my dad

my dad needs to start workin out but once he started on a monday and did chest / abs and he was in so much pain the next day.. then he never did it again... he says he wants to do it light what should i do for him? becuase the weight he was lifting was light.. but it still made him sore,, should i make him his own little routein?? help please :)

he over did it, plain and simple.
yes, at first muscles are a little more sore than usual, but if it was painful, he did too much.

start with only compound moves...bench press, pullups, deadlifts, squats...and only 1 working set, after 1 warmup set. do that 2-3x a week, and after 2-3 weeks, he'll be able to go to 2 working sets without being in agony the next day.

he was merely overzealous about getting into shape. our bodies are really amazing...they'll let us do a ton more work than we really should, but we pay for it afterwards ;)

You mean sore and stiff, or severe pain? Pain should be seen by a doctor, sore and stiff is normal starting out. Light for you or light for him? Let him start out extremely light and work up from there. I like what malklore said. Focus on some stabilization exercises as well, chest press on stability ball and/or cable machines for other areas.
