Muscle soreness and working out

I trained my legs on Monday and was so sore yesterday that it hurt just to walk. This happens occasionally and I didn't do any cardio yesterday to allow my legs to rest. But they are still sore today. Is it bad to work sore muscles? How many days should I wait to train my legs again? Why is it that some days I am more sore than others when the exercises remain the same? So many questions, I know..
 
Definitely wait 3 days to work any muscle group, whether they are sore the next day or not. Muscles only grow during rest, so if you work them the next day or after 2 days, they are not going to grow and get stronger/bigger.
 
One way I've found to lessen the affect of sore muscles after workouts is to stretch and move the muscles and use them in a cardio fashion.
If I'm doing arms and upper body I will go and shoot some hoops for about 30 minutes just to loosen up my upper body, because after I workout my upper body is usually really really tight, this will move the lactic acids around and not allow them to sit and build in your muscles..
Also you can use jump rope for after leg workouts. It will be tough but just go at it slow that way you aren't so sore the next day.
 
Personally I disagree with the 3 days off for any muscle group; unless you are hitting heavy volume in one day (IE Chest on Monday, Back on Tues etc). If you're doing full body workouts and spreading the volume out over a week, 1 day between workouts is all you really need.

When it comes to soreness, i generally won't work a muscle that is really sore. I may touch on it and work through the soreness with some dynamic movements.

What i really wanted to suggest is a homeopathic remedy for muscle soreness and aches. I've had great success through the use of Arnica Montana. It's available at most healthfood stores in pill form for general soreness and ointment for localized. I'll use the pills if i'm sore after a heavy leg workout, and i'll use the ointment if it's just my tricpes for example.
