Milestones (Amy's diary)

Hi Amy! Love the picture of the squash blossoms - they look beautiful and delectable!! I am in a similar boat hoping to lose but having eaten a little too much with company. I think the main thing is keeping focus on what you want and viewing the maintenance days as a way to restock the body with energy producing foods so the weight loss weeks are not so hard - like Cate said, it's probably healthy to have some maintenance weeks in there with the weight loss weeks!

Hi Amy yes the meal looks fab and yes I'm in Ireland .
My official weigh in is Wednesday night and just to keep a tab on my morning weight I do a Thursday morning at home . Can't wait to be in the 12st again and the 170s but it will happen.
And you don't be disappointed because I have many weeks where I maintain. And to be honest I think it makes it a more sustainable journey .

Thanks, Rob! Under 13 stone is a good feeling. :) As for the picture: I wasn't sure exactly what it was, though I knew it was something in the pumpkinny line, and that it was going to be stirfried and eaten (spoiler: it was!) - but Marsia has identified it as
squash blossoms
so I guess that's what it is/they are.
That's a bugger about not losing weight when you feel that you should have.
Thanks, Cate - it truly was - I felt the disappointment all day. But I've decided to keep my eye on the "four pounds in September" goal instead. I know we can do it. Hugs!
Marsia and Petal - you are both wonderfully sane voices - yes, maintenance weeks, the body adjusting... I do sort of know that, but the knowledge was swamped by my disappointment - so thanks for turning things right way up again! (Four pounds in September, Petal! We can do it!)

We usually dip squash blossoms in egg and a very light batter and fry them. I think they are a Native American dish here.

I feel your pain. I was down 2 more pounds before going to visit relatives, and it's so hard getting the last few pounds off. But no use regretting it, we'll just put extra effort in to our challenges, and this will be water under the bridge!

At least you were still brave enough to get on the scales. I piked on that yesterday & this morning, but really must in the next day or 2! I'm too scared that the weight I lost last week (which I don't think I mentioned anywhere) may have gone back on at the weekend & that would make me even crabbier with myself!

Congrats on your promotion to forum poet! I am sure that carries a big raise, along with the many honors.

You will continue to lose weight, you are eating right, you have to. Did you say that you did not lose weight overnight? I weigh a lot (that is true, but the word frequently might have been better here) and almost always lose weight from just before bed to first thing in the morning, not to would be unusual.

Thanks for the picture ID, Marisa was sharp to figure it out.

Good gracious! I’ve been appointed as Poet! :blush5:
I accept with great pleasure – so let’s break out the Moët
& Chandon – at only some ninety-odd calories
our diets can take it (though perhaps not our salaries).
Cheers, my friends! If ever you want a quick rhyme,
Just ask, and I’ll write one - any place, any time!

Thank you, kind friends!! :beerchug:

That sounds like a tempura? An idea to keep for next time I see them on sale, maybe!
I'm really interested in the business of the last few pounds being the hardest to shift - I'm not looking forward to it, either, though I've got a good way to go before the "last few pounds"!
... One day at a time everyone or even one meal at a time .
:iagree: For sure!

Cate - I just read in another diary someone appreciating the word "squiz" in your post - I love "hearing" your voice here, partly because it's words I know - in this case, "pike" and "crabby". :) But don't be crabby with yourself - you are terrific, and you manage to keep the most beautiful equilibrium in your life, even when social obligations and other things make life a bit rocky. And as for
still brave enough to get on the scales.
sometimes I think I hop on the scales a bit too obsessively.

Rob - thank you for the congratulations - I'll be putting the raise towards buying champagne all round! ;) And thanks for the encouragement. Yes, it was odd not to lose any weight at all overnight; I can't figure it out. But as I just said to Cate, maybe I shouldn't be checking the scales quite so much anyway.

Around here people batter and fry elder flowers - which basically means you're eating lightly flavored batter.

The title "forum poet" was voted on :D & it is obviously a fitting title after seeing this-

I love poetry, especially rhyming poetry. I think I use more Australian words when I am communicating with you & other Australians, but sometimes throw things into my diary that I know people won't have heard before, just for the fun of it. I just love language & the nuances between cultures.
I love Moet too & Mumm Cordon Rouge, but also enjoy a Henkell Trocken as my more affordable bubbles. Give it a try. BWS almost always have it on special. The 200 ml piccolos are a good buy & great for Summer bbq's/picnics.

LOL! Sounds interesting, but not especially nutritious! :D

I know the names of Moët & Chandon and Mumm's more than the taste, Cate! (Rats!) Thank you for the tip about Henkell Trocken - summer picnics with bubbles sound wonderful. I like poetry too - and language generally, come to that. (including regional variations!)

Congrats Amy on your title of poet :)
Thanks, Petal! :)

Can I add a recommendation of my personal favorite sparkly: Veuve Clicquot? I haven't had champagne in ages but that's one I genuinely enjoyed.

I love this.

Mumm Cordon Rouge is our anniversary bubbly and that is only because we went out to a fancy restaurant in Melbourne for our first wedding anniversary & his boss who owned a wine store just happened to be there as well on the night & had the waiter bring us a half bottle of Mumm. We couldn't afford a bottle every year. Henkell is something I always have in the fridge.
More poetry anytime please :D

Veuve Cliquot, Mumm Cordon Rouge, Henkell.. I've actually never gone more upmarket than Yellowglen.
But ah-ha! Now, thanks to wonderful WLF I am all set with recommendations - and I jolly well think I'll act on them! Not right this minute, but when I have something to celebrate - in fact, it wouldn't be a bad thing to stock up soonish, so as to be ready to go, when the need to celebrate strikes, yes?

Henkell's very affordable around here and you don't need a second mortgage for Veuve Clicquot either. Financially, for everyday consumption my best bet over here would be a properly dry prosecco.

Well, they say Friday the 13th is lucky for some, so you never know!
