first off, congrats on the weight loss. As for core exercises and upperbody I'd check out menshealth.com and do a search. I'm almost where your at as well and will be doing some research on my own soon. Other sites that I've gone to for tips has been askmen.com, they have a fitness category that might help as well.

40 down, 20 to go..

Just wanted to report in, and hopefully encourage others. Weighing myself the other day, I found that I have lost 40 pounds so far, since August 1. My goal is to lose another 20, and get down to 160 pounds.

So.. stay encouraged men. If I can do it, nearly anyone can. I have willpower, except when it comes to food. I have been keeping it between 1200 and 1400 calories a day... spreading it out with 5 little meals a day. Lots of water.

This is the first time in attempting to lose weight, that I tried the small meals throughout the day. Before, I would eat just 2 or 3 meals a day, equaling the same amount of total calories. I am not starting to believe that the 5 small meals is a better way to go. Eating about 300 calories at a time, and waiting 3 hours to eat again. I think that might be my 'secret'.

I'd be interested in learning any of other guy's 'secrets'.. what they are doing that they feel might be one of the keys.

Stay encouraged guys. We have to do it for those who need us healthy.

Respectfully,
Steve

And It Begins...

Hello gentlemen, and may I say it's an honor to place my first post in these forums.

I've been wanting to start a weight-loss run for a couple of months now but can't find someone around me to report to, and keep me accountable. My brother originally comitted to start going to the gym with me but that died quickly as he seems to be happy with his look and hates cardio (go figure).

Of course I hate cardio too, but I well remember the days (about two years ago) of being addicted to my 2-3mile run each morning. My intention is to renew that, and combine it with a portions controlled diet plan that is high in protein and fairly low in carbohydrates (chicken, fish, veggies). It starts today, and I'm looking forward to getting to know a few of you and reporting back on my successes (hopefully not too many failures).

Cheers,

Palmz

PS - Can someone tell me how to get one of those blue meters that show your current/target/progress weights?

Hi, How are all the guys doing. I am really having a hard time staying on track. I want to lose weight really bad. But it seems like I want food more.

its hard around the holiday season. Im taking phentermine to help suppress my appetite. It works good and im losing weight the unhealthy way. Im using is as a jump start so i can be confident in the gym. motivation is hard around the holidays. But theres only 4 months or so til spring break. I wanna be able to take my shirt off without being embarassed. so well see. troutman i see you run like a mad man. Congrats on the 4-5 miles and the times you complete them at. B4 i gained all my weight i could do 4-5 on a consistan basis. I just started running again and could only do 2 tops. I broke it to 3 this week. but my calves are killing me.

briin79, Your right taking pills is not good. Shame on you. But being over weight is not healthy either. So you take the pills for a little while. Big deal if it helps you get where you want to be. You don't have all that much weight to lose. You should be where you want to be by spring.

No offense dude, but you've been saying this type of stuff for months. There's nothing that we can say that will make you stay on track. You have to have the inner strength and mental toughness to do it for yourself. If you can't eat less, then work out more. Weight loss is simply burning more calories than you take in, nothing more. There's just no tricks that you're going to learn from others that will make your sacrifices seem effortless.

Thanks, I needed that.

Hi guys! Nice to see a male support forum! Good idea!
I'm having a few problems getting my ticker into my signature! Any ideas where I may be going wrong? I'm using one from ticker central and have tried all the variations!
Thanks!

Troutman, it looks like you have made great sucess somewhere in the past to lose the weight you already have. Stick to what works for you. I believe it is 100 percent mindset, one you get your mind set to do this it will happen. I have tried several times over the years but never really put my mind or heart into it. This time with the encouragement of y'all I'm sure I'll win.

gn6196, This will come as a shock to you. You can eat bread and lose weight.

Chip
I agree that you can eat bread and lose weight ,but,it better not be WHITE BREAD.100% whole wheat ,or stone ground//NO WHITE BREAD,TRUST ME;)

BigO,

I don't know about the white bread, I have always liked whole wheat bread. I do eat white rice & still lose weight. Maybe that is different. I'm getting into brown rice, its is tasting better all the time.
