Males Only Support Club!!!

Troutman, it is so easy to make excuses, isn't it? I am a master of coming with reasons why it will be OK to eat this or that, just this once, or twice, or thrice. But everytime I do that the payback comes when I step on the scale.

BigO, you and I are on the same path. We are looking to lose the same amount of weight and have lost about the same amount. I have done pretty much the same as you have. I have cut out snacking between meals and I only eat two meals per day. I do a lot of walking and row several times per week. I wish I could run like Troutman but I don't think my knees could handle that...

I got to hand you big guys respect - its one thing for me to lose weight - my BMI wasn't in the obese range at start, so it was relatively easy for me to get to a healthier state. I'm watching you fellows do it - keep it up, its worth it. Obesity is the real killer.

Beer - I love a drink, still do. My weakness was sitting in front of the pooter drinking cans and cans of the stuff - or worse, bottles of port. I have cut that out, but I treat myself instead to one or two glasses of red wine after a meal during the evening - not every evening, which is why its such a nice treat. Google about and you will find that theres plenty of evidence that one or two glasses of wine a day is certainly not detrimental to health, and most probably has a few positive points about it. Just don't go drinking the stuff until you start falling over! (well not too often anyway ;) ). A little bit of booze isn't harmful - its too many cans/bottles of gassy guzzly beer that cause problems - bad habits!

Having said that, about once per week I will still have 'a little more' booze - either wine at home, or out with the lads down a pub or club. If its a lifestyle change that you want, it seems to me that you have to treat yourself in some ways. I would rather keep some booze, and give up the biscuits (cookies), pastries, cakes, burgers, sausages, etc. Having said that - I do notice that when I wake up following a 'session' - I feel worse than I use to - I guess its because I usually wake up feeling ready for some exercise and living now (except for this ruddy back!)...

Howdy from texas ferret.... I agree, Those things need to be looked more as treats. I was the worlds worst about killing a bottle of wild turkey or some such in one night. Between me and friend that shows up with a bottle in hand it never took very long. Now its a glass here or there. I have found a fondness for imported beer. Its funny american beer gives me such a headache but things like fosters, guinness dosen't seem to bother me. As for wine I like a glass once in awhile with a meal. Now i know about the calories in it all so its just in moderation. But if the astros lose one more game I just might have to open the emergency bottle lol....... peace all

Lets Talk Man To Man

Come on guys we all know why were fat. We may lie to our wifes & girlfriend, friends, co-workers, ourselves on the outside. But deep down in our souls, we know how we got fat & why were fat. When a week goes by & we have not lost weight we know why. We may lie to every person that will listen.
Have you ever given everything for a week & lost weight. It has never happened to me. I use to watch my father on a diet & see what he would eat when my mom was not watching. Guess what he would gain weight or not lose any weight. He would swear up & down that he did not know how he could have gained weight.

I think we have all said things like, if I did not have that bowl of ice cream I would have lost weight this week. Get serious it was the bowl of ice cream every night.

I'm big on things like salad dressing, BBQ sauce, etc. with all the calories they have & they do have a lot. But I did not get fat because I had salad dressing. I don't remain fat because of salad dressing.

Enough of my ranting, I'm just sick & tired of all of my excuses.

Am I the only one that has these problems?

Chip

Don't hold back bro, tell us how you really feel today ;)

I don't really relate on the whole lieing thing. If I skip a workout, I'm not going to tell somebody that I actually went. I can relate on the excuses. I would always find an excuse to pound half a rack of brew, eat like horse, and sit on my ass. THAT made me fat. Maybe what you need to do is turn those excuses around. What I mean is, find an excuse NOT to eat that ice cream. Find an excuse NOT to skip the workout.

Thats good sense fat2fit - weight gain is often down to mental attitude - I was an unhealthy kid - overweight and asthmatic. I avoided physical education at school because I couldn't compete with fitter kids. Low self-esteem, a negative self image, and its easy to snack and comfort eat through the rest of your life. Problem is, over the years the pounds sneak on and on.

We often put up our own blocks - "I cant do that, because I'm asthmatic - "I can't do that, I'm too fat" - we end up as couch potatoes.

I'm now discovering physical fitness for the first time in my life - running, cycling, tai chi, swimming - I'm signing up for membership of a local gym tomorrow! I feel reborn and I'm lifting those blocks up. We can be the people that we want to be.

Hey fellas,Its like this.If your going to eat alittle extra that day,let it be something healthy.Whole wheat.Red potatoes,no butter, fruit, mainly apples and pears.Fix your sweet tooth with some cornflakes or special K with splenda.lOTS OF CHICKEN BROILED,bROWN rICE,hARD BOILED EGG WHITES.Can of tuna in water,.you get the idea.Just stay away from the .....Well you know what I mean.Lays has a chip now with half the calories an no Fat.Not bad when you need alittle something with that Healthy Choice ROASTED turkey sandwich.NO MAYO.lots of lettuce and tomatoes fat free cheese or vegeterian cheese Use a musteard instead of that Mayo.If you are hungry for a Pizza,I make my own.whole wheat shells you can find at wegmans.or local health food store I think.A nice low fat sauce, low fat cheese.lots of mushrooms green peppers, onions .NoPEPPERONI or sausage.About 80 calories a slice.Better then 280 at your local pizza shop.
So hang in there.Keep motivated.Ill see you all later.I got a flood to deal with.

well I think the easiest one for us to lie to is ourselves. "I dont eat that much its just genetics" " Im gonna be perfect on this diet and never stray off of it"

If we gained weight on a certain week It probably comes down to we ate to much and didnt burn enough off. I think self motivation is a key. People in shape can look at working out as something they like to do. we need to look at it as something we cant get out of and just have to do it. losing weight is like life, we do it one day at a time.............

As of Friday, july 7th this club will be unstickied. There are too many clubs to be stickied and we, as moderators, feel that all clubs should be brought to the top of the page in the traditional manner - posting by its "members". This not only reduces the clutter but puts all clubs on equal footing since no one club is more important than another. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.

It is not only this club but all clubs that have been stickied. There are many new clubs now which are not stickied and we cannot possibly sticky all of them. We feel it is more fair to everyone if all clubs are treated equally. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Im not sure where to post this so ill ask yall first.. Last night i had chinese food. Nothing crazy and about the only high starch thing i had was white rice. The problem is I have been starved all day. I still get full very fast but its like the food isnt just what im looking for. I almost think im addicted to sugar. In the past it was 6-10 cokes a day and such. This feels the same. Can something like rice or potatoes jump start those cravings. I have been wanting rice, potatoes, a huge ice cold glass of milk. Is this just a way of my body trying to sneak in sugar by way of carbs? anyone else had this problem?

hbl,

Milk, rice and potatoes all have sugar in them. Milk has lactose, rice and potatoes have starch (which breaks down to glucose). So yeah, this is a way to sneak some sugar in. That said, it is better to eat potatoes than to gorge on candy and soda pop. Potatoes are better than rice, because white rice is a source of refined carbs just like white bread and pasta.

Try to eat a source of protein (either meat or eggs) before you eat carbs. That way you will be more full and also will crave less carbs.

yea its odd how sugar and complex starches effect me so. Its odd, think ill do some research and see if you really can be addicted to sugar........
