Hey All.

I'm want to subscribe to a music download site, but there are so many I am soooo confused. Do any of you use one? Which ones?

Why are some of them free? What are they giving you? HELP ME, PLEASE!

dependso n what kind of music you like...

I am all about the legal stuff -there are peer to peer places (like soulseek) that aren't quite legal that i won't touch... but the free ones :

For some lesser known bands.. or up and coming bands check - -this has a lot of good stuff, especially if you like non mainstream stuff that you dont always hear on the radio - some bands require you sign up for their mailing list - but that usually just means you get a monthly email with thier perfomances.

also has a huge music secion with tons of different stuff

a good selection of country is here:

If you are any kind of deadhead at all, this site has links to tons of live recordings- the live stuff blows the studio stuff out of the water - I was at a bunch of these shows - the quality isn't 100 percent terrific but the music lives forever

The same site also has tons of live shows, some of bands i've never heard of others I have..

Thanks, Mal. That last one you gave me is hysterical. Some of the band names kill me. I especially like "hanging chad" You've given me lots to check out. I signed up for the MTV site "Urge"--it is not very good. I already cancelled it and my trial period is not even up yet. It has a great selection, but some of the songs are cut up etc.... I think it is in beta for some reason. Could that have something to do with it?

If you are into indy stuff, which I am, emusic.com is the place to go. You get your downloads for about 25 cents each. The have soem mainstream stuff too, like matisyahu, dashboard, white stripes, others.

emusic is actually pretty good... I've had an account there for about 2 years and just recently upped myself to 90 downloads a month.. It's gotten me listening to some stuff that I normally wouldn't have picked - based on their daily free download.. sometimes Ilike what I hear and go back for more...

Some essential downloads from there....

Copeland
Dashboard
Sufjan Stevens
Pedro the Lion

Any suggestions for me?

Here are some different links. Some are better than others.

Mal turned me on to Garageband.com--that is a good one. So is betterPropaganda.
