My arms are too skinny!

Ok I am a bit of a beginner so I don't know very much about weights and particular exercises etc.

My arms are very very thin, and look rather weak. I want them to be a little bigger. Not huge , but a bit more chunky. I have been doing bicep curls, as they were on the list that came with my dumbells. When I flex my arm, the bicep bit bulges out, but is still skinny and it only bulges one way, leaving arm still looking very thin. I have recently started doing some tricep exericses, so am hoping to make gains with these. Can anyone help me at all, or point me towards the exercises I need to be doing to get chunkier arm muscles? I would be very grateful for any help at all, as I have had this problem for quite a long time now and it bugs me a lot.

PS - I can't do exercises in a gym, because I am on a rather low budget. Only exercises at home.

can you do chins and dips?

what about squats? hows your diet?

Chin-ups and dips...

Chin up are also called pull-ups where you use a bar and pull yourself until your chin is at the same level as the bar. Depending on how you grip the bar it allows you to work either your biceps or lats (back).

Dips work the antagonist (opposite) muscle: the tricep. A point you mentionned in your post, it's good you started working your triceps cos you can forget having bigger arms if you don't work them as hard as your biceps.
Getting back to the dips, they're a simple exercise that you can do with a bench (if you haven't got a bench, use a chair or your bed). Putting your hands at the edge of the bench/bed/chair, fingers pointed forward, your legs extended in front as if you were sitting in the air with your legs straight. Your upper body should be straight. At this point your arms should be bent at the elbows. Extend your arms trying to use your triceps only and push yourself up in the air. Lower yourself back to the starting positon. That's one rep!
I realise describing it here might make it look difficult but it's in essence a very simple exercise.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the descriptions! they should be a massive help. I am pretty sure I can handle those exercises. Thanks for the links abear, will take a look at them now.

If you want big arms, triceps are the way to go, bro.

I see guys killing themselves in the gym hitting their biceps over and over and then doing very little for triceps. Thats a plan to fail, man. Biceps don't require much and most people over train them which is counterproductive. But the real thing of it is: Biceps are a small muscle. Triceps are much larger in comparison and if you want big arms you have to hit them.

Since you sound like a beginner, go for range of motion exercises. Make sure you go all the way down on the chins and curls.

... but you really want to do more than just arms, man. Get a set of dumbells and a bench and try and hit every muscle group. You'll end up looking like a fool if you skimp on your back, chest, shoulders and legs.

Could you point me towards any of the back, chest, shoulders and legs exercises? I'm assuming that pressups would count as chest exercises.

Thanks for the links :)
