Milestones (Amy's diary)

:)

There's so much and such various news that it's all a bit dazing. 48.9 in western Sydney. National power grid disrupted. Fire-generated thunderstorms. (Yes, indeed to a bit of light-heartedness.)
As for Weight Loss and Fitness, I'm not ready yet to think about goals in 2020, but I think I will be by month's end. So far, so good, though, in terms of maintenance at around where I was.

I like that you´re sticking with maintenance until you´re truly ready to get going again.

Thanks, everyone, for the support for maintaining! It doesn't have the happy thrill of numbers on a scale going down, but there's always the possibility of noting the numbers of days maintained going up. (I love your more sophisticatedly mathematical approach, @overlandflyer ! Just what WLF needs - even more chance to number-crunch! :p )
Thanks, @LaMaria and @Emilyrose and @Petal001 for the votes for the importance of straight-out maintenance, even if I'm not svelte yet, and probably never will be - it's not the shape I've ever been - and that's okay! (And hugs back, Petal!)
Since the eleventh, anyway, @Cate ! Closing in on two months! :hurray:
I am vaguely pondering goals, @alligatorob - one nearer, one farther off - but I think I need to figure out on what basis I'd like to define a goal. Not wanting to weigh more than the average person engineered for in a lift is probably not the most intelligent way to set a goal!

 True that. You could set a waistline goal (are you below the 35-inch healthy waist thingy?), an endurance goal (being able to walk on even ground for - random number alert - 3 hours without being in pain?), strength (maybe a squat goal because it combines body weight and strength?), or having your favorite food in the house without overeating on it... So many options!

Oh I like the sound of LaMa goals . For me being really happy in a pair of jeans and knowing I am not going to gorge on a cake or sweets .
Take your time Amy . I have a new target set which is 11lbs away . Happy to reach it whenever even if it takes me until next xmas . I just don't want any increases on the way !

Maybe not, but it would make the job of elevator engineering easier. When I was working in Kuwait one of the groups I worked with had a high level office and their elevator had been under designed. It only took 2 or 3 people to set off the overload alarm and stop the elevator, even though it had a car large enough for 5 or 6 people. Didn't give me much confidence in its integrity.

I know that maintenance has to be harder than losing weight, not that I have ever been able to maintain any kind of healthy weight. Not having the reinforcement of what you call "the happy thrill of numbers on a scale going down" has to be a part of it. And it takes a lot longer, the rest of you life. Best of luck finding a way. I look forward to reading about your progress, it will help inspire me to get there one day.

Looking forward to hearing about your new goals, Amy. It's nice to take some time to think them through.

Yes good to take some time to relax and enjoy where you are at!
It is very important for sure to know how to maintain. I really hope that when i get to the place of maintenance I will be able to do it!

Oops... I'm always surprised at how many 80-kg-persons (usually 75 kg in Germany even though Germans are taller on average) would technically be allowed in a given elevator. Certainly there's never a risk of the same number of heavier people squeezing themselves in even with the help of a Tokyo subway shoehorn. And Kuwait has extreme obesity numbers so you'd expect their elevators to be built with a bit of a weight buffer.

...are you below the 35-inch healthy waist thingy?
Oh, LaMa! Not by a long shot! My upper arm measurement seems to have shrunk a little, but my waist is staying stubbornly just where it was. But thanks for the ideas of different metrics. :)

Thanks, @Petal001 ! Great that you have a new goal - and if my arithmetic is right, it looks like you'll be leading the way to the 160s Club! :D

I hope you were able to take the stairs! (A great "incidental" exercise - but not much fun in a high-rise.)
maintenance... takes a lot longer, the rest of your life.
Yes! And I'm cool with that!

Looking forward to hearing about your new goals, Amy. It's nice to take some time to think them through.
Thanks, Cate, and @Emilyrose, too! :) I'm taking at least January, and maybe the first couple of week of February, too.
Yes good to take some time to relax and enjoy where you are at!
Thanks, Liza - I am enjoying it - enjoying taking sometime to reflect on my eating as a whole, including where some of the emotional eating comes from. But also I'm getting to feel real in this changed body - you wouldn't think that just ten kilos would change the shape of parts of me so much - I can clearly see a difference in my ankles and feet. Not, alas, in my waist! (see above, in reply to LaMa. :( )

Re: the dodgy elevator metric - I'm going to check exactly what the sign says tomorrow, and will report back. It never occured to me that it might be different (the average elevator weight) in different countries!

you wouldn't think that just ten kilos would change the shape of parts of me so much
10 kilos is a lot--it has to alter things for sure. Do you find your energy much better with the weight loss?
Not, alas, in my waist!

Yes they say the waist/belly is the last to see the changes. Oh well--it keeps us motivated!

taking sometime to reflect on my eating as a whole, including where some of the emotional eating comes from

I think that's really good to take the time of reflection about the emotional side so that we can find other ways to deal with emotions rather than just using pure will power to force ourselves to not over-eat. Walking's been really good for my emotional state.

Both of those are critical for long-term success if you ask me.

I think you are doing it right Amy . I am very happy to take as long as it takes to lose a little more weight . It’s nice you are reflecting on the why’s and the future in your own time

The ankles and feet is massive! Being able to walk around comfortably is so important. You're doing great Ames. :)
