Mana's Diner

Deviled Eggs do sound like a good idea... I'm glad to hear you are doing well ;) Meat and eggs doesn't sound like a cheap way to eat, to me.
Out of curiosity, what are you creaming the egg yolks with? Are you allowed mayo?

Actually it's not that bad for cost. I can get 2 1/2 dozen eggs at the store for about $3 (when I don't get them free from my mom's friend who has a chicken farm, ooohhh the best eggs ever!!!) and that'll last me about a week since I usually go through an average of about 6/day (although I only eat that many when I devil them, because they're so darn tasty, otherwise it'd only be four). I could actually get, I think it's, 5 dozen for $5, but I'm not ready to make that commitment yet. :rotflmao: And the meat I get on sale when it's discounted. I won't pay more than $3/lb for meat unless it's something special like ribeye.

I can usually get ground beef for less than $2/lb, chicken legs for $1.25/lb or less, chuck steaks for about $2.25/lb, if I get the whole chicken i can get them for $.89/lb or less. Last night I just picked up some country style pork ribs for $.99/lb, that I'm going to BBQ this weekend. I'm usually eating less than a lb of actual meat per day. So I average about $5/day (probably less) worth of food, and that's including my coffee and cream addiction. I think my grocery bill is actually cheaper because I'm spending all the money I would normally for the meat (actually probably less, since I'm buying more eggs than meat now), but not buying all the vegetation to go with it, which can add up.

The main difference is that I found eating any kind of vegetation/grains (carbs) with the food usually made me hungry more often and made me want to binge for days after. When I eat without that stuff in my diet I can go all day running around on just a few eggs and bacon and not be hungry at all and have no cravings. You also get to the point where you could eat the same stuff over and over and it doesn't gross you out and you don't get tired of it. The only reason there's a variety of stuff in my fridge is for my family. I could happily eat steak and eggs at every meal.

Even though I say strictly meat and eggs, with just spices and stuff. I do allow myself a little bit of mayo and some grey poupon horseradish brown mustard in my deviled eggs. I would make my own mayo, but I just don't feel like it. LOL I find that mayo doesn't seem to stall me like cheese does, so that's my reasoning for it.

Wow! I wrote a book! :eek2:

Anyways, this is the start of Day 4 and I'm back at my lowest weight as of this morning!! Yay!! So my goal is that I'm making a conscious effort to avoid anything not on my challenge over the next few days. Which'll be hard. This evening we have a company picnic, tomorrow we're going to the movies and running around all day and Sunday we're going to my parents for an old-fashioned weenie roast, which won't be that bad since my dad only likes the really good all-beef hot dogs (but  the sodium).

I'm sooo not hungry this morning. At about 9pm last night, I started getting hungry so I finished off the last couple of deviled eggs. That's waaaay later then I normally eat and I'm definitely not wanting anything this morning. I'll bring some extra lunch in case I get hungrier later.

Today's menu is crockpot spicy chicken legs. I've had them going since last night, so they're just falling off the bones now. mmmmmm

This is becoming a pattern. So, I woke up yesterday morning with no appetite. I didn't end up eating until 11am. I had two of my small chicken legs. And was completely full. At about 2-3pm I decided to eat the other two, because I didn't want to go to the bbq hungry. By 5pm I was still pretty full, but had a frankenburger (it was chewy, ewwwww) finished up work by 7:30 and had two hour shopping-a-thon because I needed new pants. Went down a size!!! Yay!! I'm now a comfortable size 18. So around 10pm I started to get hungry, so I ate some of the leftover chicken meat that I had shredded from the crockpot chicken legs. Not much though, maybe a couple - three oz.

Anyways, woke up this morning again with no appetite. Going to have my morning jo and cream and think about going for a quick bike ride.

Day 5

Alrighty then.

I've finally got my energy back. Today will start Day 5 of no carb. I've been up since 6am and the rest of my family is still  here at 8am.

