Losing water?

Hey

Noob question lol

I'm pretty new to this forum and this might seem like a daft question, but whenever people first start out trying to lose weight, and they say "iv lost 6lb in the first week, but it's probably just water" what does this actually mean? If you have a calorie deficit during that week and lose weight its actually just your body getting rid of excess water instead of burning fat? This doesn't sound right lol, why would your body do that when dehydration seems to be a common for heaps of people. Sorry if im just misinterpreting this lol.

Cause in the begining, your body burns Glycogen. It is a type of carbohydrate stored in the liver and in your muscles. It's kinda like a sponge that holds three to four times it's weight in water. With the calories lowered, your body burns it and it releases the water as it is. So for about every gram of glycogen burned, you lose about a total of 4 or 5 grams.

ahh ok! Learn something new every day! Thanks! So the substantial loss that most people get at the start isn't actually fat, thats not very encouraging haha, nevertheless it won't phaze me! I take it when it starts to slow down thats when you start burning fat?

just make sure you are doing some weight training with your program. Muscle is the best fat burner you can buy (and your a women, so you won't bulk up, don't worry).
