. I am in no pain (shocking). I think maybe you're body is just adjusting, but don't risk an injury! If it's THAT bad, you may be pushing yourself too hard, too soon.. I just wouldn't want to see you getting really hurt, then you might be laid up for awhile-

I'm going to be regularly checking in ! :)

Me too, when I first started. You actually have a lower BMI than I...but it was easier for me. Weird. My shins only hurt when I go jogging from the couch 2k program, after about 2 or 3 minutes of rest at home the pain goes away. I'm in no pain right now.

It's really not that bad, my shins were killing me though earlier right when I finished up the first day of C25k...but the pain went away in a few minutes.

I gotta say though...the first day, I would jog with my wii fit in place. I did strength training too...it wasn't that bad because I was jogging in place! Well, after I did that and before I found out these forums last week, I decided to actually go jogging/walking. So I jogged/walked, not as much as my first day on C25k...but to get used to it. The C25k was tough but not impossible, I also didn't really "run" you could say, it was more of a slow jog, but I'm so proud of myself I even got through it!

I'm on 2 high blood pressure medications...I was on the first one but then it stopped being as effective..I had to take another more powerful in addition to it! So I'm hoping with this weight loss to get off of those! :)

When I first started, I was *extremely* sore. My body just wasn't used to that much excerise. I could barely walk, when I started my abs hurt so bad I could barely go to the restroom! But the last two days my body adjusted and now I have no pain! I didn't do the wii fit strength training today but plan to do another jog tommorrow with the strength training. We'll see how I can do!

I felt good jogging from the parking lot to the safeway store to get my pills today, without stopping. My parents and I also walked the dogs for a short walk, about 10 minutes today. Keep it up! We can do this together!:grouphug:

OK, I Just finished my second day of the Couch to 5k program, on the first week.

I put my new shoes on to test 'em...I hope I can do some strength training later, as my shins are still killing me..sore as heck. In the podcasts he said you should be feeling the effects, but not out of breath. Hah! Oh I'm telling you, I'm out of breath, heh. I'm breathing pretty hard after that 60 seconds, pushing myself each time to complete it, and I did!

It would be a whole lot easier though if my shin's didn't hurt after I run..I got shoes with good arch support too...good running newbalance shoes, I guess my body just isn't used to running. After about 10 minute's of sitting down (not walking) the pain seems to go away, I think this is just from not used to running. I think I might take tomorrow off too...buut I want to get better! OK, well, off to eat breakfast. I'll keep ya'll updated

I had shin pain too at first, but it went away. I am very scared of injury, and being overweight and attempting to run/jog/whatever puts us at an even greater risk. I guess this is why I'm doing each week twice. I also jog every other day and really take that time in between to recover. I notice now my shins don't hurt, but while I'm running, my calves do, but I guess that is a where the tension settles so I must be doing something right!

and lol@ not supposed to be out of breath. That made me laugh too, but believe it or not, it does actually get easier -- especially week 3. Crazy huh? So far week 2 has been the hardest for me.

Well I just finished my strength training on my wii fit today..

I think maybe my body just think its starving itself. Because when I was on the scale I was suddenly 241.5 lbs...that's a big difference from 238 yesterday, but then again I used a different scale at a different time. 241 is actually more than what I started to begin with ....frusterating, but I'm not going to let this set me back. I'm going to go weigh in again around 3 pm, see if it's any difference. I swear the wii scale must be rigged...or maybe it's from all the sodium from those fresco taco's yesterday.hmm...But that doesn't matter, I feel great! And I feel so much happier, I should start taking measurements every week...

Breakfast:
1 cup skim milk (86 cal)
1 apple cinnamon multi-grain cereal (150 cal)
1 digestive yogurt (110)
1 serving of carrots
1 slice of watermelon (86)
Total: 472

Hi!

I just wanted to comment on the scale issue. I made a mistake the last time I lost weight and learned that the best thing to do is weigh yourself once weekly at the same time in the same spot with the same scale.

I used to weigh myself in the morning, then later in the day, then the next afternoon, etc., the scale went up and down all the time- I finally resolved that I was going to weigh myself once a week (as hard as that can be).. it was hard ignoring the scale, trust me.. but I had to do it or I would have driven myself crazy! So I made Monday my official weigh in day, first thing in the morning before I ate.. and that's what I'm doing this time.

Don't freak about the scale! lol..

Seriously seriously seriously ... step away from the scale. You're going to drive yourself crazy.

Weighing multiple times a day is useless.
Weighing on different scales is useless.

All either of those things is going to do is frustrate you.

STOP WEIGHING. :)

Really.

Your body weight varies throughout the course of the day. Drink a bottle of water? That water is in your stomach and a pint of water weighs about 2lbs. Your weight will go up. Eat a sandwich? That food is in your body and your weight will go up.

Weigh on a different scale? Each scale is going to be calibrated differently. If scale a says you weigh 241 and scale b says you weigh 245, which one is correct? Someone who is obsessing is going to say that scale b is right and get depressed. But if you lose 2 lbs and scale a says 239 and scale be says 243, you've still lost 2 lbs ... so who really cares?