My sleep is finally back to normal and I'm sleeping really hard again which is nice. Had my nice cuppa jo w/cream went for a 3 mile bike ride. And boy, did that feel good. I always forget how good it feels to go bike riding. It was a little chilly still out there, next time I'm going to have to wear something more than a little tank top and shorts. I had to leave my rings at home since they're getting too big and I'm afraid the plastic sizer thingie will fall off when I'm gripping the handlebars.

I know I need to start doing the workouts on a more regular basis, instead of just weekends. If I can stay on plan over the weekend, then I'm going to make another goal to start working out every morning since I'm getting more energy.

   What am I talking about???!!!??
"If I stay on plan" !!!! That's just a cop out. I will stay on plan. UGH!! You'd think I'd know better by now. And why should I wait to make a goal to work out!!! Since I will stay on plan this weekend, I will start working out/bike riding every morning!!! Starting today!

Nice! It's good to see your attitude is still so positive! :D
Hey, I wanted to mention about Hard shell tacos; they are very low in carbs, if you don't add any in. The crunchy corn shells are very low in starch (usually under 10 grams) and it might be a good way for you to get some of that Mexican cuisine when you really want it.
I seem to recall corn being a problem food for you, but it's got to be better than the soft tortillas (usually a lot more carbs, even in the small ones, even in the small corn tortillas), but remember to check and see if they are soft ones fried crisp, or if they are real crunchy taco shells; it does make a difference.

I love corn tortillas. Unfortunately whenever I eat anything with corn in it, it seems to make my joints ache (especially HFCS) and I get really tired. My allergist said it sounds like some kind of inflammatory response and he said to avoid it altogether. Mexican food is the bane of my existence.:rotflmao:

Day 6

Yay!! The weekend's over!! I stayed on plan! :D
I've got a lot of bbq'd country style pork ribs in the fridge and about a half dozen chicken breasts and a new 18 ct carton of eggs, so I'm set for the rest of the week.

Oh, yeah, today I had an egg for breakfast, over easy. Lunch was 11 chicken wings, 1/2 garlic parmesan (yes, I know that's a cheese, but I'm counting it as a spice, LOL) and 1/2 caribbean jerk. And I didn't end up eating dinner until about 8:30 tonight and it was just a few forkfuls of tuna salad, just tuna and mayo and some spices. And now I'm off to bed.

Hey you - I love my slow cooker but i gotta find more low cal reciepes for it - I love steak in it and my pork chops and roast - oh yum...

Im glad to hear you are sleeping better and your weekend went by with no cheats...

Did I understand right - that you arent eating carbs ???

Ive been meaning to drop in and say hi so I finally did - I will be back agian chicky!!!

Really - :eek2:WOW:eek2: So how does that work - carbs are in everything ? How is your body reacting to that and is it helping you loose ???

:rotflmao: yep, just about everything. I mainly do meat and eggs. I'll have a bit (maybe a tbsp, if that) of heavy cream in my coffee, otherwise water for beverages or tea on occasion.

I had actually started with no wheat/corn because it was giving me problems (digestive and skin), then was thinking since I was still having some problems that I should do an elimination diet, but nothing seemed to help. Oh, and my weight loss stalled at 220 and wouldn't budge, even with the daily cardio/weight training sessions. So I figured if the low-fat diet wasn't working, then there must be something else that would.

So I started looking around and after much research decided on Atkins induction for a trial. OMG, after the first couple of days it was awesome! I had so much energy and all my bloat was gone and my joints stopped hurting. So then I started wondering how long I could stay on induction, and that lead to the whole are veggies really necessary? And I read all about that and here I am.

Here's my losses:
Low-carb - From 4/3/07 - 4/9/07 - I went from 228.5 to 226.0 a loss of 2.5 lbs
No-carb - From 4/9/07 - 4/14/07 - I went from 226 to 218.5 a loss of 7.5 lbs

Since then I've been sabotaging myself on the weekends and eating obscene amounts of terrible things and would go up a few lbs and then lose it during the week when I was good. Since I started my 2 week only meat and egg challenge last Tuesday, I started at 223 and today I'm down to 217.

