Why the ***** hasnt anyone posted a picture of the undisputed greatest bodybuilder of all time(ahhhnold!) smoking a doob yet? Read his book, ahhhnold used to smoke a few hits of the chronic before his workouts, by my standards, I'd say in no way did it negatively effect his performance.

you can still train and stay fit when you smoke canabis, but I bet you'll soon give up. C'mon, smoking only makes you wanna stay in bed n chill out all day! :p I bet you - sooner or later you will stop exercising :p

Misinformed Meatheads!!

Hey brother,

Great question you asked, I'm here to tell you that there is no right or wrong answer you must trust what your body tells you "I" have personally been smoking marijuana daily for about 7 years now and I'm an experienced combat athlete Muay thai, Krav Maga for about 11 years now. I train every single day and let me tell you I'm no genetic freak, I train very very hard my conditioning is absolutely astonishing. So here is my story about 5 years ago I started smoking pot every night because I realized it helped me with my sleep problems waking up every hour on the hour not being able to fall back asleep. But when I started smoking before bed id wake up in amazing moods more energy feeling completely rested and ready for a brutal day of training it has helped me as far as sleep and happiness. I don't smoke during the day usually unless it's a relaxing kind of day or I'm feeling extra sore and want to relax watch t.v, or read a book. No it hasn't made me a lazy person!!! so ask yourself how you feel before you come on here and get a bunch of egotistical meat heads that thrive off thinking they are as perfect as Jesus Christ. So be happy bro if it works for you great, if not just don't do it listen to your body it wont lie. As for everyone else with a negative answer I wish you all the best on your quest to right about everything, and your life without mistakes it must be nice to be enlightened in every moment of your pathetic lives!! out.

Hey dude why don't u use the help of Vaporizers to smoke ,i recently bought a Easy Vape Vaporizer from
I think u can give a try over this........

I've just recently started smoking marijuana again, and I'm wondering if it'll hurt my exercise progress. I mean the actual smoking part, not the additional food consumption.

I know smoking and working out seems pretty counter productive, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. So far it's not hurt my motivation any, which was my biggest concern. I'm still working out every day.

:cool2: <-- couldn't resist. XD

My brother recently started smoking again and has gained about 10 pounds since. I'm not sure if is related to the food intake or changes in his exercise program.

However, to each his own.

Change is the only constant!

Your Body Doenst LIE!!

This is my personal story of how weed can either help you (ALOT) or hurt you. And I think that my buddy JoeJoe couldn't be more right: Your body doesnt Lie! So read it and hopefully it can help all of you guys that still don't know if MJ is "good" for you or not. If there are some grammar mistakes, pardon me but I'm not from the US and english is my second language:

So ive been smoking for like 6 months now. At first I used MJ for recreational purposes; playing PS3, chillin with friends, eating the most delicious foods ever :O, and sometimes even mixing it with alcohol in parties (had a pretty bad result one time LOL).. I didnt work out and whenever I smoke, i just wanted to chill or watch tv or hang out with friends etc.

So i had a pretty great time but I felt that something was missing, I had already like 10-15 lbs overweight cause of the damn munchies and during that period of time, I also had realize that MJ wasnt just to enjoy doing fun stuff but also to increase ur intellectual and knowledge about everything, even the most tiny things in life seemed to be somehow relevant and important. So I decided to learn more bout MJ and well one of my interests was exercising. Started talking to some friends that have been smoking for years and also exercising and doing different kinds of extreme sports (surfing, skiing, etc) and every one of them had one thing in common: they smoke weed, mostly b4 and/or after exercising. I was a little skeptical bout it cause "it didnt make a lot of sense" and i quote it because i have read like 1000 times in this thread that. So in order to get rid of that doubt, i decided to try it and guess what: It was amazing, I felt every single muscle in my body working out, your concentration and mental strength couldn't be better and my lung capability didn't affect me at all; heck it even help me to concentrate better in every inhale and exhale and my performance increase significantly overall.

