Mat for abs-work out

How should I work out on my abs, on the hard floor or on the mat or what? What mat would you recommend to buy? I'm not sure which type of mat I should go for so help me out please?

i doubt it really matters, but if u really need a cushion on ur back, just buy a mat that is grippy yet soft & comfortable

Well.....you haven't answer my question if it is best to do it on hard floor without mat or any other way to do it?

i prefer having a mat, but thats me,

the floor where i workout at are often dirty lol

Are you doing abs at home? I also recommend using medicine balls, big purpleballs, and declines for training abs and obliques.

The swiss ball has been shown in research to allow you to work your abs much better than on a mat or floor. I think this is because of the flexibility the ball gives toward a greater concentric range.

and of course,

there are a variety of workouts for both, on the mat and on the swiss ball.
changing up the exercises every 2-3 weeks would be a good idea :]

I do conventional crunches on a swiss ball, but I do reverse crunches on the floor. It seems natural enough and a lot easier on the back (which I need to be careful of until it gets stronger).

There is something else that is used in NROL, lateral swiss ball rolls, which look interesting. I hope I don't roll too far over, though.:)

Otherwise, I'm a bit undecided about the swiss ball. I may use it for push-ups eventually.

heh i've used it for pushup, *works the core quite well* and its quite a workout. hah. i've yet to master the 1 hand pushup though :]

why not do standing versions? they're more useful in real life...how oten do yuo do a "crunch" in reality?...SB's allow you to further in the range of motion than the floor which is where the abs are placed in their stretched position and increases the use of the lower abs more so than floor crunches which are rubbish really

i don't think it matters bet. a towel and a cushion......
