Martin Katahn's Rotation Diet?

The only way to get the results this diet can produce is to follow it exactly!!! Maybe we could split off into two groups: 1) those who do want to follow it exactly; and, 2) those who don't? Group #1 could be called BTB ( for 'by-the-book'), and group #2 -- well they can choose any name they want, of course (maybe MRD for 'modified Rotation Diet'?). Is there anyone who does want to follw it exactly?

Of course you're right momma, the Rotation Diet is only the Rotation Diet if you follow it exactly, though Dr Katahn says (at least in the new edition that just came out) that if you need to you can increase the calories to what you are able to adhere to e.g. use the men's calories, etc. I don't mean by my last post that what I suggested is still the rotation diet, you're right it's not. I was just trying to sneak my way in to keep posting here :) I did follow the rotation diet exactly for three weeks, and i did lose 7.4 pounds doing that. Maybe the only thing I did a little differently was working out intensely every other day rather than a gentle walk every day that he suggested.

While I wish everyone here all the luck in the world with their efforts to lose weight, I feel I must find some other avenue (if one exists!?) to find -- and, give -- support to those who want to use the Rotation Diet. If I am to stay motivated, once I start, I need to be able to touch base on a daily basis with others who are going through the same thing I am -- and, this forum does not seem to offer that. Again, good luck to everyone & good-bye. (To those who actually follow the RD program as it is intended -- including the type and duration of excercise prescribed -- you do not need any 'luck' becuase I can personally gaurantee you it will work exactly as it says it will!!!)

I tried the rotation diet about 10 years ago. The first 2 rotations I didn't do very strictly, but still managed to lose some weight. After that I buckled down and did better, except every 5th week I called it my eating week and had whatever I wanted without looking at calories. Within a year I had gone from 256 lbs to 140. A coworker convinced me to switch to her diet, she was on the Adkins diet. That was the biggest mistake of my life. I tried the Atkins diet for about 6 months without losing any more weight. When I finally gave up, I noticed I was in such of habit of having tons of cheese and eggs, and whipping cream in my coffee. After that the weight came back rather quickly. If I would have stayed on the rotation diet until I reached my goal weight of 125, I would have been way more disciplined. A friend of mine who is a nurse asked my what my diet is. When I explained it, he got it right away. He told me that the constant changing of the calories tricks your body in not slowing down with the metabolism--unlike other diets where you cut your calories down and keep them down over the course of the diet. It has taken me the last 10 years to finally be motivated enough to try the rotation diet again. I am on the 2nd day of my 3rd week. Is it hard? Of course it is. Is it impossible? No. From past experience, I have discovered that the 600 calories days are easier if I follow the menu in the book. Once again, I plan on making my 5th week every rotation my eating week.

Bye bye momma and welcome keephoping. It's true there don't seem to be many regular posters on this thread. I "fell off the wagon" on my earlier attempt in 2012 so must begin again. I shall try to post more regularly and hope to read about lots of success from anyone else on the plan.

Here on day 2 I was pleasantly surprised to complete day 1 without being ravenous. I felt very good this morning - makes me wonder why I used to dread eating less so much. Dr. Oz recommends choosing one meal and having the same thing each day so I am going to make breakfast that meal. I'll have yogurt each morning and can vary the fruit to keep from boredom. But for today I stuck with apple. Went grocery shopping this morning and didn't feel hungry though lunch was late. I'm using self-talk to change my mindset. When I am confronted by tempting foods I say "Even the thought of eating something that is not good for me reminds me of my own winning healthiness". Throughout the day I remind myself "Whether eating in or eating out I really enjoy eating less".

This is the first day of my second rotation. My daughter gets married in 12 days and I've lost 21 pounds so far. It will be a challenge to stick with 1200 calories for her wedding day. I probably will make an exception for that day. I wish I was at 179 pounds, but I know by the summer I should be. Right now I'm at 230. A co-worker is starting this today. She wants to lose 30 pounds for her son's wedding in August. I hope the support will help me. Unfortunately, I've never been good with "diet buddies" because they usually try to get me to cheat once they cheated. Wish me luck

Wow Keephoping! Congratulations on the 21 pounds gone. I'm happy that we can do this rotation together and I'll try not to be like your "buddies" that try to get you to cheat with them. I'm impressed by how much you lost before and I'm sure you can repeat that success.

Yesterday I asked my husband if he wanted to diet with me and he suddenly thought about cookies and ice cream, later had to have some chips. Tonight he was eating almonds but I resisted and only ate one.

I was somewhat hungry, but not ravenous last night. Today we will be eating at Taco Bell so I did some research to see what to order. I love the grilled chicken burrito at 430 calories but today I'll go for the fresco chicken supreme burrito at 350 calories instead. Down another pound - of course that's water weight but I'm glad to be rid of it. Katahn says the human body is 72 % water.

Rainbow swiss chard

Second day of six hundred calories. I am hungrier than normal, but only because I am trying to save my calories for tonight. It is my daughters wedding shower and I want to have a slice of cake so all I've had so far is a packet of instant oatmeal at 150 calories. If I manage to get a nap in at least during that time I won't be tempted to nibble. Thanks for the encouragement Aloe:)

You're welcome and hope you were able to enjoy the wedding shower Keephoping. 600 calories doesn't give you much leeway for cake - I don't think I could match your dieting fortitude! Don't forget about those free vegetables though - and safe fruit. I am thrilled to have completed the first 3 days and enjoyed 300 more calories today.