So, if you are not sure if smoking MJ b4 working out is good or not, try it and trust me when i tell you this: your body doesn't lie, it'll tell you if its working or not. For me its working perfectly, im doing P90X, an extreme work out program, 6 days a week, YOGA X twice a week (trust me its the best workout there is. Period) and I haven't feel better in my life. I'm not saying that itll work for everyone cause we are all different and some people might not like the feeling or might feel weak or tired but for me its all in your brain. Best of luck for all of you guys that smokes the revolution drug and are doing good things with your life with that wonderful tool and better luck to all of those that haven't had that epiphany in life bout it and still have that one sided mind that thinks that because its a "drug", its bad or because its "illegal" its worse. You of all people should know that its all mind games coming from very greedy and powerful people that wants to control all the variables by defaming MJ as a virus instead of a cure and messing up with people morality.

And for all of those people posting stories bout how MJ could have affected their lives or that 2 17 yr old kids died in a crash accident because they were "high" etc etc, please stop. Your making yourself look very very dumb and ignorants. A stupid kid that smokes weed is still a stupid kid. A killer that smokes weed its still a killer. A rapist that smokes weed is still a rapist. A loser that only smokes weed is still a looser in the real life. MJ is more than just getting high and being stupid, hell your defaming weed if youre only doing that. MJ is a path for greater knowledge in life, a better perspective for everything. Its up to you if you want to be a pothead or make a difference in the world. If not , ask my good friend MICHAEL PHELPS, winner of 8 gold medals and world record breaker. HECK IM 99% SURE THAT HE TRAINS STONED! haha... Also you can check vids in youtube of Joe Rogan bout his perspective bout weed and other drugs. Pretty interesting stuff.

I know it was a long thread, but if you read it, hope it help someone in someway. Also, for your own good and spiritual beliefs, please here some Matisyahu once in a while, his music is just inspiring, hes a prophet divulging the word of God.

Did you sign up to the site just to advice people to smoke pot before they work out?

Hmmm Nope. I post to help people that had or has some of the same questions I had bout mixing weed with exercise because Im doing it atm and I thought my personal experience would answer some of those questions.I didnt write this to try and persuade people to start smoking weed or mix weed with exercice, just my opinion. Rather you find it intersteting or not, I dont care at all.

Again, my post was intended for people who smokes weed and/or have questions bout Marijuana and exercise as the Thread says. Obviously you dont smoke weed for what im reading so youll never understand some things I try to explain in the post and never will. Is lke trying to convince a catholic to consider another religion.

A greater life? A greater perspective of life.. but that depends on each person.

And yes I started smoking MJ for the fun and the munchies and the laughs and PS3 and everything but as I stated, i soon realize that it was greater than all of that.

Anyways, my point was not to convince anyone to try it, just to give you my personal experience on MJ + Exercice and for me, it has work out great.

Ok here it is, if you aren't high when you workout, then it won't affect you at all,

just smoke weed when your not working out.

And too all you retards out there, MARIJUANA is not addictive, and it won't affect your fitness unless you are high during your training sessions.

Man half the people who think they know what they are talking about havn't even smoked weed before.

Please don't give him suggestions if your ignorant and don't even know what weed is.

kthx

^ The actual smoke filtering through the lungs, regardless of whether it's tobacco, marajuana or campfire, does damage to the lung tissue. I'm told* that most people who smoke marajuana do so <1/day, compared to tobacco-smokers who do so several times a day, so in that regard immediate lung damage would likely be less than a tobacco-smoker, but if you did smoke marajuana longterm, I suspect you would reduce respiratory function and thus reduce cardiovascular performance. So in all probability, smoking marajuana would have an impact on fitness. But I do agree with your initial point - don't train while high. I have a friend who tried training while high once. It was a sad sight.

* This is not a statistical statement, just what people tell me. I make no claims to the accuracy of such statements about how often people smoke pot.

Can the public please stop being so ignorant about marijuana?

I would like to help clear up some of the myths about smoking pot. The biggest problem with marijuana is that way too many I've heard this and I've heard thats have been developed, but no one ever actually goes and looks at the evidence and the numerous BIAS studies performed on marijuana usage. Yes I understand it's a drug and yes I understand there are some harmful effects, but compared to almost every other drug, including caffeine, alcohol, and smoking cigarettes, it's less addictive/habit forming.