Quit weighing yourself. I cannot stress that strongly enough.

Pick one time of the day (I prefer in the morning after I get out of my shower).
Pick one scale.
Weigh one time and one time only (either daily or weekly).

AND WALK AWAY. :D

Ok Kara, I'll stop using the wii scale body test and just use the wii for strength training every other day.

I'm going to use my digital scale I have...I normally weigh myself around 2:30-3pm everyday. According to my digital scale I'm 235. I'll keep using that one.

Breakfast:
1 cup skim milk (86 cal)
1 apple cinnamon multi-grain cereal (150 cal)
1 digestive yogurt (110)
1 serving of carrots
1 slice of watermelon (86)
Total: 472

Lunch:
1 scrambled egg with cheese
(86 cal + 70)
2 slices of multi grain whole wheat bread (120 x 2)
2 slices of watermelon (80 x 2)
Cal: 556

Snack: Slice of watermelon (86 cal)
Snack: Had a serving of broccoli. Eww. I hate broccoli, but maybe I will eventually come to like it
(35 cal)
Total cal:
1149

Damn it...I really screwed up today.

I know Kara (or I think) has 1 day out of the week to have a fav dinner or lunch she likes...well, this is mine for the week, I hope it doesn't mess me up too much.

My mom brought home panda express for dinner tonight, I've been doing great, not having any soda (except diet every few days), eating very healthy...but to her credit she thought it was healthy. She got me madarin chicken, fried rice and chow mein.
Well, no way was I going to eat it all, after looking at the calories for them at panda's website my eyes bulged out and I almost fainted...I put a small amount of each, chow mein, rice, and chicken, on my plate, a good portion size. I just want to throw the rest out after this. 570 calories for fried rice??? come on...Well, I'm guessing I had at least 900 calories, even with the small portions. Needless to say, this isn't going to set me back, and I'm going to eat very good the rest of the week, until my 'free' day, which I don't even really want until I start losing more weight. I told my mom about the calories and she couldn't believe it either...sigh. Final menu:

Chow mein (Serving sice 8.3 oz) Cal: 400
Fried rice (Serving size 10 oz) Cal:570
Madarin chicken: (Serving size 5.8 oz) Cal:310

Breakfast:
1 cup skim milk (86 cal)
1 apple cinnamon multi-grain cereal (150 cal)
1 digestive yogurt (110)
1 serving of carrots
1 slice of watermelon (86)
Total: 472

Lunch:
1 scrambled egg with cheese
(86 cal + 70)
2 slices of multi grain whole wheat bread (120 x 2)
2 slices of watermelon (80 x 2)
Cal: 556

Snack: Slice of watermelon (86 cal)
Snack: Had a serving of broccoli. Eww. I hate broccoli, but maybe I will eventually come to like it
(35 cal)

Dinner:
Small portion of panda express fried rice, chow mein, and mandarin chicken.
Total cal:
<2000

You know what ... there's a positive here. :)

You took what could have been a bad situation and made the best of it. You knew enough to look up the calorie totals in advance and to take small portions. A lot of people would have said "well it's here and I can't say no and screw it I'll just start over tomorrow" and then eat it all. You didn't.

That's a HUGE step. Because quite honestly, this is life. Our lives are always going to be filled with situations like this where you go out with friends or someone cooks for you or someone shows up with birthday cake and you are in a position where it would be rude to say no. And you have to deal with it w/out freaking out or giving up. And you did.

And, on top of that, now you know - and now your mom knows too. Fried rice - that right there should have been a sign for her! :) Now she knows that fried rice is not a healthy thing for her to bring home and next time maybe she'll also make better choices. :)

I think you did really well, so kudos to you! :)

Exactly, that's life. I know my mom is trying hard to find healthy things...and we're in it together, she often will go shopping when she's hungry though and buy junk sometimes, I don't eat it, but she does. I'm hoping we can go to sprouts tomorrow (really hoping) to get some more vegetables and different fruit, and more bread and other things to make lunchs with.

I really see this is the only day in the week I screwed up, one day out of 7, one meal....it's really not a big deal I just gotta keep eating healthy and exercising.

Before I started this lifestyle change I was going to go out with my magician friend Jesse and hang out with him....well, honestly, I'm afraid to. I was probably going to spend 1-2 days with him. I haven't seen him since october of last year..and I really want to see him. Since I don't have transportation, I'll have to figure out how to take the bus. The main thing is, I'm afraid if go there, I know I can order healthy things if we go out to eat, but I'm not sure what to do if they cook something, its rude to not eat it. Last time I went there it was Halloween and they threw several big parties....

Last time I went there I had a scrambled egg burrito with chorizo. Chorizo is a mexican sausage...very bad for you. I don't know how to deal with this...I was putting off going because I didn't know how to handle it. What do you think?

PS: Did you see any of my magic? Curious to what you thought..
