Milestones (Amy's diary)

Fitting into new old clothes always feels great! I love your lessons and hey: the difference between losing three pounds in a month and gaining them is 6 pounds :) Slow and steady wins the race - not to mention it gives you time to develop skills and habits that'll help you during maintenance.

Being here has reinforced the knowledge that I should treat myself with respect and gentleness – thanks, all those who’ve hit that note in their writings here.
I love this :)
You have become a very supportive & positive member of our community. We do all share & learn from one another. Well done on fitting into that top & also 3 lbs lost is 3 lbs lost. I'm sure there's more of that to come :)

this morning I fitted into a top I’ve had for five years and never fitted into before:)
Feels good doesn't it? Good for you. And losing 3 lbs in a month is not bad, what matters is that you are eating right, the weight will come off.

What is your current weight and goal? I think you started in the 190 club, where are you now?

I have also been fitting into some clothes that I could not have worn a couple of months ago, but I suspect mine are still a whole lot bigger than yours.

Amy, I think you are doing so, so well for just 2 months into this! And 3 pounds a month is nothing to sneeze at - just think what that will add up to over time! I have been losing very slowly, too, and it makes it so I am vigilant about not putting those pounds back on they are so hard won! It's good to hear what you are learning in the forum - I need reminding to do these things, too!

Wonderful fitting in to your aspirational wardrobe - that's such a great feeling!

Thank you, Rob and LaMaria and Cate and Trusylver and alligatorob and Marsia! You are all wonderful encouragers, as well as sources of wisdom! :beating:

Yes, it is great fitting into things that just flatly wouldn't fit before! And I'll hang on to the "slow and steady" thought as hard as I can.
Yes, I started in the 190s club two months ago, and am currently 184.
My goals... I do have longer-term goals than this, but right now the next major goal is getting out of the "obese" category (as measured by BMI) and into plain "overweight", which is nine pounds away. But I'll be noting all the little markers, the milestones, along the way - so for example, I'm just two pounds away from being under thirteen stone, and I can hardly wait! (I'm only giving myself rewards for hitting the major goals, though.)

Which is probably why they used to little. France isn't known for its butter; wonder why they chose French.
I try to stay away from palm oil and hydrogenated any oil and the last three ingredient sets on that list make you wonder why they wouldn't just use proper flour in the first place.
I missed replying to this when you posted it, LaMa! Yes, about the last three sets of ingredients - it sounds really fishy to put so much effort into modifying the basic flour/dough. They taste like such good, simple crackers, too! :(

Hi, Amy. I must try to get my mindset around the feeling of just undoing the damage I have done to myself by regaining already lost weight. Celebrating milestones is a better approach so I am going to try hard to do that. Thanks for helping me to re-think my approach. We can all learn from one another.

No milestones to report, sadly. I'm visiting family again, and once again there's no scales here. (It's interesting to see how reliant I am on seeing those numbers to keep me focussed and motivated.) The trousers I'm wearing are still loose, but that's not much of a guide, and the food I've been eating has been much more haphazard than usual. :( Yesterday a disaster with bread-and-butter and various toppings - so today I'm off bread completely - breakfast was an egg, "omeletted" with bits of tomato and onion, an orange and a small handful of sultanas and peanuts, which I think comes out at around 300 calories?

Plus, I thought to save some trouble by handwashing a few things, and used this household's machine detergent powder to do it - wow! was that a lesson! My hands didn't like it at all, and came out with red sore blotches all over. So I won't be doing that again.

AMY,

Here is a trivial milestone, or fact for you. I just checked and you and Dylan are tied at 112 replies each on your diaries. Of course as soon as I post this you will leap into the lead!

Sorry your hands are so unhappy. Maybe you could pick up some aloe vera to heal them, hopefully? It's really, really hard to stick to a diet eating at other people's houses. I usually bring some of my own food or don't even try. Please don't sweat it too much!!!

Having an omelette for breakfast is a good start! My family-visit- strategy is to skip breakfast and not eat anything after dinner. Plus of course loading up on veggies with every meal, but not everyone is as lucky with their family food as I am.

Thanks, Marsia - I'll give it a try. And thanks, both Marsia and LaMaria, for the cheer-up and encouragement. :)
Part of this particular family visit is cooking for someone else who lives on their own, which means I'm theoretically in control, except I want to make things which satisfy the person I'm visiting, so I make what they call for (and they love it, and call for a lot). The good part is that they don't call for cake or bisuits, but still, I'm spending a lot more time in the kitchen than I do at home - it ought to be easy, but I am very weak when standing there in front of bread, butter and whatever. This morning, breakfast was not so good - porridge with banana sliced up into it (one banana between two), but then bread and toast and vegemite.
But for lunch I'm making fennel and cauliflower soup - if I can only NOT have toast with it, that ought to be all right.

On Wednesday - I'll be back with my scales; I'm really not looking forward to what they'll tell me. :(

Hi Amy, I know what you mean. I tend to fast in the evenings, and my husband in the mornings, so if we don't plan well, I wind up having to cook while fasting, which is a form of slight torture! I hope you can make some foods just for you and maybe make extra for if you get tempted by bread and things!! I am still getting back down to my low weight, which will probably take a couple of weeks, so we can do that together when you get back if you need! :)

That doesn't sound so bad, except maybe for the vegemite. I tried a little vegemite a few years ago and was not much impressed. Maybe it's an acquired taste.

Good luck on the Wednesday weigh in, but no matter the result if you eat healthy things will be fine!

Bread has loads of fibre, which makes you poo! It's been given a very bad name.

I like your posts and devil-may-care attitude, you're doing great.
