Today is the day! Today is the beginning of the new ME!
My current weight is the highest I've ever weighed in my life. I was thin all through my childhood up until my late teens. I gained about 30 lbs but managed to lose it all again. A few years later I had my son, and then just proceeded to gain and gain and gain. I was 130lbs when I got pregnant. Now, 5 years later I am at my highest weight, 185lbs. I have been a stay at home mom and a lot of my weight gain has been caused by my snacking when I am bored or stressed.

My weight loss goal is to lose 50 lbs. That will bring me down to 135 lbs. I have always been taught that losing 2lbs or so a week is a healthy way to lose weight. This is my plan. This is my goal. I hope to lose at LEAST 8 - 10 lbs by halloween. That allows me to lose 2 lbs or so a week and then some.

I don't believe that fad diets work long term. My plan is to eat smaller portions, of healthier foods. More fruits and veggies, less white bread, pasta and rice and eat whole wheat varieties instead. My biggest challenge believe it or not will be to drink more water. Food and eating have always been my biggest issue. I have always managed to keep active thoughout the day but I do plan on walking or bike riding at least 30 min a day, 5 days a week. I managed to do this last fall and did very well...at least until the freezing weather arrived :(

I am hoping this forum will help me achieve my goals. My biggest struggle will be my roomate. She is the most unhealthy eater I have ever met. It will be a constant challenge to make healthier choices when there will be so many unhealthy foods available. I MUST BOOST MY WILL POWER!

How realistic do I think my goal is? I think it's pretty realistic and healthy. Slow and steady wins the race. I want to acheive the weight loss yes, but it's all wasted time and effort if the lbs don't STAY off!

Hi meljamc!
Welcome to the WLF and to your diary!

Congratulations on reclaiming control and doing what you need to do to reach your goal!

Your plan sounds *very* healthy and reasonable :D

Best of luck to you on this journey!

Day 1 is over..well almost.

I did very well today. Ate smaller portions at meal times (except breakfast..oops) and ate a variety of veggies at lunch and dinner. Had whole wheat pasta with a tiny bit of sauce, topped with veggies. I did snack today but I chose yogurt and fruit instead of cookies or chips. Yea for me!
I went for an hour long bike ride as well. It was a beautiful day to be out.

My goal for tomorrow is to bike ride again or walk for at least 30 min AND drink more water. I didn't do very well regarding water today but....
Tomorrow is a new day! :D

It was a beautiful day wasn't it? Make sure you have a plan for when this freezing weather comes again!! I think my plan is to go straight to the gym after work. That means getting a gym bag and a locker, but nothing says staying warm like a good workout!

I've been thinking of things to do indoors in the winter too...I do exercise videos at home, and they have once a week yoga and aerobics at our Community Hall that I'm thinking about joining.

Good luck, sounds like you're off to an awesome start!:)

Day 2 and doing well.

I had a bowl of Oatmeal for breakfast.
Yogurt for snack and Chicken soup for lunch.

It's only noon and I have had 3 BIG glasses of water! Hurray for me!!

I get excited when a new thread bust out with this kind of dialog. You are so going to enjoy your new skinny self once again.

You should print your quote and put on your fridge, purse, tattoo it on your forehead if you have to, :p just keep handy everyday for times of weakness.

not a good day

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Today is not so great. I have some kind of stomach bug so I can't seem to keep anything down. Not that I have much of an appetite anyway. On the plus side... I have been drinking lots of water today. :)

I have been trying to read some diaries of others but holy scmoly there are a lot of them!! lol How do you all keep up?!

Hi meljamc!

Don't worry about catching up on so many diaries - and certainly don't try and go back and read some of the chattier ones ;) Mine included! That is way too daunting a task!

My computer is in the kitchen, so it's easy for me to pop in, read a few diaries, pop over and do some laundry, come back, read a diary etc. but when I'm busy outside the house, then I just catch them as I can.

Sometimes life gets too busy and that's the way it *should* be.

Sorry to hear about the stomach bug - I hope it passes quickly and you're doing the best thing you can, drinking WATER!!

I'm glad you're here :D
