Mana's Diner

dinner:
Vegetarian Black Bean Soup
Cals: 438

Total for the day: 1288
I'm counting all of my calories even though I didn't finish all of my lunch and probably only had two tbsp of the peanut butter. And the cheese for the eggs was more like a sprinkle enough to get the eggs to stick to the tortillas.

So I ended up not eating 2 servings of my soup because that would have just been way too much food. So I crunched up some corn tortilla chips over it with a small sprinkling of shredded cheese.

Vegetarian Black Bean Soup , 1 serving
Tostitos, scoops, tortilla chips, 1 oz
Kraft 2% Shredded Cheddar Cheese, 0.1 cup
Cals: 391
Current total for the day: 1241

However, I did make some GF brownies for 180 cals per serving, which I will be having a bit later. This will bring me up to 1421 calories for the day.

It looks like you are having a good time making sure you get to eat good stuff! Have you gotten into that gluten free bread yet? I don't see it mentioned anywhere, but I didn't read back to the other pages.

I've tried one bite of a bread a friend of mine made, which was awful. (she said so too) And I just bought a loaf of rice bread which I will be trying tomorrow. I will probably be making attempts to make my own in the future, but I just don't have the time right now.

Mmmm... brownies. 180 cal each is not bad at all. Are you using Splenda in them instead of sugar? A blend of Splenda and sugar, maybe?

I hope all is going well, otherwise :D It's great that you are seeing losses and still eating relatively normal foods, too! ;)

No artificial sweeteners for me, I'm allergic to them too.
So I think I might have more than one food allergy besides the wheat/gluten thing. So if my menu for the next few weeks are boring I apologize. I just had the worst reaction over lunch. Which was more of the black bean soup with the tortillas and cheese with yogurt for desert. I'm thinking corn is causing the tired feeling and the dairy is causing my sinus issues. ugh!

Are you going to cut them out of your diet, as well?

removing certain categories of food from your food plan isn't that rough; but it kind of builds up a very slow pressure when it is a favorite. I had to cut all starches out of my diet for a long time, and even now I can't eat a LOT of them or else I get swollen kidneys and feel sick, so I spent a few years literally avoiding starchy foods, if I had 10 grams of starch in a meal it would make my kidneys swell up and I'd get "drunk" from it. I wasn't literally drunk, but I had all the unpleasant effects of it, with none of the fun.

It's not hard to avoid it too much, but it's not easy, either. Especially rice and potatoes, at least for me. ;)

Well, I've got a dr's appt set up for the 26th to get tested for food allergies, so until then my diet is going to consist of chicken, hamburger, every veggie under the sun, beans, rice and fruit. That should be plenty of variety.

Qjay, ugh, limited starches? That's awful, I don't know if I could survive if I had to limit my rice and potato intake.

I think I'm going to cry. I think I also have a reaction to corn. I've had stuff with corn in it the last few days, not realizing it and my ankle is breaking out again and I've been feeling lethargic. And when I went through my old journal I was reading the first few weeks when I actually was writing down how I was feeling during the day after eating and every time I had anything with wheat/gluten & corn in it I felt dizzy and tired too.
And I can't even eat my sorrows away. Because EVERYTHING has wheat/gluten/corn in it!!!!!!!!!!!! Who wants to cry into their bag of baby carrots??!?

a guy i used to work with - has a child - who's now 4 - the first few years of this kids life were determning everything that this child was allergic to - wheat, soy, tree nuts, gluten plus a variety of other things -the mom has turned into a very creative cook - but my heart goes out to the parents at how frustrating iti s trying to feed a family when this kid has so many allergies...

i wish you luck at getting to the bottom of all those reactions.. and that yu find the right cookbooks to give you the foods that you want

Pshaw! You've still got rice and potatoes :D

Take a look at other non-glutinous products, see what you can find and try them as you go. It really wasn't too bad, once I got the hang of going starch free. 10 grams of starches isn't very much, but you learn to use it wisely; I'm sure your threshold is higher than that.

You might want to also consider something like Benadryl if it is an actual allergy, it might keep you from breaking out.

I'd let you cry in my bag of carrots too Mana, but I'm kinda hungry ;)

Seriously, I hope you find what it is that's effecting you!

Best of luck figuring out what's going wrong, I know this must be really frustrating for you. Just be patient, I'm sure the doctor will be able to help!

you can try with this website for gluten/wheat/corn free recipes :)
and food allergies arent so bad - i have dairy intolerance and i thought that it would be horrendous but it has actually helped me with my journey here - soya products are so much better for me :D

Thanks all.
So I cheated this weekend on the diet and my ankle paid the price. I'm going to see how many days I can go without cheating. So no wheat/gluten, corn, eggs, dairy or nuts. Oh, and I'm down to 225.5.
