My first diary entry,, nerve busting :willy_nilly:. Ok first things first I want to lose weight , mainly for my own personal health. Being an active 17 year old, it came as a shock when i discovered my B.M.I stated I was borderlining obesity. I have never been slim or 'skinny' and have never had a particular desire to be so, however being a 5'6'' female weighing in at 13 stone 3 pounds ( just under 180 pounds) I feel I need to make a change in my life. If anyone has any good tips to help me along in this somewhat daunting and difficult journey they will be most appreciated. I plan on losing around 2-3 stones. I would ideally like to be around 150 pounds initially. I think giving myself a realistic target will help me. I would like to have lost at least 1 stone by the beginning of janurary. And I hope to have shifted the weight entirely by the end of school in June. My reasons for weight loss is mainly to improve my health and secondly to make my body image better. I intend on using our family gym regularly and to go extra swimming sessions. Also to increase the number of cardio working exercises.
So here are the basics...

Start weight - 180 Pounds
Height- 5'6''
Starting- NOW.
Goal Weight- 145-150 pounds.
Intend to have lost at least a stone by janurary.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH!! I NEED ADVICE FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE ALL SAILING IN THE SAME DIRECTION :)

Before I go, thanks and the best of luck to you all in your weight loss journeys :D

Hi L

Congratulations on making a start.:hurray:

Losing a stone between now and the start of January is a tall order - not only will there be a lot of temptation in your path during that time - but generally a good rate of healthy weight loss is considered to be between one and a half and two pounds per week. You have to work pretty hard to achieve that.

It may be that you will lose a little extra at first.

It may be a little more realistic to be aiming for between half a stone and three quarters of a stone (although obviously you would be more than happy if more came off).

There is lots of good advice regarding nutrition and exercise on various stickys around the forum.

Doing exercise is a good idea. I wear a pedometer all the time and I find it very useful. They are very cheap. A lot of authorities say that we would all be healthier if we all walked 10,000 steps per day.

Many people count calories but it is important not to set your calorie level too low as it gives you less scope to reduce your calories as months go on and your body gets used to one amount of calories.

Authorities say that we should all aim to eat 5 portions of fruit or veg a day. You might find this web site useful.

A lot of people do not drink enough water. Try and drink two litres of cold water a day.

I personally find the following link both inspirational and full of good advice

Good luck with your project.

Take care
Best wishes
