Milestones (Amy's diary)

Yep we all know about impatience .
Don´t we just... I´m sure your chili beans weren´t that bad though, were they?

It is so good to hear that I'm not the only impatient one! :rotflmao: Thanks, @Petal001 and @LaMaria !

Yes, there's almost always eggs in my cakes too, Petal - but at a stingier rate than generous Odlums! e.g. the banana loaf I made had two eggs to eight ounces of flour.

Thanks, Emily - I'm feeling very cheerful about conquering the cake-availability threat - or maybe that's hubris? Okay, not conquering cake-availability forever, but this one instance of it - and there's still about a quarter of it left. :) I really do want to get to where I can take it or leave it, and to that end, making a cake every couple of weeks might be a good test, or good training (or of course, good sneaky rationalisation :blush5: ).

And the chilli beans weren't that bad after all - still holding the line, as of this morning's weigh! Though there's @overlandflyer's discomfiting concept of hysteresis (more or less "delayed reaction") which holds that the jump in weight from that hearty and enjoyable meal might yet be coming.

Oh well... on to today, and days to come.
I have a couple of days' travel coming up, with consequent mild eating disruption - I mean travel seems to always mean losing some control of eating possibilities, somewhere along the line. I'll be taking tips from things read here, and be sure to have an emergency stash with me, both in case of hunger on the road, and in case of non-availability of something to eat at the hotel end (packet soups, yay! )
Oh, and my favourite crackers have recently jumped 25% in price, so they're now off the shopping list - and I'm going to see how I go with @Cate's Fantastic Cracker Recipe! My, but this is turning out to be a baking month!

The little shop at work raised coke prices by over 30% on January 1st and I haven't had any since. Sometimes inflation is a savior! Where are you traveling?

I really do want to get to where I can take it or leave it,
Yes I would love to get there with food in general! Like just eating what my body needs and not overdoing things!
Even when i try to do just a little less measuring out of food quantities, i find myself in a state of loss over what amount seems ok! I've got a long ways to go...I`m impressed that you could do the dieting from the beginning without measuring calories, and just sticking with overall awareness of food choices. I wonder if that training from the beginning will make an easier transition/continuation in that regard.

Amy I love cake . I have sort of decided if I am away on a trip ( hee hee as one is forthcoming) that I will allow myself a morning slice of cake with coffee only if its carrot or coffee . I want to be able to enjoy such things on occasions. All baking has ceased here really . Yes get yourself a cool bag and fill it with some healthy snacks . They are a lifesaver .
happy travels

Your banana walnut cake sounds delicious. That's interesting about getting walnuts directly from the grower. I didn't know you could do that. And they are so good for you. They are always high up on those lists of the healthiest foods.

I hope your trip goes well!

Back from tripping, and still, I'm happy to say, holding the line, though only just. I'll be way behind on everybody's diaries, though - I guess it'll take me probably through the weekend to catch up and find where you're all at - pounds and pounds lost, I expect! :)

I was eating quite wildly while away - I mean, I was a guest most of the time, and good-guesting meant some mild difficulties in terms of what I got to eat. Lots of eggs, for one thing, because how else do you cater for a vegetarian? (Five eggs in 36 hours, at one point.) On the other hand, at one meal I was served green beans fresh from the family garden, freshfresh, and they were the best beans I've ever tasted. :)

Anyway - that's the news from me - back, and no change really. :) Now I'd better get on with reading all of what's on the "What's New" section!

I never eat green beans unless I´m at my parents´ place where they´ve always been served < an hour after getting picked... If that´s what you´re used to you just CAN`T do the bought stuff.

Thanks, Liza! Thanks, Rob! LaMa - I'd say these were fresh-picked too. At one stage someone wanted fresh chilli and the response was to run out and pick it direct. :)

Hi Amy glad you are back . I just had 2 eggs for lunch and 2 the other day . Good to see you on the eggs too ! Although hopefully not now you are home . Well done on maintaining , I have maintained too I think as I had other stuff to focus on . Hope you are well x

Good to see you, kittykat! Thanks for the welcome back, gang! :grouphug:

Yes, I'm vegetarian, Em, though obviously not vegan! I used to think I should not eat more than one egg a day, Petal - I think I was concerned about cholesterol? But I've seen so many people here writing that they had two eggs for breakfast etc, that I felt relaxed enough to have two eggs at two different meals - that's how I got to five in 36 hours! :D Yes, I'm pleased about maintaining, Cate - wavering up and down within a two-pound range, but either way below the line set last November!

Today I'm making the Odlum's coffee cake - not sure if I can get the requisite mascarpone cheese, but that's tomorrow's problem, because I'm cooking the cake today, and serving it tomorrow (it'll still be fresh enough, won't it? Or should I leave the cooking to tomorrow morning? Hmmm...
This cake-making is both to thank my hosts (for two days of my absence) by asking them to afternoon tea, and to be part of the Last Hurrah (of eating "normally") before the second dive into deliberate weight loss.
The Last Hurrah runs counter to the virtuous ethos of this site, which holds that there's no time like the present to start any new eating plan, and that anything that's going to be eschewed, like sugar, butter and flour, had better be eschewed at once. But on the other hand - this site also has the wonderful, in fact absolutely vital understanding that we are all different, and so... I'm having the Last Hurrah, before the Next Big Drive. :) I'm thinking that I will define my goals and make a start on or around 11th, to have had three clear months of stasis, of seeing that I can maintain at this (too high) weight, and of working on balance, skin care etc.
Balance, by the way, is slightly better, as measured by how I do with the standing on one leg parts of tai chi - I am wobbling less, and less jerky.

That's true, and I have repeated it many times, kind of a mantra. But as people here (me included) also say every one is different and every path is different. So enjoy that Hurrah!

Its good to have you posting again, I enjoy reading what you write!

Since you aren't planning to give up your Hurrahs completely, just to moderate them, your cake fits the forum ethos perfectly :)
