Moonbeams Thoughs of the Day

So, I started to up my weights! Tuesday I did 50 pounds for my deadlifts! (25 pounds in each arm) and I also started doing below-parallel squats with 16 pounds!(8 each arm)-only 4 at at a time though LOL...and by the last set I can only do 3...but I'll build it up...

My walking lunges I upped to 30 pounds (15 each arm)!!

This is a lot of weight for me and when I'm done I can feel the pain (so to speak)...:)

A friend of mine told me that one of his athlete friends had said that pain was weakness leaving the body.

That is a cool saying! I'm beginning to think that I definitely need to up the weights. Possibly getting as high as 20lbs. it kind of depends. I will have to switch for ea exercise, as for some, even 10lbs is really tough (I know; I'm a wimp. :p ) But yeah, higher/heavier weights for me! :D

Woo Hoo go Wendy. And 10 pounds in each arm is too much for me in my triceps, it all depends on the muscle. 8 in the tricep is heavy for me, I can barely do them, but my biceps I'm up to 15 each arm...see, so it varies

Beamer, that is a bit unusual, biceps stronger than triceps. Normally your "pushing" muscles are a bit stronger than your "pulling" muscles. Do you also find that your pressing exercises are lagging a bit ?? I'm just curious

I push better than I pull. Is that good or bad? I know I need to work on my pull, but I just can't do that much weight wise. Any suggestions?

Not sure what you mean by 'pressing' (sorry) but my triceps have always been SO weak. I can't even do those pushups where you lay your arms really close to your body-I think you use alot of tricep on those right?

On machines (the one you pull down) I put it up to 30 but when it comes to freeweights I can't do more than 8. Generally though I'm your typical girl when it comes to upper body strength, it's virtually non-existant! It was always so embarrasing in high school to be the only one not able to do chin ups or pull ups :(

By pressing, I mean bench pressing, military press, an exercise where you are "pushing" the weight "away" from your body. I'm not really sure what machine you mean when you say the one you pulldown. I can only think of the lat pulldown machine, which is as stated, for your lats (with some assist from your biceps). So that would not involve your triceps at all, Of course you may mean another machine though. When you do your pushups are both your hands and knees on the floor ??

She47441, yes I think it is the norm for your "push" to be a bit stronger than your "pull". I'm not sure what kind of workouts you are doing, but maybe you can try doing lower reps with higher weight one workout and the next workout keep your reps in the 8-12 range. It's hard to say. We're all different, unfortunately, what works for one doesn't always work for another. Trial and error. Be patient (don't mention that word to sparrow, though :) ) and consistent and you'll see results.

Oh, ok. Well, I don't use machines...right now I'm doing strictly free weights. The only time I've used machines was for my legs, I've always done arms with freeweights.

The machine I'm talking about is this one:

To be honest with you I can only do 'girl' regular push ups :(

Okay I know which machine you are referring to now. Actually, you are "pushing" the weight down. Yup those hit the triceps. And I don't mean to use machines, if thats the impression you got. Eff the machines, free weights is the way to go. How many "girl" :) pushups can you do ??

I can do about 10 without compromising my form, I can push myself to 15 but then I feel my form slipping...

No I didn't get that impression, I think you had mentioned that on a previous thread (free weights)

I can't for the life of me do 'men's', I've tried and I go down and stay there LOL
LOL thats okay, stay positive you'll get there. I think you doing push ups is an excellent exercise for you to build up your upper body strength. You are using you chest, shoulder and triceps to perform the exercise and your core to stabilize. Especially since you say you're upper body strength is "non-existent" Keep up the good work :D

I can't do any pushups, maybe one or two. Will try to up the reps and weight next time I workout, but I can't promise 8-12 reps with that much weight. I'll be lucky to do one or two.

WOO HOO back to ya.
