No, I wouldn't try that.

This is always a balancing act and the more goals you throw into the mix, the harder it is to keep the balls in the air. Especially when you have goals that oppose one another.

For instance, being in a steep calorie deficit is going to lead to a reduction in performance over time. That might come in the way of reductions in recovery ability from training, rate of force development or power, absolute strength, endurance, etc. But it'll happen.

Which is why when/if you read Lyle's Rapid Fat Loss, everything is critically specific. Training volume is cut way the hell back. Because the capacity to handle any sort of serious training simply isn't there.

So if you're going to deviate from the exercise guidelines that accompany a psmf by doing more exercise, then it's only logical that you're going to have to eat more.

And I wouldn't toy with any sort of steep deficits very long if your priority right now is to optimize your fighting. I'd be eating to support the advancement/improvement of the various bio-qualities that go into being a good fighter. How much of each depends on what you currently have.

I'm trying to maintain strength levels, so I might need to up the protein later on like you mentioned.

Ideally I'd love to fight around 155... get my body down to maybe 160-165ish and cut to 155. People told me I could cut from my current weight but from my experience I would not be able to handle that at all. I can do 10 lbs fairly safely with diet/cutting water. so I'll stick to that.

How do you feel about L-Glutamine supplements? My multi vitamin has a bit in it, but I doubt it's anywhere near what people use on a daily basis when they lift/train. There's also mixed reviews on how beneficial it is. Seems more like a placebo effect then anything. It's also fairly cheap, so any benefit is better then none.

I wouldn't waste my money on l-glute... take that for what it's worth.

If you're serious into MMA, rather than spending money on a psmf book I'd much sooner buy Joel Jamieson's Ultimate MMA Conditioning. You can find his site at . He has great articles, forum, and the book is the best I've seen out there for fight conditioning.

He's a stand up guy, too.

Trains some of the top names in the game, too.

Wow, thanks. I'm going to buy that when I get paid tomorrow. It's cheap too, only $40. Thanks again.

My gym has been getting better and better. We have a few guys that just entered professional fighting, and there are several that are fighting in amateur leagues. I'm looking into summer of next year to enter amateur. Ample time to get ready and prepared. :)
