when someone else is footing the bill, it shouldn't be that easy.. i'd like to have a beautiful nose and chin and perky boobies,and have the wrinkles around my eyes go away -and i'd like to have someone else pay for it - but that's not gonna happen... bariatric surgery isn't elective surgery... it really should be an option only when all other means have been exhausted and in this woman's case -she has proven she can lose weight -BUT she doesn't want to make the effort to keep it off.

it's in scotland - she expects it to be covered under their national healthcare... however, i'd be willing to bet that the year long program they want to put her in - would be covered...

yeah, I enjoy moore's films. But the "well they're lying, so i'm gonna lie back at them" approach opens up otherwise sound arguments. I mean, he could've made a movie showing how bad the health care system is in the states. Instead, he did that, but also exaggerated how good all the other health care systems are, when really they also have serious problems.
therefore, people can come along and say 'hey that's a lie! that movie didn't tell the truth", thus undermining the fundamentally true theme of the movie, giving his opponents a free pass to shoot the whole thing down.

I love knowing that if my kids are sick i dont ever have to worry about paying for hospitals or anything. I mean my brother atm is up for this kidney, i dunno how much that would cost over in the states, but its free here... and thats weight off my mind and my body

Don't make observations any longer. What your "suggesting" is medically improbable and likely impossible.

However, I don't believe its the governments right to decide what we can and can not do to our own individual body. I believe she placed her self in this position and whats a "quick fix" that in reality is not so "dreamy" anyway. If she wants it she should be able to have it, that is likely one of the greatest freedoms we are supposed to have.

There are definitely genetic differences in people's metabolism, etc. The people who can eat anything they want and not exercise and not gain weight are lucky--and there aren't many of them out there. That doesn't mean they're healthy, though. Most of us have to watch what we eat and regularly exercise in order to lose weight or maintain. I think there are very few extreme cases where it is physically and medically impossible for a person to lose weight without surgery.

I know lots of people who've had gastric bypass surgery, and more than half of them have gained all the weight back within a couple of years of the surgery. If the person doesn't change the lifestyle that got them into the situation in the first place, then gastric bypass surgery will make them slim for a year tops. It is probably a waste of taxpayers' money. If your friend is so serious about this, why doesn't she just take the frickin' class that they want her to?

I have experienced first hand the health care systems of the UK, South Korea, and Australia. And I can say that the cost for all three is far more cheaper than in the States, and the quality of the care in the UK and Australia was equal in quality to that in the US. South Korea wasn't far behind. The newer hospitals there are great.
