Man, I would love to lose some weight!!

Hello all!!

In the past year and a-half (really, since I met my boyfriend!!) I have gained 30 pounds!! From 2005-2006 I lived in Japan and the lifestyle there is very conducive to weight management, so I stayed around 150 pounds (which is light for me, I am 5'8" and very athletic build, so it was like size 4-6). When I returned to America and began driving a car again, I went up to 160 within about 6 months. Then I met my boyfriend, began eating junk food and climbed to 175. I moved back to Japan for 6 months and lost a bit of weight, but then moved to the midwest, began grad school and I have topped out at about 177-180 pounds!! I am now a size 12!

I work out almost every day and love activity. Honestly, I don't think I look that fat, but I do feel a bit chunkier than before. I guess it mostly just bothers me that I am no longer as small as I was and cannot find clothes as easily. Another product of the weight gain is that my boobs have gone from a size 34-D to a 38-D and I hate them!! They make everything look matronly on me and physically hurt when I run or do fast-paced physical activity. UGH!!

The main problem that I have is with food, not exercise. I just love to eat. Also, I was raised vegetarian (no meat, no fish, nothing but veggies and dairy) and will always remain vegetarian. This makes going on a low carb diet difficult for me, because, as a busy student, it is hard to go somewhere that has substantial vegetarian food that does not involve bread.

I really don't know what to do. I am at my wits end. I constantly work out, I try to eat healthily (I eliminated chips and french fries from my diet, which used to be a staple) but it seems I still sometimes eat poorly (pizza at least twice a week, salads with fatty dressings).

does anyone have any dieting advice for me, regarding what I should do to take the first step into really dieting?? I guess now I am only "quasi" dieting. I want to lose about 25-30 lbs!!

Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you!!

welcome aboard! Why don't you write down everything you eat for a few days...calories too and see if you can spot any more trouble areas that you can eliminate or improve upon...ex. diet pop or water instead of reg. pop.

hey i looooove pizza too. But i found it really hard to give it up. So i found this website called hungry girl, and i love it. It makes food you already eat but just way healthier.

But instead of pepperoni, you could put lots of veggies on it. This is a great website and im so happy i found it!! Good luck on your weight lost.

Hey there

Wow we are very similiar stats, i am 5'8, sitting at about 163lbs currently and my goal is 150lbs ... I have already lost a fair bit of weight was 220lbs at my heaviest, but am finding it hard to lose the final bit.

For me the thing that worked the most in kick starting my weight loss was setting a menu in advance and determining to stick to it, which i pretty much did religiously, within that i allowed for the things i craved, mine was choc, but made it a treat once a week and stuck to the weight watchers brand of choc icecream .. other big factor for me was exercise, i have fallen in love with billy blanks boot camp work outs on dvds, they have made phenomonal difference to my body, and also a bit of pilates ... i have found the more i have exercised, the more i have desired to match that healthy lifestyle in the things i eat ...

anyways thats my little speel, all the best with your journey

Hi!

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Korrie about jotting down what you are eating for a few days. Count up the cals and that will give u a great idea of where you can improve.

Good luck hun.

I love pizza too, what I've done is limited it to twice a month. So far so good.

egg yolks

Can anyone tell me why egg yolks are a nono in a high protien diet...or is it OK to include them when needing to lose weight?

Welcome to the weight-loss forums :)

You just need to suppress your appetite.

There are many pills to do that. I am using one and very effective but i think i cant write here on forum.

Anyway try to find a natural one :)

Wow, awesome! So, Billy's Bootcamp really works? I always see it at the store and am tempted, but I have never bought it. Which one do you like? And about pilates? Thanks!!

hi, i also agree with the food journal thing. you would never actually realise the amount of food u take in till u write it down, trust me. always bear in mind that to loose weight you need to burn more than u eat. so try to eat less, and eat foods that are less in carbs. also try to exercise daily, so you'd be sure u are burning the fat. more to come. trimandtrendy

I'm a vegetarian too, vegan much of the time, but I concede that many vegan sources of protein are high in calories, like nuts and hemp hearts, so for health reasons I am including salmon, which I sort of like, and the occasional can of tuna, and also eggs.

I agree that you should post your food here in your diary and everytime you exercise come back and tell us about it. I hope you find this forum helps you stick with your goals.

Hope you're having good days. We all have to find what works for us and its a bit of a learning curve, but it gets easier. I know my ticker doesn't look like I have much experience but I do have some...Welcome.

I just started the TaeBo Amped workouts last week. Those will get you going! I bet the Bootcamp ones will too. I like them because they tie in with the martial art classes I've been taking. Belly dance is a great workout too if you are looking to tone up the core.

Post pictures of your boobs so we can see how bad it is, and offer advice.

A good source of vegan, no fat, protein is mong (mung) dal.
"Dal" is a type of thick soup.

Get split-mung dal (beans) and boil them in water until they make a think soup (45 minutes or so).
You can spice with salt, pepper, curry spices ... what ever.

You CAN add a little butter to the mixture if you want too.