My three days of 600 calories are behind me and 900 feels sooooo good. Discovered the 6" veggie delight sandwich at Subway for only 230 calories. Works great for lunch! I've been trying to stick faithfully to the amount of calories per day and not having a "safe fruit" because I want to lose the most by my daughters wedding. After the wedding (which is in 8 more days) I plan on using that safe fruit if I really need it. So far the "free veggies" are what's been saving me. My co-worker is doing incredibly well so far. This is her 5th day, but she claims she's not as hungry as she thought she would be. She has been having her safe fruit and free veggies every day. I'm happy to have a "diet buddy". I think she's the one that will keep me motivated to stick with it after the wedding. Good luck aloe!

Nothing like an upcoming event where you want to look good to motivate a person, Keephoping. Sounds like you and your diet buddy are both doing great.

I'm plugging along here finishing up day 6. One thing I like about dieting is I eat much healthier, avoiding sugars and fats and enjoying lots of vegetables and fruits. (Although I do put honey in my yogurt)

Weight: 178

Breakfast: yogurt, grapes, and bran cereal

Lunch: Triscuits and cheese, carrots and hummus

Snack: salad with cottage cheese

Supper: turkey potato pea curry

Hello everyone! It has been forever since I have been on here. Just reading some of the posts. Sorry to see that 1fatmomma has decided to end her time here. I was going to tell her that I don't even want to try to modify the calories in my rotation. I have been "experimenting" with some things. Since I work the graveyard shift, it is hard for me to have the three meals at traditional hours. I have tried eating breakfast when I got up from sleeping, then having lunch before I go to work, then dinner on my lunch break. I have tried eating breakfast at my lunch break, lunch when i get up and then dinner before I go to work....but sometimes I don't get up till six in the pm and then if I eat lunch when I get up, then I am eating dinner right before I go to work at 11pm. Seems like that doesn't work for me. Maybe I should have breakfast when I get home from work, lunch when I get up from sleeping, and then dinner on my lunch at work...But then I would have to eat my safe fruit while working....my brain is tired! That is what I am having a hard time with. I made it through a week of a rotation then "life" got the best of me. I have gone to Zumba at my local club and LOVED it! They do "black light" Zumba where they put up black lights everywhere and blacked out the windows...very neat! Plus there is just enough "light" to see where you are going. If you wear a white shirt, you shine in the dark!

I love the Rotation Diet and need to make it a PRIORITY!!! That is all there is too it..I was feeling pretty good. I was noticing the other day when I was hugging my son, he is getting a little chunky. If I fix the same thing for both of us, he can eat what I eat but modify it to his liking with more vegetables or chicken. But we would both be eating healthier! I have made the chicken divan from the recipie section and it DIVINE! and to think the sauce is made with yogurt! I also need to PRIORITIZE the fact I need to come on here everyday and share with you all my results. That is what makes a support group great. If no one responds, that is o.k because at least I will keep myself grounded as to my goals.

I like adding seasonings to my veggies...I try different spices I have in my cupboard and if I see one at the store that might look good, I will buy it to try. I still like my veggies steamed and have tried the Steamers in the frozen food section. Not too shabby...especially when fresh produce is out of season.

Well, I am off to bed this morning. Looking forward to starting up a new rotation, one where I can stick with it. If anyone has any suggestions on when I should eat, that would be great! Still trying to find a "schedule" that will work for me....

Thanks in advance for the support and suggestions!

I'm down 25 pounds as of this morning!! Yahoooooo! One more week till my daughters wedding. The exciting part was having to order a smaller size dress. I ordered a dress and when it came in it was too big, so I ordered another one a size smaller. Still don't have time to work out till after the wedding.

Great results Keephoping, and welcome back Funkyonions! As far as the eating schedule goes, I would think breakfast would be the best thing to eat after waking up, no matter the time of day because it's usually quick and easy to fix. Then, because the supper menu contains more items that are less transportable, you might want to have that before you go to work because you'd have time to cook. Then you could take the lunch items like salad or sandwich (mmm - 6" veggie sub!) easily to work and have your safe fruit for a snack after work before bed.

I've finished day 7 of the first week - looking forward to adding another 300 calories tomorrow.

Weight: 178

Food consumed: corn spaghetti, broccoli, apple, lowfat icecream, whole wheat bread, and a few almonds and walnuts

Day 8 - planned to have 1600 calories; you think that would be enough of an increase but some cravings got the best of me.

Weight: 177

Breakfast: yogurt, fruit and granola

Lunch: Spanish millet, salad

Snack: walnuts and orange, 2 slices bread

Supper: red lentil vegetable soup

Snack: radishes, hummus, popcorn

1775 calories

Day 9 I was surprised to see my weight down another pound this morning. Now just four pounds away from my goal weight of 172. I am confident I can be successful since I believe plenty of fiber really is the solution to the hunger problem. I've always eaten whole grains and lots of fruits and vegetables but adding the bran cereal in the morning has really made a difference.

Weight: 176

Breakfast: grapes, yogurt and bran buds, 2 T. walnuts

Lunch: tuna rice casserole

Snack: grapefruit and whole wheat bread

Supper: spinach rice burgers

Down 28 pounds so far!! My co-worker just finished her first week and lost 7 pounds. I think both of us are motivated to continue!. How have you been doing funkyonion? I worked graveyard for 3 months and hated it. Now I start at 4am. It's kind of challenging on when to eat with those hours also..I tend to eat breakfast on my first break at 6:30 and my lunch on my last break at 11:00. My only problem is I want to have a snack when I come home and if I don't, I have a hard time to make it till dinner at 4:30 when my husband gets home. I really can't afford a snack at 600 calories. I tend to keep a box of instant oatmeal in my locker at work and plenty of lean cuisines in the freezer since I sleep till the last minute and run out of the house without anything. Prior to this diet, breakfast would be a breakfast sandwich from McDonalds and lunch would be something from a fast food place. I know the lean cuisine is high on sodium, but I figure its better than a fast food place.