MARIJUANA MYTHS

by Paul Hager

Chair, ICLU Drug Task Force

1. Marijuana causes brain damage

The most celebrated study that claims to show brain damage is the rhesus monkey study of Dr. Robert Heath, done in the late 1970s. This study was reviewed by a distinguished panel of scientists sponsored by the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences. Their results were published under the title, Marijuana and Health in 1982. Heath's work was sharply criticized for its insufficient sample size (only four monkeys), its failure to control experimental bias, and the misidentification of normal monkey brain structure as "damaged". Actual studies of human populations of marijuana users have shown no evidence of brain damage. For example, two studies from 1977, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) showed no evidence of brain damage in heavy users of marijuana. That same year, the American Medical Association (AMA) officially came out in favor of decriminalizing marijuana. That's not the sort of thing you'd expect if the AMA thought marijuana damaged the brain.

2. Marijuana damages the reproductive system

This claim is based chiefly on the work of Dr. Gabriel Nahas, who experimented with tissue (cells) isolated in petri dishes, and the work of researchers who dosed animals with near-lethal amounts of cannabinoids (i.e., the intoxicating part of marijuana). Nahas' generalizations from his petri dishes to human beings have been rejected by the scientific community as being invalid. In the case of the animal experiments, the animals that survived their ordeal returned to normal within 30 days of the end of the experiment. Studies of actual human populations have failed to demonstrate that marijuana adversely affects the reproductive system.

3. Marijuana is a "gateway" drug-it leads to hard drugs

This is one of the more persistent myths. A real world example of what happens when marijuana is readily available can be found in Holland. The Dutch partially legalized marijuana in the 1970s. Since then, hard drug use-heroin and cocaine-have DECLINED substantially. If marijuana really were a gateway drug, one would have expected use of hard drugs to have gone up, not down. This apparent "negative gateway" effect has also been observed in the United States. Studies done in the early 1970s showed a negative correlation between use of marijuana and use of alcohol. A 1993 Rand Corporation study that compared drug use in states that had decriminalized marijuana versus those that had not, found that where marijuana was more available-the states that had decriminalized-hard drug abuse as measured by emergency room episodes decreased. In short, what science and actual experience tell us is that marijuana tends to substitute for the much more dangerous hard drugs like alcohol, cocaine, and heroin.

4. Marijuana suppresses the immune system

Like the studies claiming to show damage to the reproductive system, this myth is based on studies where animals were given extremely high-in many cases, near-lethal-doses of cannabinoids. These results have never been duplicated in human beings. Interestingly, two studies done in 1978 and one done in 1988 showed that hashish and marijuana may have actually stimulated the immune system in the people studied.

5. Marijuana is much more dangerous than tobacco

Smoked marijuana contains about the same amount of carcinogens as does an equivalent amount of tobacco. It should be remembered, however, that a heavy tobacco smoker consumes much more tobacco than a heavy marijuana smoker consumes marijuana. This is because smoked tobacco, with a 90% addiction rate, is the most addictive of all drugs while marijuana is less addictive than caffeine. Two other factors are important. The first is that paraphernalia laws directed against marijuana users make it difficult to smoke safely. These laws make water pipes and bongs, which filter some of the carcinogens out of the smoke, illegal and, hence, unavailable. The second is that, if marijuana were legal, it would be more economical to have cannabis drinks like bhang (a traditional drink in the Middle East) or tea which are totally non-carcinogenic. This is in stark contrast with "smokeless" tobacco products like snuff which can cause cancer of the mouth and throat. When all of these facts are taken together, it can be clearly seen that the reverse is true: marijuana is much SAFER than tobacco.

