My Big Fat Journal

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone.

Dear Diary,

Sunday's golf game was quite the experience. 4 hours to play 9 holes of golf. I think that is a record. On the upside....I can hit the ball really straight, I just can't make it go very far. I also hit about a 45 yard putt in. Paul said he had never seen anyone do that in real life before. I love beginners luck. I was only 2 over par on a couple of holes, but other than that I suck.

It is a nice game to play. I did not walk and carry my clubs, M2M. Can you imagine how long that game would have been? I'd still be out there!

Eating wise I'm doing well on calories, but I should have eaten more veggies today. Paul made a big batch of meatballs yesterday so my dinner tonight was 3 oz of pasta with 2 meatballs. I'm at my limit on cals because I went to Qdoba for lunch and had a naked, fajita burrito. No veggies for dinner???? Very, very bad!

I got a great recipe out of one of those cook books I bought the other day. I will post it on the recipe thread.

Does anyone practice "Mindful Eating"? It makes sense, but then so does the numerous small meals per day approach. I am thinking about trying it. I like eating a lot throughout the day, but it does sort of make me obsess about the foods sometimes. Any opinions on that would be welcome.

I need to get around to more of your diarys, but I really need to go exercise right now, so hopefully I won't be too tired later. I'll catch up soon, one way or another.

Does anyone practice "Mindful Eating"?

Never heard of this...what is it?

Glad you enjoyed your golf outing. Sounds like fun and sounds like you kicked butt for a first timer. Bet that turned Paul on!!!!!

Catcha later chickie!!!

Beginners luck was definately on my side, hf---no doubt about that.

Scarlett, Mindful eating is based on the Zen principle of mindfulness. You are to concentrate on where all the food came from, how it grew, how it got to you, yada yada yada. You only eat when you are hungry, but never wait more than 6 hours. The difference being now I eat something every 3-4 hours. They both make sense to me, but I thought less eating=less thinking about food. I don't know what is the right thing. All the theories around eating every 3-4 hours, small meals make sense, but then so does listening to your body and eating when you are hungry. Maybe I will try it for a few weeks. I don't know. I'm tired and I like my snacks.

Here are some links to some articles about it.

Hi there!
I agree with you it's hard to decide what method makes more sense. I would try to incorporate both of them. Like eating every 3-4 hours and doing all the visualization stuff and stopping when you feel full. I'm afraid I'd would get too busy, and forget to eat! When I'm busy I just don't think about it. So having it in my mind to eat every 3 hrs, would help. I also try to sit down, put all my food on a plate and eat it with a knife & fork, and enjoy it slowly. that way I'm more mindful of what i'm putting in my mouth. We all know how fast a bag of chips disappears while your'e watching t.v., before ya know it it's gone! Good Luck and keep up the good work!

Wow Piney,
I think that would get me thinking so much about food that I would just keep eating, and thinking and eating ;)

On a serious note, I haven't heard of it, but if it's something that could work for you it doesn't cost anything to try :D

Yes, I agree with M2M about the diaries. I am THE slackest diary replier, so dont be like me & get stressed about it. We all understand. Sometimes its enough just posting in your own diary hey?

Just checking in. A 45 yard putt? Geez, I've been playing since I was 12 and never put in a 45 foot putt. Now I'm jealous.

Yes - LJay is right about the diaries. This is supposed to help us, not make us feel guilty or stressed! When life gets busy, and your busy dealing with life, just know that the diaries will still be here. Never feel like you have to "catch up" just start from where they are when you have time.

And sometimes, just posting in our own diary is all we can do, 'aint nothing wrong with that!

According to this holistic doctor, we are not only "what we eat" but also "how we eat." A sound introduction to the concept of mindful eating.

This is from the article on the link you posted....I TOTALLY said this weeks ago. I think I should be practicing holistic medicine like this dude. LOL!!!

I like this concept....although I could see where people could take it to the extreme and then I think it might be detrimental.

Hope you are having a great day.

Congrats on your progress so far keep it up and I hope I can stick to my plan as long as you have! It's been 4 days for me now each day it does get easier somewhat!

Hey Pineola, golf sounded like fun. I think it's called "whiffing the ball" when you miss it. I've done that a few times.

Good luck on your 10 week challenge. I may join the 6 wk challenge that starts on Monday, though I may stick with the one I already signed up for on Self.com.

I like the phrase "mindful eating". I googled it and found plenty of sites about it. Just the phrase gives ideas about how to approach food though. Thanks for the link.

Have a great day! :p

Dear Diary,

I have been really getting in some good exercise the last couple of days. Yesterday I walked for most of my lunch hour. After work I went to the gym, did some cardio and then did a lower body work-out. Today I walked a bit, came home and danced for 1/2 hour and worked in a free weight upper body workout in between the dancing. Doesn't sound like much when I type it out, but I it was good for me! You know how I have EMI (exercise motivation issues). I am going to start building muscle again. I know this will probably make my weight loss slow down at first as I will be gaining muscle, but in the long run it will get my metabolism working harder and it will be easier to lose weight. I don't want to be a slave to the scale. I am also measuring some body parts.

I'm still doing poorly on eating enough vegetables. I need to look up some recipes and go shopping again. I tend to get a salad in everyday, but that is about it.

Nanders, thanks for stopping by. It is difficult to know what works the best unless you experiment. It can't hurt to try different things as long as you keep trying to keep up with an exercise plan and eat well.

Scarlett, you are the holistic MD! It is very much like what you said about sitting and eating. M2M, I think at first you might keep eating, but I think the idea is that if you are really thinking about what you are eating, you will eat the highest quality foods and really be aware of what those foods are. They suggested you eat with chop sticks and use your non-dominant hand. That would really slow you down! I'm going to start doing it one meal per day and see if it really does anything.

Hi, Niapage. Welcome! It is very difficult. When I first started and joined this forum it was especially hard. I got very overwhelmed with all the counting and the thinking. Then for me there was the emotional connection to food I had to loosen the strings on. I was pretty cranky at times and suppose I will be again. Just know you will have good days and bad and don't give up!

Someone coming to take my photo tomorrow at work. I want to call in sick! I don't feel like wearing a suit and I bet I can't find one that fits....it will either be way too big or way to small. I stopped buying suits awhile back. I just had one on hand if I had to wear it and now it is too big. I asked the lady who was coming to take it if she was a professional. She emailed me back and said "why?"--I felt like I had insulted her so I told her I was really ugly and I needed someone who knew how to light me! I hope I defused the insult a little. It has nothing to do with her as it did with my anxiety of being photographed.

Cannon! It was the greatest feeling. Even though it was a lucky shot...I danced all around the hole!

Hey, Patty. Thanks for the good luck wishes! Best of luck to you as well.

You're doing great with your exercise!!! YAY for you!!

Good luck with getting your picture taken! I dread the camera too! :(

Pictures are the worst but remember...if you're wearing a suit that's too big for you, although it may not look as good as one that fits...it is too big! which I hope might make you feel good:)

goodluck!! and also, keeping a tracker for dancing sounds like a neat idea. I love dancing at home by myself...and on occasion here at work

Hey we all know how beautiful you are and how awesome you have been doing with your weight loss. Soon you will look back on that picture as what you once looked like...KEEP up the GOOD WORK!!!