It's working when I don't sabotage myself, which is true of any diet. :rotflmao:

The benefit for me is that I feel fantastic on this diet, so much energy and I sleep really well. I'm full all the time and never get any cravings for naughty things. My only problems are when I go to restaurants, which I consider such a treat to do, so then I want to eat all the yummy sounding things on the menu. It's more of a mindset thing. The stuff on the menu just sounds so good and looks so pretty, that it's kind of like being bombarded with a commercial that you can't get away from.

Hey, sorry I've been away a bit, but I'm back on the straight and narrow again. Do you eat carbs on the weekend? How are you sabotaging yourself?

From mid-April to mid-May every weekend I was eating disgusting amounts of carbs on the weekend, just because we kept going out to eat at restaurants. That's how I was sabotaging myself. But I was good this weekend and avoided all the bad stuff when we went out, so I'm still losing.

Day 7

Went for a short bike ride this morning with my daughter.
Today was a good food day. Once again I have very little appetite.
Breakfast was a couple of eggs over easy with some cracked pepper on it. Lunch was about 7.5 oz of chicken breast with some lemon pepper seasoning and diced with some mayo around noon. Then I had one egg over easy at about 5:30pm Went for a bike ride with my daughter again at a quarter to 8, rode about 2 miles. Came home and had another egg over easy and I'm good for the night. Last couple of days I've only been averaging about 1000 cals. But I still have lots of energy. It's too bad it got dark otherwise I probably would have ridden some more.

I'm always excited when I hear how happy and full of energy you are! :D
Keep posting, it's great to see and helps remind me why I am working so hard to do what I am doing. We might have to use different methods, but it's good to see that there is more than one good way to eat.

My worst foods are kind of funny: Veggies, potatoes, other "healthy" stuff. I wish I could just eat meat and eggs, but it's bad for me to try that. How does cheese count as a carb? I didn't understand that with your garlic parm comment above (the chicken wings).

Well, potatoes doesn't surprise me as being one of your worst foods, it is pretty starchy, and some other ones are just as bad. Carbs are carbs, you know. They all break down the same way in your body(albeit some slower than others due to fiber) and turn into the same thing, glucose. Doesn't matter if it's sugar or bread or potatoes or green beans. And if glucose isn't used by the body then it's converted into body fat. (btw, we don't need that much glucose the body can run on mainly ketones and excess protein can be converted to glucose for the bodily functions that do need glucose, so yeah, there isn't any need for carbs in reality) That's why this is working for me. I don't feel any cravings because I'm keeping my carbs low enough (for me) to not cause any. For some people, staying at 100 g of carbs does it for them, others 30. It's a personal thing.

I've found that adding anything over 10 carbs (not including eggs) causes cravings. The cravings cause binges, and the binges, obviously, sabotage my diet. Any cheese has carbs, although most of them state zero carbs, it's actually less than one per serving. So say you have parmesan cheese which is "less than 1 carb per 2 tbsp". So just guessing, it's probably .5 grams or so, if you go crazy with it (which I totally can, because I love the stuff) and have a big meal and use 1/2 a cup of it on your food, you're actually getting 8 tbsp which is 2 carbs, yeah not much, but pair that with a side veggie and I'm already over what I can handle for the day. And by the end of the meal I'm daydreaming that "one bite" (yeah, right) of dessert isn't going to hurt anything, and then it's a downward spiral. So instead of trying to get my "10" or so carbs a day and wasting my time trying to count them up, I just avoid them all together, because I don't think it contributes all that much to my meals.

I wish I could just eat meat and eggs, but it's bad for me to try that.
Why? Not that I'm trying to get you to try it. To each their own. But what happens when you do it?

Well, no weight change yet, but I seem to be melting. The new slacks I bought this weekend were a size smaller than normal and snug (18's btw, if anyone was curious), but today are loose at the waist. We'll see how they are after a wash. Not hungry at the moment after my morning cuppa jo. I'm probably going to wait to eat. Today is 11 oz diced lemon pepper chicken breast with some caesar dressing. I figure I'd bring extra since I havent' eaten breakfast.