6. Legal marijuana would cause carnage on the highways

Although marijuana, when used to intoxication, does impair performance in a manner similar to alcohol, actual studies of the effect of marijuana on the automobile accident rate suggest that it poses LESS of a hazard than alcohol. When a random sample of fatal accident victims was studied, it was initially found that marijuana was associated with RELATIVELY as many accidents as alcohol. In other words, the number of accident victims intoxicated on marijuana relative to the number of marijuana users in society gave a ratio similar to that for accident victims intoxicated on alcohol relative to the total number of alcohol users. However, a closer examination of the victims revealed that around 85% of the people intoxicated on marijuana WERE ALSO INTOXICATED ON ALCOHOL. For people only intoxicated on marijuana, the rate was much lower than for alcohol alone. This finding has been supported by other research using completely different methods. For example, an economic analysis of the effects of decriminalization on marijuana usage found that states that had reduced penalties for marijuana possession experienced a rise in marijuana use and a decline in alcohol use with the result that fatal highway accidents decreased. This would suggest that, far from causing "carnage", legal marijuana might actually save lives.

7. Marijuana "flattens" human brainwaves

This is an out-and-out lie perpetrated by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America. A few years ago, they ran a TV ad that purported to show, first, a normal human brainwave, and second, a flat brainwave from a 14-year-old "on marijuana". When researchers called up the TV networks to complain about this commercial, the Partnership had to pull it from the air. It seems that the Partnership faked the flat "marijuana brainwave". In reality, marijuana has the effect of slightly INCREASING alpha wave activity. Alpha waves are associated with meditative and relaxed states which are, in turn, often associated with human creativity.

8. Marijuana is more potent today than in the past

This myth is the result of bad data. The researchers who made the claim of increased potency used as their baseline the THC content of marijuana seized by police in the early 1970s. Poor storage of this marijuana in un-air conditioned evidence rooms caused it to deteriorate and decline in potency before any chemical assay was performed. Contemporaneous, independent assays of unseized "street" marijuana from the early 1970s showed a potency equivalent to that of modern "street" marijuana. Actually, the most potent form of this drug that was generally available was sold legally in the 1920s and 1930s by the pharmaceutical company Smith-Klein under the name, "American Cannabis".

9. Marijuana impairs short-term memory

This is true but misleading. Any impairment of short-term memory disappears when one is no longer under the influence of marijuana. Often, the short-term memory effect is paired with a reference to Dr. Heath's poor rhesus monkeys to imply that the condition is permanent.

10. Marijuana lingers in the body like DDT

This is also true but misleading. Cannabinoids are fat soluble as are innumerable nutrients and, yes, some poisons like DDT. For example, the essential nutrient, Vitamin A, is fat soluble but one never hears people who favor marijuana prohibition making this comparison.

11. There are over a thousand chemicals in marijuana smoke

Again, true but misleading. The 31 August 1990 issue of the magazine Science notes that of the over 800 volatile chemicals present in roasted COFFEE, only 21 have actually been tested on animals and 16 of these cause cancer in rodents. Yet, coffee remains legal and is generally considered fairly safe.

12. No one has ever died of a marijuana overdose

This is true. It was put in to see if you are paying attention. Animal tests have revealed that extremely high doses of cannabinoids are needed to have lethal effect. This has led scientists to conclude that the ratio of the amount of cannabinoids necessary to get a person intoxicated (i.e., stoned) relative to the amount necessary to kill them is 1 to 40,000. In other words, to overdose, you would have to consume 40,000 times as much marijuana as you needed to get stoned. In contrast, the ratio for alcohol varies between 1 to 4 and 1 to 10. It is easy to see how upwards of 5000 people die from alcohol overdoses every year and no one EVER dies of marijuana overdoses.

Oh yes, and one more thing, antioxidants such as those found in green tea, fruits, veggies, etc destroy carcinogens (aka cancer causing agents) so if you do smoke, eat these to greatly reduce the carcinogen's harmful effects. If marijuana was legal, we could have drinks such as tea and eliminate the carcinogenic effects and than the "destroying your lungs" battle would be over!

Oh, sorry and as far as experience goes. I am an avid pot smoker (about once a day) I always wait until I'm done with my day to smoke, but compared to alcohol, smoking has done wonders. I do believe smoking should be used to relax but honestly when I'm high I love distance activities outside because everything is just so much nicer and it's a lot easier to focus on the world around you instead of how hard the running is. And smoking has never decreased my motivation. In fact, it has improved. When I'm high, I really enjoy reflecting on my workout, reading quotes to get motivated, just taking time to relax and relieve stress, it also helps me to sleep better, and eat more (as long as it's the right food at the right time, this is a huge part of working out). Also alcohol dehydrates the body severely and that can be fatal to your training goals. And stress relief, rest, hydration, and rest are all major parts of fitness.

If you're smoking dope every night, you've already made it a habit. And that's pretty stupid. The reason you don't think it has any effect on your workouts is because your brain chemistry changes when you smoke dope. THC is a neurotoxin. Didn't you know that?

Sorry buddy, but you got that very very very..... wrong. Your body actually produces its own endogenous THC! In fact, the specific neuro-receptor for THC is among the most abundent of all the neuro-receptors. It is found on every polar nerve cell in nearly every (if not all) animals. It associated with neuron (nerve cell) death. When you use cannibus, the increased THC levels actually protect the brain and promote neurogenesis (produces more brain cells). This is typical of any seratonen base anti-depressant (which is one of many things cannibus is). For example, let's say Joe Blow cut loose one night and did a lot of binge drinking. There is actually good scientific research that shows if Mr. Blow were to smoke maybe a gram or so of cannibus before he went to bed THE INCREASED THC LEVELS IN HIS BODY WILL HELP PROTECT HIS BRAIN FROM DAMAGE FROM THE ALCOHOL HE INGESTED THE NIGHT BEFORE.

Main point: THC is a neurotransmitter, not a neurotoxin! My word, no wonder these out right lies (propoganda) have circulated so long. Educate yourself people, the best way is good peer reviewed academic research. Government research on the topic has mostly proven to be bias since the 1930s. I pray that will change.

One more thing, I appologize if I came off as arrogant. I just know that people come to these blogs looking for facts and they sometimes find perpetuated remedies and myths (from old grandpapie or someone) that have no place in our scientific society.

If you want to read more on the topic or if you do not beleive me check out this link:

Remember as a rule of thumb, the older marijuna studies are very bias and unscientific. The newer studies are usually much better conducted. Do not relay on just one source; look at many of them, both for and against.

no title

I don't think it's fair to cast judgement on people who consume drugs, it's a personal choice, and in my opinion, personal choice is the most important freedom. Anyways, I've lost a lot of weight while smoking marijuana, and my life has generally improved, I'm socializing, getting active, and going back to school after a long absence and it's been great. So I think the question was whether or not pot will ruin any health and personal fitness goals, and the answer is that it really doesn't. I don't light up before working out, but it hasn't affected my life negatively at all. I think you're still at risk for cancer if you smoke through a bong, but as for your lungs, it doesn't really affect them, and there have been plenty of athletes who smoke pot, for one, I'll name Lamar Odom, and he's as athletic as ever. If anything you're doing you're body a favor. We all have a limited time on this earth, and I'm not afraid to die, but at the same time I want to live for as long as I want to live. You can live a long ****ty life, but if I had a choice I would want a short life that was all joy. To the guys who abstain from drugs, much respect, but I hope you're living your life to the fullest. Marijuana may put you at slightly more risk for cancer but c'mon... I drove through a Carl's Jr. and their was a sign that their food may cause cancer- basically cancer is everywhere, and if you love smoking pot, then do the thing you love, you only get to live like this once (I think..). And most of the studies where they found cancer, the subjects were also smoking cigarettes. If you ask me, smoking is better than drinking. Look up drinking and lifting, alcohol messes up protein synthesis, but does pot? Nope. If you can control your munchies, then you will consume much less pointless calories than you would drinking. I would rather smoke than drink any given day (although drinking games are fun). Do what you want man, be smart but at the same time say **** it to the haters. Don't make decisions based on fear, but on love. Not my quote but I saw it somewhere and it's awesome and true. I think if you make all your decisions based on love, you'll end up where you fit best. I think all the people against marijuana are doing it based on fear, especially the government.

Also, for any scientific study, whether it's about marijuana or not, you should take note of who funded the research. Organizations will pay for studies to be done on the terms that they bias them and produce the results that they want. It's like the way that the chocolate companies funded the studies to prove that dark chocolate is good for you.
